jk2sp duelling, anyone?

Am I the only one who still likes to do saber duels in jk2sp? Now, before you start laughing at me, I have my reasons. Thing is, I'm trying to make the duels look as good as possible (with the somewhat restricted set of saber animations). If you try to do this in multiplayer, you'll end up dead quicker than you can say "your move!" (well, either that or you'll have an opponent who's jumping around all the time, which doesn't look good either).
I always play with 50 health / 0 armor against NPCs with 100 health and maxed up stats (if its one opponent; in case of more opponents, I'd rather have them not so maxed up).
That way there's still some challenge to it (you'd be surprised, sometimes even the AI has some moments of brilliance; once I've been killed instantly with a force grip / saber slash combo).

The real challenge, though, is to not kill the NPC as quickly as possible (which really isn't too hard if you're after it), but do some prolonged exchange of blows as seen in the movies (i.e. trying to hit the opponent's saber rather than the opponent himself, at the right times), and then - after a minute or 2 - do a bad ass finishing move
(like cutting him in half at a ledge and sending him flying, or beheading him etc.; since I prefer using "g_dismemberment 3" instead of g_saberrealsiticcombat, managing to place a decapitating strike is in fact quite hard).

Well, if you do all that in a good looking map, have the right saber sound replacement (honestly, the plain JK2 saber sounds suck), and some decent duelling music (my favourite is "Battle of the Heroes", BTW), the duels can in fact be quite good-looking and dramatic (espically if you manage to do the finishing move at a climactic point in the music).

BTW, I'm recording the duels and keep those that look good to watch later, he he.

Now, if anyone wonders why I prefer jk2 over jk3: I'm not really a fan of staffs / dual sabers / katas / rolling stabs / any of those force powers added in jk3 (in fact, there are only two moves in jk3 that I like which are not in jk2: "force long leap" and "force pull impale" ), and, maybe it's just me, but somehow I find saber duels in jk2sp more fun than in jasp.

Oh, I didn't know g_dismemberment can go up to 5 in jk2sp. Will try that out. Thanx Zeke.

The higher the number the more limbs can be dismembered, the highest number I think is 5 is maximum dismemberment meaning you can cut people in half and remove heads.

I never get tired of Realistic Sabering in JK2 Sp as a matter of fact :).

Realistic combat makes it so that you don't have to swing to damage people, its practically how a light saber SHOULD work.

It also makes dismemberment unlimited so you can cut enemies in to as many pieces as you like.

Its good fun going round cutting stormtroopers in to little pieces :).

True, but it gets boring soon enough. IMO there's no fun in dismembering when you don't have to aim for it.

Zelda, thing is, if you don't use realstic sabers (i.e. default setting), your saber only does damage when you're actually swinging it intentionally by pressing the attack button. (BTW, that's the same for jk3; you can try it out best in the first map of jk3 sp, when you have to cut through the tree to build a bridge. If g_sabermorerealistic is zero, you can't cut the tree without pressing attack button, otherwise you need only position your saber such that the blade touches the tree and it will go down without pressing the attack button).

And dismemberment (if activated with g_dismemberment) only occurs if your saber goes square through neck / waist / ankles / shoulders / feet (well, actually there seems to be some tolerance, meaning e.g. to decapitate, your saber does not really go exactly through the neck, but sufficently near it). And even then (but that is only speculation since the single player source code has not been published) a dice is rolled to check wether dismemberment really happens, ruled by probabilities defined in assets0.pk3/ext_data/npcs.cfg
(my guess is that this probability check is only done if g_dismemberprobabilities equals "1", so setting it to "0" means more dismemberment, but that's speculation, too).

And as Zeke already said, without realistic sabers there will never be more than one body part chopped off.

As for the meaning of g_dismemberment, I must admit I don't know it exactly. I think in jk2 it's an integer between 0 and 3, 3 meaning you can cut through limbs, waist and neck. Lower values only allow limbs, 0 means no dismemberment. But I'm not sure about that. Anyone know the details?

Sounds like it would be fun, I just have one question. What does g_dismemberment 3 do compared to realisticcombat?
