My name is Tyler and I have a question that perhaps you can help me with and is probably going to seem very stupid. I would like to ask you about skins. What are they exactly as opposed to models? How do I utilize them in my single player experiences? Lets put it this way, I am ignorant. Not 100 percent stupid with computers but relatively close. I have downloaded some models and placed them in the appropriate base folder (the usual demand) and those MODELS work. However when it comes to SKINS and putting them in the folder, I end up doing it, but utilizing them in the game? I don't understand how to. For example If I wanted to use Assaji Ventress I could do npc spawn assajv as instructed in the readme with its download or playermodel assajv just fine. (see link here) http://jediknight3.filefront.com/file/Asajj_Ventress;43465 but when it comes to somethnig such as a SKIN such as Nihilus, I download it into the base but have no luck in utilizing it in the game? i try playermodel nihilus and npc spawn nihilus, darth_nihilus etc. Nothing works. (see link here) http://jediknight3.filefront.com/file/Darth_Nihilus;64695 I mean there was no issues extracting the file into Jedi Academys base but am I doing something wrong when it comes to accessing skins!? How do I access skins as opposed to models in the game? I also couldnt figure out how to utilize your skin model pac on your websiste as seen here http://www.thejediacademy.net/news_detail.php?f_id=626 I know this question may seem totaly idiotc and maybe I am putting too much thought into something thats very simple? but i truly just dont understand how to access some of these things. The only skin thing to my knowledge that works correctly for me is a customization pack called spankis sith customization pack (see link here) http://jediknight3.filefront.com/file/Spankis_SITH_Customization;92043 but thats simply because these "skins" are selectable at the player creation menu. I apologize for my clear idiocy and ignorance but perhaps you in all your expierence can help me understand these problems. I have attempted to be as descriptive as possible using examples. If you can perhaps relay back answers to me with examples I could understand this very elusive answer. Please help me I truly want to have the ultimate expeirence with Jedi Academy. Cliche but necessary "Help me Obi Wan, you're my only hope"

Sincerely Tyler

Seriously guys, what the hell?
Here's someone new, obviously somewhat self-conscious concerning his lack of knowledge about the game mechanics, asking a completely justified question that none of you people seem to have a proper answer for (except for Amik and partially Angelos), and he's being ridiculed and laughed at for asking it in a certain way? How about you guys focus on answering the question instead of commenting on the way it was formulated?

Seconded, let's try to at least be civil to each other on the forums.

Now how's a brand new, bright eyed, wet behind the ears poster going to get anywhere in life if he isn't introduced to the real world and flamed on his very post first post?

I assume this is supposed to be a joke of sorts?

oh course it is.

holy shit dude...

i support all other wall of text posts on this thread...

to answer masta..because when text is presented in that manner is distracts the reader from wanting to read it at all and makes them focus on the huge text bomb that got exploded on his or her lap. I have no idea what he asked but i am unable to read it w/o tryin to ram my head into a wall.

Come on now, every Generation X boy wanted to be Luke Skywalker. Is it because he was a whiney farm boy from some backwater hack planet? No, it's because he was a FREAKING JEDI. He could block lasers with his lightsaber. He could levitate droids & rocks & crap with his mind. Come on, he choked two pig dudes with just a simple gesture. He cut off Darth Vader's hand and kicked him down a flight of stairs. He got his @$$ zapped by lightning from the geezer Emperor, stood up and said "s'at all you got b!tc#??"

I don't see anything wrong here. These are some perfectly legitimate questions that I'm sure many people had when they started with computers and gaming. It's fine to make some constructive criticisms, but please keep them respectful. :)

Skins can be for any models, even those that NPCs use.

As far as your question goes, as I understand it, skins are for player characters only - i.e. not NPCs. They allow your character to change his looks.

If this is incorrect, someone please correct me. ;)

Are you trying to patronise us? Or humour us? Because at this juncture I cannot deduce the need for such convoluted language, in what is essentially a simple game.

"Wall of text crits for 9999".

Now a serious reply: Models, in files such as .pk3 do work - but skins are just pictures, and often not .pk3 files.
The reason why the one skin/model pack works - is because someone have spent time making it work for the models.

Been a while since I played, so I can't give you an honest answer.

I'm pretty sure skins are re-designs of model textures while models are made completely from scratch. This shouldn't effect if you can add and use either though. JKA is very unpredictable with these things and will do stuff for no apparent reason. As such, I'm not sure exactly how to remedy your situation. I could, however, offer you a few solutions and instances that could fix/be the source of the problem. One problem could be that you are trying to use JK2 skins in JK3. Another can be you have far too many pk3 files and JKA won't recognize them. Furthermore, if you are trying to use a skin in another server it won't show unless it is not a pure server. Finally, it could be that the skin depends on a certain model and it is not included.
