Suggestion: JK2 Night

A bunch of us were playing in the JK2 home server today for the first time in ages... brought back quite a few memories :).

Anyway, I was thinking that maybe we could have a 'JK2 Night' once a month where we all go back onto the JO servers. Sound like a good idea?

Edit: First JK2 Night is on Saturday the 26th! Be there ... or <insert threat here>! Yeah! And don't you forget it!

Edit: The first JK2 Night went pretty well... there were 11 players on the Home server at its peak. We started off with a mess about with amsit... setementor sat atop an amsit tower, until cmad caged him in trip mines :). Followed that up with some rocket-orbiting taken to extremes, a mass FFA gunfight, and then some good old-fashioned saber duelling. Thanks to everyone who turned up, and extra thanks to cmad for pimping jk2 night on irc :). Demos of the rocket-based madness can be found here: http://www.thejediacademy.net/forums_detail_page.php?f_id=9202

We should definitely do this again. And soon, I think. Maybe make it a weekly thing?

That's a good point... by all means keep it going on into the American night :).

And I agree, go on the servers more often! I'd be overjoyed if JK2 Night became redundant :). I think it works to attract a few more people onto the servers as a special occasion, that's all. And it might convert a few of them into more regular players in the process.

Hold it right there! :D

You're speaking about it in the past tense. For my time zone "Saturday night" hasn't started yet, and for others it's still early afternoon. Let's not start giving people the impression it's over already. It hasn't even started for many of us.

So if you're planning to join in, by all means do!

And again, you don't have to wait for a special night to join the JK2 server.

It's not too important when it is, exactly. I won't be there until about 6PM GMT. Presumably the Home server, yes. Have all the JK2 servers added as favourites and just see which one has players in it :)

How mad would it be to live in New Orleans, eh? I remember playing that game Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Fathers. That was set in New Orleans, and it was great fun. :)

Weekends are cool but is this going to be a saturday evening/night thing? I don't know about others but on saturday nights I party, and that's without a computer. :) (Tho a night of JK2 is a lot cheaper.)

Well I plan to be on tonight and at least for a little while any night that I'm on.

I disagree that the fixed damage of JK2 meant better tactics. My understanding is that at least part of the variable damage in JK3 is because of hit location, i.e. a head hit is better than a foot hit. I always thought that was one of the (very few!) shortcomings of JK2. Plus, I don't like the idea of mentally tallying how many health my opponent has--not very "realistic" at all compared to the glowing "wounds" in JK3.

I think weekends would probably be best for turnout...probably the same times that people populate the JKA servers...

It's not really important for it to happen once a month instead of, say, once a week... I just thought that giving it some sort of rarity value would ensure a great turnout. I think some people just need reminding of why JK2 is so good... if JK2 night becomes redundant after the first occasion then that can't be a bad thing :)

Let's do the first one soonish... not during the prom weekend, that'd be suicide :), but not too long after. Would a weekend be best (in terms of people being available), or doesn't it matter?

@02b-1dai:
JO was better becouse of many things you dont see in the first moment.
1. You calculate how much damage you make. a normal hit with yellow takes off 20 hp, with red 50-80. there are no weired damage things like in JA. you make always the same damage, so you can use much more tactics.
2. there are only 3 spetial moves, but these are very good. the lunghe is nearly the same as in JA, it only dont make so much damage. the rdfa is a killer. even if its not very usable becouse of your weekness, but on pit it pwnes! so is the ydfa much more dangerous. it hits much more often, and if its performed good, you can make much damage. its just a great move if you know to put it into your style. but its harder to perform becouse your opponent needs to be in your crossair...
3. and maybe most important one, you have saber-saber countering. In jk3 its there too, but i didnt find a way to perform it effective. In jk2, if sabers are slashing, you can use the new speed of the saber to hit your opponent. If you master that, youre nearly unbeatable. But you need a great timing and much, much, much and much more practise to learn it.

in my subjective view, i feel like i have more controll in jk2 than in 3. but thats maybe i played it before jk3, dont know... its just my feeling.

greetings,
daid

PS: hey, i like the idea too! :D i like to play some jk2 again :)

Althougth i was a very long time inactive (of course you didn't notice,eh? ;P) i would like to join that one.

I have to ask my parents everytime i want to play JA, so since JO isnt played anyore, there was no attraction to me.

I would join...

yea it was pretty fun :D

Especially building that /amsit thingy. Altho, I must say, after hearing everyone proclaim how JO > JA, esp the moves, I found it rather disappointing.
I find the JA moves smoother and combos are better connected. Red seems slightly faster, and the force jump definately is.

I think what ppl like so much is the sentimental value of it :) Not so much the game engine itself.
