i wanted to call this the "official" JA logo contest, but i think i should get a JAC blessing first (edit: yea, got DJ's blessing!) anyway, we now have a Logo Contest folder on our msn groups collection. so get out your copy of illustrator, photoshop, corel draw, ms paint, or whateva you got, and give it a rip. also if anyone wants to submit something but is too lazy to sign up for the ja photo collection group then just e-mail it to me and i'll post it for you. (please keep the size reasonable.) visit the msn groups folder here: JA Logo Contest i put in a few images i knocked out a while back for the JAA when aphex was making that site. nothing fantastic mind you. please feel free to post stuff for feedback and comments from the public here _______________ this is the internet, be serious damn it! Well we've discussed it. Thanks for waiting everyone. I'll be frank. None of the entries really caught our eye. SO... This poll has the top five entries. We're going to leave a poll open for one week. The winner of this poll will work into their design into something we want to have on our stuff and work it into a format that can work with cafe press. Here are the entries. Now get to voting. 1 2 3 4 5 _______________ My car is made of Nerf. |
DJ Sith - Jedi Council |
To sweeten the deal a little.. the winner of this gets one free item ordered form our new store with YOUR logo on it. This can be a shirt, mug, thong, lunchbox, or whatever. I don't want a logo that shouts "HEY LADIES DONT COME NEAR THIS ONE! HE'S A JEDI". I like minimalism in a logo design. Some tidbits. _______________ My car is made of Nerf. here are some ground rules approved by DJ_Sith himself: 1. DO NOT use any copyrighted material. this means, no in-game screens of any Jedi Knight stuff. It would be ideal that whatever you create is all your own stuff. Also, be aware of any copyright issues on fonts you may have downloaded or acquired. Most font makers will let you use them however you like, they just like to know when they get used on something that's getting produced. DJ cannot stress how much he doesn't want you to use copyrighted stuff, so DON'T DO IT! 2. Make sure the idea (logo/text etc.) is reproducible at a high resolution for printing. (I.e. don't make a small image that looks good on the screen but will get all blurry and crap when blown up to a decent size and put on a T-shirt.) The ideal final format will be EPS, PDF, or some vector graphic format for ease of scaling. 3. The logo will go on a white (or light colored) background primarily, check the CafePress site for a full list of products. http://www.cafepress.com/cp/info/products/viewall.aspx (Ideally the logo should have NO background to it, but for preview purposes, please put it on top of white.) 4. The idea behind the logo is that it be in line with a corporate identity. I.e. meaning this logo can stand alone or have supporting text. It should look good when reproduced at a variety of sizes, from a bumper sticker to a wall poster. 5. The JAC's would like to see a variety of quality ideas, so treat this initial go around as brainstorming session. DJ and the JAC's have very high standards that they'd like to see upheld by representing the JA with a design that can stand next to the classic logos of our time (the NFL, yes the national football league, is actually a good place to look at how logos today can become powerful iconic statements. For example, compare the new Patriots logo to the old one. http://www.logoserver.com/NFL.html Newer logos such as the Texans, Falcons, Titans, and Patriots show how a logo can be relatively simple, yet make a bold statement.) Ideas will be refined and developed by anyone that wishes. The final decision does lie in the hand of the JAC's. But as usual they listen to everyones' thoughts _______________ this is the internet, be serious damn it! This comment was edited by Orion on Apr 28 2004 06:18pm. |

