Hybrid Theory: Red\Yellow Stance | |
This class will take what you have learned in your primary stances classes and work to take them to the next level. We will then learn how to blend the two stances into an effective fighting style. Every week will be a different class, as it is impossible to cover all the subjects in one, so be sure to attend regularly. I find it very ineffective and difficult to teach more than 10 students, so be sure to enroll to reserve your place. My class will be 10 students and no more. I will accept non-enrolled students until I reach 10 on a first come/first serve basis. At the end of the class, if we have time left, we will play a game and have some fun! I expect everyone attending to be familiar with both red and yellow stances. You must be able to do all red combos, basic red aerials, yellow scissors, diagonal scissors, and have control over all these techniques. Some topics covered: Red stance aiming, red stance timing, advanced aerial technique, digs, pointing, maximizing damage, red stance theory, yellow stance timing, yellow stance theory, parry/countering, blocking, anti-exploits, two-step techniques, single vs staff/duals, hybrid fighting, and some mental conditioning. Prerequisites: A basic movement class A basic red stance class A basic yellow stance class This class is no longer in session. |

Tido!!! Dearest of all my friends ^_^ *adds convincing nods* re: this class Is it essential to have attended your previous/'basic' Hybrid Red/Yellow stance classes to enroll into this one? If anything I will remove myself... _______________ This comment was edited by St. Xarius on Nov 24 2004 08:35pm. |

class time changed , I'll see you guys there! |

*sigh* Guys as much as I want to do a weekend class, it has become apparent to me that its just not feasable . Weekends for me are never scheduled and always random - unlike the weekdays. Unfortunatly this means that I can't find a time that everyone can make (its almost impossible). So I'll be changing the class time to something I don't have to sweat so hard to make happen. Sorry . -Tido |

Today we did Part 1 of a 2 part class to yellow vs yellow! We first did a massive amount of theory, then we did some drills on advancing scissors and yellow accuracy. Next week we will continue on with the drills and work on the more advanced techniques of yellow vs yellow. If you are coming next week be sure you can do the advancing scissor well and that your accuracy is up to par. See me or any of the single saber instructors if you do not know how to achieve this. Attendance: ozzcoz Setementor Masta Gradius Kain Riswin Here is an excerpt from our theory discussion: Basic Strategy: Mix your offense and defense and avoid being predictable. The key to yellow on yellow (and dueling as a whole) is to be unpredictable, adaptable, and safe. Adaptability is crucial and is the sign of a great saberist. Alter your style according to your opponent’s style, strengths, and weaknesses. The best way to adapt isn’t through large/drastic changes, but subtle ones. The smaller the change you have to make, the less it upsets your style and the smaller the chance your opponent will detect the change. Look for things like exposed shoulders, dependence on numbers (a pattern of swings, almost everyone has this. Example: 2-1-2-3-2-1-2-3-2-1-2-3, ect), preferred attacks and defenses, and patterns in movement. Ask yourself questions like is your opponent overly offensive, easily provoked, docile/totally unaware, or plain button mashers. You then must adapt accordingly. Mentality: If you are playing to win, you are focusing on the wrong objective. You should play to survive. If you survive longer than your opponent, then winning is the result of that. This forces you to focus on something other than pure attacking; most saberists will only think about the attack rather than thinking about strategy or movement. It’s the natural instinct to do so; you see an opening and you want to jump in it. Instead, you should be mindful about what’s going on around you and ask WHY is the opening there. It is very likely it may be an artificial one. Being relaxed is very important. Many people get tense when they play and as a result they make mistakes. To relax, make yourself slow down and take some slow breaths. Hold them and release slowly. You must clear your mind of anything negative such as frustrations, anger, RL issues, ect. Close your eyes if it helps when you do this. If you can achieve a calmer mindset, you will become a much better dueler. Have faith in yourself. Develop confidence in your ability and believe you are going to win. Believing in yourself will result in you actually winning more duels. Positive thinking is very powerful. However, having an ego (thinking that you are ‘supposed’ to win) will make you less of a fighter and frustrated. You cannot be afraid to lose. Rather, embrace losing for what it really is: a valuable lesson. No matter what your skill level is at or what your reputation is, you cannot let this principal leave you. Humility is your most valuable asset here. Movement: Use your movement and fake swings to make the enemy swings first. Then you can advance to counter or move to the sides to pick between their swings. Never crouch first: the first to crouch loses the duel. If someone crouches on you, gain momentum and go into their crouch with your own swinging crouch and counter them. Or run to their sides and nick at them aiming slightly downwards – where you most likely will gain a parry as well. Never blindly run into a crouching attacker. Try to avoid taking someone head on. Instead go for the vulnerable shoulders on the sides. Main Blocking Systems: (1) Auto Blocking: very limited, it is the most basic form of blocking (2) Manual Blocking/Parry: when a swing is met with an equal or more powerful swing. Doing this will either block or knock back the opponents saber. The use of momentum is a key factor in this. Always strive to meet your opponents swing with the middle of your swing as it has the highest momentum, damage, and blocking ability. We’ll cover more in the next class! See ya then! |

My second class had even more attendance than the first! We went a little scatterbrained this time and jumped all over the place. First we started with some theory on avoiding swings and placing attacks. We then did the counter-theory to that style of defense. For drills we started by learning pointing. Then we went into the start of the 2-step technique on guides. After the class we decided to solve a puzzle for our game. Congrats to all those who solved it and thanks for coming! See you next week for a yellow vs yellow class! Attendance: Mace Windu 3th Setementor Masta Moridin Nati ozzcoz Xanatos Kaz Angel D'kana Claymore and Toby observed us. |
