I must say this to all the yankees and aussies out there: There is no such thing as soccer, there is only football. There's american football, there's australian football and then there's european football. Why do you have the need to call european football soccer? The thing America and Australia calls soccer the rest of the world calls football (not european football, just football), and do you know why? Because it's the single biggest sport on this planet. There for stop calling it soccer and start calling it football.

Sorry about that Jacen, I have what would be considered by most to be a very sarcastic and dry sense of humor so even when I say things I may not make it obvious that its a joke.
Sniya honestly, I don't care that we are crap at soccer compared to the rest of the world. Its really low on my list of priorities as to how good we are at soccer. I was only using women's soccer as an example. In the US it was getting a lot of publicity when they were doing well in the world cup, and the interest just seemed to completely dissipate. And we may suck at soccer but the american soccer league puts american soccer players against eachother so they all suck and are playing each other. Its not a big enough draw really. Its reasonably popular but not enough for us to conform to the rest of the world and call it the same thing as our own sport. I also didn't say we were bad at hockey. I was pointing out that we're not necessarily the best at it in all circumstances. To say we don't like a sport because we aren't the best is as laughable as saying that colleges in the US are going to dissolve their football programs to expand on soccer funding. _______________ When you are going through Hell, keep going. -Sir Winston Churchill. Jacen the hypocrite line was a joke, this is the crazy stuff forum after all. And I really doubt that its not because we aren't the best in the world at it. A lot of Americans like hockey and we're not always the best at that. A lot of players in the NHL are canadian or from other countries. And I really think that soccer just doesn't interest American culture overall. When the US women's team won the world cup that one year or whatever it got a lot of press. The next time they had a rematch with China I think it was there was no one interested in it. They've even tried to televise America's national Soccer league and the women's soccer league here. Not much interest in it. I've got some cousins that play soccer. We don't hate it in the US, we're just not that interested in it. It happens with our own popular sports when they try to break through in different ways. The XFL was pretty much American Football just like always but it flopped horribly. And if you think its because "well they aren't as good as the NFL" I think Tommy Maddox of the Pittsburgh Steelers will disagree with you. And granted a goal in soccer may be exciting to you and you can say touchdowns in football aren't exciting because they happen all the time. But go ask football players that have won the game off of a 70 yard pass with no time left on the clock if they think thats less exciting than a goal in soccer.
But you're pissed at why do we call soccer soccer. Well its BECAUSE WE CAN! Its our country we'll call it what we want. Only English speaking Countries call it Football anyways. It may translate into "Football" from whatever language they say it in but they still aren't saying Football. Let's just start picking on other words too. In England they call cigarrettes "fags" and elevators "lifts". Its cultural differences and dialects of the same language. American English is different from the English in the UK and the English in South Africa. Hell, in the US there are different words for the same thing depending on your area. Some places call pizza "pie" And then there's Pop. I say pop because I'm from Ohio. Other places say soda or soda pop or even tonic. That's where "gin and tonic" comes from

And btw it was the americans who stole our sport name not us(football was round before american football)You americans could you not even be bothered to make up your own sport name. Anywho here is my explanation of why football is the greatest sport on earth: half the reason is its really fun to play(but im not sporty so this doesnt count for me) it needs little equipment(a ball and some paint on a wall, marks etc for a goal) AND most importantly goals are extasy i learnt this in the recent world cup.-I dont give a damm about premiership football i cant care about any of the teams.But when ireland score I get high on the goal(metiphorically).Watching ireland scoring the last minute goal in germanys match still takes me on a trip to heaven(only team apart from brazil to score against the germans ).Equally so the agony is present when you lose but thats part of what makes it great.
one of the reasons americans dislike it is that they are not the champions at it.Its a part of american culture that americans are superhumans think of it about 80% of films from hollywood are thier to say-WERE AMERICA ARENT WE GREAT.They are always the movies heros if present.But america is getting better as the world cup showed.Note this it is the fastest growing sport among children(or was it most popular cant remember) So in 10 or 20 years you wont be able to get away from it as it will be a very popular sport [sory for spelling] _______________ The real question is not whether machines think but whether men do. lol...When I was in grade school there was a big puch to start using the metric system. It never caught on(obviously). Americans are too lazy to learn something new, even if it is easier. If it makes you feel any better, I had a metric system lunchbox and thermos. I still get made fun of by some of my old school friends. They all had Kiss lunchboxes, Star Wars, The Hulk, Batman, etc.

Do you realize that there is a metric clock system based off of 20 hours split into 10 hour cycles just like our 12 hour cycles? the system has 100 seconds in 1 minute 100 minutes in 1 hour. Well welcome to America, now take your soccer balls and go home We call American Football just Football here. And we're not going to teach people to call Soccer European Football or just Football. We couldn't even teach people to use the metric system and that's based on 10's. Besides soccer seems so boring to me. I understand that its fun to play and a lot of youth organizations have it and schools have it in their athletic programs and it may be the number 1 country in the rest of the world.
