R2's Beginners Dual Saber Class
Purpose: Teach the Basics of Dual Sabers to anyone at any level in a clear, fun manner.

Class Overview: Each topic for that week will be discussed thoroughly, demonstrated by the Instructors, and practiced by the students.

Week 1: Brief Theoretical Introduction to Duals & Basic Animation Swings
As a beginner class, we will first briefly discuss the theory behind Dual Sabers. After this discussion, we will move onto covering the Basic Animation Swings of a Dual Saberist with Attack being pressed once and held down in all 8 directions.

Week 2: Basic Combos & Specials
Having been familiarized with the Basic Animation Swings, students will now learn two Basic Dual Saber Combos: The Scissors and Buzzsaw. Instructors will present variations of these combos on the ground and in the air. In addition, the Specials a.k.a. “Do Nots” for Dual Sabers will be discussed.

Week 3: Rollstabs, Lunges, & Countering
To add some flavor to their styles, students will learn the Arts of Rollstabbing and Lunging. Exercises will focus on aim and speed. Also, Instructors shall present Elementary Dual Saber Counters against all saber types and stances. If there is time to spare, we will review what we have covered so far in this class.

#################
*note*Due to this class being finished after this first run through, we'll be skipping the final this go around. When things start back up in the Fall, you'll see the 4th week in implementation.*end note*
#################

Week 4: Review & Final
In preparation for the Final, students will quickly review the material covered in previous weeks. Finally, students will have the chance to demonstrate what they have learned to the Instructors and receive constructive criticism. By passing this Final, a student is qualified to take an advanced Dual Sabers class when it is available.
Note: This class session will probably take more than the allotted 1 hour.

This class is no longer in session.

Roster for Week 3 5/27/06:
Malak
Damien

Covered: Lunges & Rollstabs

Rollstabs Key Points Covered:
1) It can be done right after the role or after a small delay, almost as if the person were standing up. It can be used to deceive the opponent in thinking you are going to move, and then you still do the rollstab.

2) A Dual User's rollstab is a bit more advantageous, due to the fact that the other saber punches out the back and is active. It can stab someone behind you as well as the rollstab in front of you.

3) A Rollstab can one-hit-kill. If aimed at the midsection and timed right, you'll punch a hole right through your opponent and take an opponent down to 0 (We experimented with 100/25 opponents).

Lunges Key Points Covered:
1) You can lunge with 2 sabers instead of 1. By executing a lunge and turning on the saber RIGHT after the lunge executes, 2 sabers will come out to attack with the lunge.

2) Dual users can go from 2 sabers out to a lunge with timed practice. In order to execute this, you need to be moving around and looking like your going to be using your Dualies. You'll need to turn off your 1 saber, go into crouch, and hit up+attack. It's ok to practice this slowly, but you want to get to the point where it's one continuous fluid movement.

That covers Rollstabs and Lunges. We also did some duels using the Rollstabs and Lunges and that wrapped things up.

I want to thank R2 and the students for making this class a success this past month or so. I look forward to this coming back and being a regular scheduled program. Also, if you ever want to learn Duals, seek R2 or myself out (R2 first, me if he can't seem to be contacted), and we'll go over this stuff with you. Until then, take care and be safe!

Hey guys, Janus posted what will be going on for this class in the month of May. As you noticed, the class will stop being held this summer after the 27th because I will have a job  I was just informed about 3 or so days ago that I did indeed have a job and received my work/shift schedule yesterday. I'll be working every other Saturday, so there wouldn't be any continuity to the course. I was planning on completing a full 4 week course, but the job gets the priority here. In addition, you maybe wondering why Janus will be covering the last session of this class. I will be away at my cousin's wedding. Due to this, I have changed the material we will cover in weeks 2 and 3.

Week 2 will now cover Combos and Counters. Katas if time permits. I will teach this class.

Week 3 will cover the Lunge and Rollstab, with some review of previous material. Janus will teach this session.

Thanks for those that have attended and will attend these last 2 sessions of the class. The class will return in Fall (August). In the mean time, if you can't wait to learn dual sabers, you can contact me for some dual saber training. ;)

As Janus mentioned, RL has been taking up most of my weekend time. Looking at what is ahead the next 2 weeks in this class, we felt that it would be best to start back with Week 1 on May 13th, when I can finally return to teaching. For those that have attended the classes so far, I'm very proud to see your growing interesting with duals. If you feel like reviewing what we've covered before, then drop by for the Week 1 and Week 2 sessions again. If not, I hope you know the material pretty well ;)

We're hoping to see some older and newer faces on May 13th! Until then, keep on practicing!

What we covered: R2 has had some RL stuff come up so he hasn't been able to attend the past week nor this week. I know the material enough to cover in his stead and we went over Sweeps and Buzzsaw. We also covered the "Don'ts" of a Dualist.

Sweeps - Using the strafe keys to move left and right, hold attack and bounce back and forth with the Dual sabers. You can turn this into advanced sweeps by mixing crouch in there as well to hit high and low as you go back and forth.

Buzzsaw - Maximized Buzzsaw is done by doing a forward directional, for example UpRight or UpLeft and follow it up with it's respective opposite. For example, if you go UpRight, bounce DownLeft. The Dualist will do a two saber swing forward and the direction you press. By keeping attack held and moving to the opposite, the Dual user will uppercut and execute the buzzsaw back. Out of all the buzzsaws possible in the saber stances, a Dual User more then likely causes the most damage.

"Don'ts" - Deemed the Dual Taboos, there are a couple and aren't to be used. They more then likely cause the Dual user to become exposed to attacks, can be considered "cheese"-like in use, and overall don't earn you respect when used in a duel. For the sake of education, we point them out here.

Barrier - Left click + Right click (clicking Left just before Right makes you do it every time). The Dual user uses the Force to spin the Dual sabers around in a barrier around you. By holding still, you expose yourself to a Rollstab or a Blue Lunge. If you rotate the mouse, you make the barrier impenetrable, but using the move is highly discouraged.

Crouch+Forward+Attack = Standing still, the user swings one right after another a saber in each hand to create a barrier only directly in front of you. Whereas the previous move covered your entire body, this just covers the front. Again, please don't use, they only get you set up to be killed.

Up+Jump+Attack will have the Dual user do a special move of sorts making you flip through the air on your side and make the dual sabers do damage all around you. Not very controllable, the move only wastes time.

That's it for now, next week, Rollstabs, Lunges, and Counters oh my!

Yea, this class is intended for those with little or no experience with duals. After the first one or two batches of finals, we'll look into an advanced course.

Good to hear.