Okay Odan I've been trying to convert regular images to the correct size for usage as an icon, but each time (with IconEdit) the colors - form - whatever looks like crap I was wondering if (when you're done, and take your time btw, I still got some work ) you could perhaps do it with PS, or whatever you're using I don't know if you happen to know the requirements for an icon, I think it's: 256 colors (or no colors for that matter) 16x16 pixels, 32 x 32 pixels (I've seen icons of both these sizes) well anyway, I think that's the important part I also don't know if there is like a function in PS for this, so I hope I'm not burdening you with a lot of work here ... if so you can always tell me, and I'll go with one of the flashy Windows-icons _______________ Visit the Belouve Family Website! Okay, a quick question directed to both JAC's and Odan-Wei I've written a small program for the Academy (will be releasing shortly), but I'm lacking a nice Icon. I thought "What could be better than the real Jedi-Academy Logo?" So I was wondering if I could use Odan-Wei's entry as a logo. If so, it'll have to be remade by someone (just a little smaller 16 x 16 pixels to be exact ) and I could use it? Am I allowed to use it? If not, you can also tell me, I won't mind _______________ Visit the Belouve Family Website! Quote: I try to have fun with my friends and try to make a difference as best I can. Well first off copyrights wouldn't be the issue here I'm afraid. Selling and making profit off of another brand's identifiable mark would fall under 'dilution' in trademark infirngement. Quote: In addition to bringing an action for infringement, owners of trademarks can also bring an action for trademark dilution under either federal or state law. Under federal law, a dilution claim can be brought only if the mark is "famous." In deciding whether a mark is famous, the courts will look to the following factors: (1) the degree of inherent or acquired distinctiveness; (2) the duration and extent of use; (3) the amount of advertising and publicity; (4) the geographic extent of the market; (5) the channels of trade; (6) the degree of recognition in trading areas; (7) any use of similar marks by third parties; (8) whether the mark is registered. 15 U.S.C. ยง 1125(c). Kodak, Exxon, and Xerox are all examples of famous marks. Under state law, a mark need not be famous in order to give rise to a dilution claim. Instead, dilution is available if: (1) the mark has "selling power" or, in other words, a distinctive quality; and (2) the two marks are substantially similar. Mead Data Central, Inc. v. Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc., 875 F.2d 1026 (2d Cir. 1989). Once the prerequisites for a dilution claim are satisfied, the owner of a mark can bring an action against any use of that mark that dilutes the distinctive quality of that mark, either through "blurring" or "tarnishment" of that mark; unlike an infringement claim, likelihood of confusion is not necessary. Blurring occurs when the power of the mark is weakened through its identification with dissimilar goods. For example, Kodak brand bicycles or Xerox brand cigarettes. Although neither example is likely to cause confusion among consumers, each dilutes the distinctive quality of the mark. Tarnishment occurs when the mark is cast in an unflattering light, typically through its association with inferior or unseemly products or services. So, for example, in a recent case, ToysRUs successfully brought a tarnishment claim against adultsrus.com, a pornographic web-site. Toys "R" Us v. Akkaoui, 40 U.S.P.Q.2d (BNA) 1836 (N.D. Cal. Oct. 29, 1996). Typically if the MLB were to discover the JA selling items bearing a logo of that similarity, they would write a stern cease and desist letter demanding that the selling of the items stop immediately. If the JA was to continue then massadoobie or DJ Sith may find themselves in some trouble. Anyways I hate feeling like I'm spoiling the fun, but someone has to point this out. It would be terrible to see the JA or its leaders get in any kind of trouble. |

I think #5 is one of the most creative ideas, when I first saw it I loved it. But something I want to remind the JA is that if these logos were put on an item and sold for $ - no matter what the intentions - there could be legal consequences for using something so similar to the trademarked logo for Major League Baseball. The following are trademarks or service marks of Major League Baseball entities and may be used only with permission of Major League Baseball Properties, Inc. or the relevant Major League Baseball entity: Major League, Major League Baseball, MLB, the silhouetted batter logo, World Series, National League, American League, Division Series, League Championship Series, All-Star Game, and the names, nicknames, logos, uniform designs, color combinations, and slogans designating the Major League Baseball clubs and entities, and their respective mascots, events and exhibitions. Which sucks cause I think no harm would come to MLB for it, but I would hate to see the JA get in trouble. |

I think everybody should take a look on #2!!! I <3 it.. I mean, just by changing the font a little, and maybe making those borders around the font a little thinner that would make an awesume logo.. And this was not the final logo we're going to choose, as DJ said it's gonna be worked on by the JAC's and the artist him/herself, so I suggest you vote on THAT basis, not on how they look like now, but on the concept/idea and meaning.. that's the most important imho.. _______________ [ Honorable mentions: aph3x | Milamber | Bail Hope Belouve | Jaiko D'Kana | Rosered | JediEthic | Mike/JJ/TheKing | Kensei | Dane | Gradius | Thomas Skywalker | Pink Floyd | Setementor | Steinin | Odan-Wei ] [ Owner of: MetaDust's 500th comment! | Eica's 700th comment! | Pink Floyd's 666th, 999th, 1200th and 1337th comment! | DarkRyu's 400th comment! | Redeye's 1st comment! | Cow's 1111st comment! | Rufusan's 75th comment! | Wicek's 3300th and 3400th comment! | Dash Starlight's 2000th comment! | Piccolo's 3400th comment! | Takaru's 300th comment! | Senor Hat's 900th comment! | Rytandus' 4160th comment! | The first ever awarded, the original, the one and only, Catphin Award!!1 ] "Music expresses that which can not be put in to words but can not remain silent." |
