The Academy has been here for several years now, and its all (mostly) because of a little game called Jedi Knight. Now that much i'm sure you could of guessed. It began with the Dark Forces I & II games, the second one being the first Jedi Knight. Which was indeed an awesome game. When Jedi Knight 2 was made it was the beginning of a new era for star wars gamers and somewhere along the line, a small group of gamers formed together, after meeting on a forum, and created The Jedi Academy. Eventually Jedi Knight 3: Jedi Academy was made and was implemented carefully into the already vast community. And so we come to the present day, thousands of members, 2 games on the trot at once which are both played a large amount. However, a lot of newer gamers are getting bored or irritated. JK2 was awesome, a revelation... but younger gamers or newbies to the series sometimes find it a bit clunkier than JK3. JK3 is more like a pop idol version of Jedi Outcast, with bits of tack here and there that somehow hold it together and make it playable. The Academy has a great mod made by Chosen One that makes the game oh so much more playable. This does not deter from the fact that, lets face it, we're getting a little bored of the current Jedi Knight games. Its not that we're tired of them, its just we've found all the exploits, found all the glitches, found all the secrets to the game, mastered every single possible stance and saber-type. We're all aching for that feeling we got when Jedi Academy came out and that new feel about the game and the action. So we want it again... ...This brings about a common question. Will there be a Jedi Knight 4? Jedi Knight 4? The only current problem with the answer is that Raven is keeping their mouths shut. All i've managed to dig up is a few "no comment" replies and a load of rumours that bounce around a few major gaming forums. So, we end up at that situation where people can't get answers, so they make their own up. I've read a few interviews recently and I can never find a single one that has the question "What about a Jedi Knight 4?" that is actually followed up with a straight answer, to be honest its looking dim. It is understandable, Raven can't reveal its plans for the future. So all we can do is sit and wait! Lets think about it though, what could they put into JK4 that would make it worth the effort. If they did anything to the game, it would ruin it. There isn't much you could put into the game that wouldn't make it a different game altogether, it would be as big a change as going from Dark Forces 1 to Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy. That is something i don't think we could handle. Change is good but are we ready? I havn't found many sources or evidence so you'll have to take my word or do your own research. In short, I think that there won't be a Jedi Knight 4. Its too much, they could ruin the series. What could be done is an expansion pack. If they did that, they could keep the battle system the same but also introduce a few new ideas to the game. I'm not going to pretend I know anything about game design or Raven in particular, but I get the feeling the Jedi Knight series will end at JK3. Which isn't really a bad place to end when you think about it. Alright, heres what little i've managed to dig up! I've not found anything on Lucas Arts own website. Nor anything on Ravens, I asked Orion about this and he said that Raven is not working on JK4 and if they are, then he is not aware of it. Its all down to Lucas Arts. Conclusion I doubt there will be a JK4, we can still keep our eyes peeled, but in the end will it be worth the effort? Do we really want a JK4? What will we gain from it? The best we can do now, is to continue to improve ourselves on JK3... what with Instaaaaaaagibbbbbbbb, as Monkai so rightly put it, being such a fun game mode and many more being created. I'm sure we can find loads of things to fill our appetite. The future may have a game similar to the Jedi Knight series, it could be made by a completely different developer. It might even be better than JK:JO, JK:JA. *dodges projectiles* This is something i did not think i would need to mention, but i will put it in anyway. As we all know, there is an argument floating around as to whether or not Jedi Academy is Jedi Knight 3 or just a standalone add-on for Jedi Outcast. In truth, no-one can say. Raven has, themselves, referred to it as JK3 but this could be by popular influence. In any case, my point was not related to the number. The 4 has no importance, my article was on "THE NEXT JEDI KNIGHT GAME! WILL THERE OR WONT THERE?!" Hope that clears it up.  |

I heard a romour (sic) in a gaming magazine that claimed to "reveal" the storyline of the much-anticipated "Jedi Knight 4"/"Dark Forces 6"
'Parently, it starts with Jaden having turned to the Dark side, and Luke has just rescued Kyle. You are Kyle and have just found Jaden. In a fierce duel, you're beaten pretty much shitless. Jaden uses his/her scepter to remove your Force powers, thus giving you a chance to rebuild all your powers later in the game. Your lightsaber is broken and all that corney shit. Luke somehow transfers a small portion of his powers into you so you have the basic stuff. Then you, Luke and a new apprentice (name unknown) go off on a galaxy-wide man-hunt to find and beat the living shit out of Jaden Korr. Apparently (bear in mind that this could all be made up shit) you get to play as not only Kyle, but also Luke and Jaden and possibly the new apprentice. _______________ Training began: December 2003 Left the Order: October 2008 Returned: November 2009 |

For those that are interested i think that we should get some kind of petition going for a jk4. oh yeah, even though these rumours of the series going back to Vader exist, it does not mean they have forgotten about Kyle Katarn. Quite the contrary he seems to be gaining popularity recently, he has parts in all three books of the Dark Nest trilogy by Troy Denning, in the 3rd (out tomorrow in america, 5th jan UK) he us supposed to have a larger role as well. He is also a character in the new Empire at War game out in january, there is a small bio and vid at that link (it requires a decent flashplayer i think). He also seems quite popular with fans, well in a thread about the dark nest books i read he was often asked about anyway. Yeah i have thought this as well, with the radical changes in both action/3rd person games and FPS recently in every department, the best way would seem to create an almost completely new game (like they did with JK2) which implements a lot of the cool ideas you here about nowdays, like controlled blocking, true sw stances, improved gunplay and swordplay, and all the rest. yeah i wanted controled blocking too, that would be more realistic lol and i think blocking and swingin should be different (in jk3 any swing can be attack or defensive move) but similar in difficulty to perform. so the game would be more 'single swing' based requiring precise aiming from both duelists (attacker and defender). bah wtf im writing - thats just what i want , not what others want lol _______________ playing jk3 since 30th of january (2005), member since 1st of february. There is only one thing i think is missing from JK3 and that is controlled blocking and deflecting. It would be easier to spark off locks, and would make duels more star wars like. When do you ever see a star wars character running in circles around someone and then doing an advancing scissor, then retreating. Meh, i suppose thats what makes the game what it is. We could do with scrapping it and starting a fresh with something as complex as jk3. I think LucasArts will bring back the Jedi Knight series once more, it will make them money once they finish with the episode 3 period cash ins, and would be better than a new jedi game as it already has a fanbase. ok lets say they are making jk4 for like 1 year so if they want it to be very cool they must work on it for like 2-3 more years. so why they should announce the game which will be released in 3 years! and do you know any lucas arts or raven games which will be released in 2008? i doubt that just a theory... one of theories... i had 5 mins of free time lol _______________ playing jk3 since 30th of january (2005), member since 1st of february.
