Another irony: On the "Layers" that it can show or hide, there's a Lodgings category that will show you inns and hotels. I couldn't find an inn in Bethlehem, Israel--some things never change.

The resolution for some places is much, much better than for other places because the picture of the Earth is put together from many different satellite photos like a patchwork quilt.

My house is near Wright Patterson Air Force base. The photo is so grainy, however, that you can't even tell that my house is a house at all. The air force base, however, shows the parked cars in the off-limits areas in great detail.

I like looking at U.S. military bases to see what can be seen. Surprisingly you can see a lot. Nellis AFB near Las Vegas has a bunch of planes out. Oh! The aircraft "graveyard" at Davis Monthan AFB has HUNDREDS of planes, old and newer, sitting around waiting for whatever. VERY cool images!

Well I guess what I ment was you can go 3D with the views, alot of it is still 2D but before you couldn't go from a birds eye-view to the tilt down/tilt up view. If you get the angle right and you make the earth move quick it looks something like your flying in a Blackbird.

First there was a map like this from google but it was flat, now GOOGLE EARTH is in 3D!

This is by far one of the most amazing things I have ever seen, you can go anywhere in the entire world in seconds. I went from my Tae Kwon Do Dojang here in Florida to Moscow, Russia. Then to the Capitol of Tibet, Lhasa. I even saw the potolah(sp?) Palace where the Dalai Lhama used to live. This thing is so amazing, forget the conventional paper maps, Use this and go across the earth in 3D over mountains, across rivers and through huge cities and Plateau's.

Explore!

That's strange, it was mostly 2d except where the Eiffel Tower was there was a little bump. What version did you get?

Not true! :D The Mountains are 3D, The Manhattan is 3D and some other places! :P
YaY ... I can see my house from up here!

Does anybody know if the pay version has higher resolution pictures?

Do a search for Benoye, Chad. I spent a year there, and it's in Google Earth, but the picture is extremely grainy--you certainly can't find the house I lived in. The town had about 16 bars--not bad for a village with a population under 4,000 --but none of them show up when I click the thingy to show bars.

Check out the Threemile Island picture--awesome detail of the nuclear facility there.

Here in Holland they were making a fuzz about it a little while back, since it could be used by terrorists to find targets to bomb.

I like to look at the towns of all the JA members. It has great detail over Portland, I've tried looking for my house but I haven't found it yet.

neat, but what purpose does it serve?

zoom in from space, after a dozen times even that gets boring, I used it to plot my course for traveling home for the holidays, fell way short of what I needed done, MS Streets and Trips got it done though
