So, May 17th of this year will mark the Tenth Anniversary of The Jedi Academy. You may have already seen or heard of some of the things the Staff have planned to mark this occasion, but it is also a time for looking back.

Whether you are an oldbie who has been here since the dawn of time, or joined years after TJA first opened it's doors (or even only joined recently to play TOR with us :o) we want to hear from you!

Share your stories, anecdotes, screenshots, videos, memories of anything and everything - the good, the bad, and the PINK!

We will be collating some of the choicest recollections into an upcoming series of articles that will be published over Anniversary week.

This place has given us all a lot to talk about over the years, so... who'll go first? :)

Let's see...my user # is 1799 and started in high school...2002? 2003? Somewhere in there.

JK2 was the game, and I remember kick fighting people and teaching the fine folks guns and such.

I used to spam the trainer powers for amusement purposes, and I remember me and Luke disrupting Virtues class by running around on Tauntauns. He had to kick us because nothing is apparently more obnoxious than two guys on tauntauns woohooing.

Team Derp, Team Awesome, Team Sexeh.

I did some growing up here.

Man...ten years?

Ten years huh?

Time really flies.
The JA jas been a huge source of happiness and experience in my life. I have been part of pretty much everything during my years at the academy. From being NofrigginfuN's padawan to finaly working alongside some truly amazing people on the counsil.

This has and always be a personal place of magic and wonder for me.

If you would have told me 9 years ago just how much of an impact this community would have on my life I simply wouldn't have believed you!

I came to the JA as a very young 17 year old, and very quickly got the wrong side of the stick when it comes to what this community was about. Like a few have already mentioned I was far to shy to actually take part in classes, I just asked to sit at the side and watch everyone else...to scared that I'd make mistakes in front of everyone else. Despite this I was still determined to "be the best"...even thinking about it makes me cringe. I remember hitting the JK2 Home server one time and meeting some strangers that I didn't know at the time would become like a second family to me.

Virtue, I remember marking him pretty early on as a very capable dueler and quite the charismatic sort of chap. I decided to use him as a bench mark and that I wanted to be able to beat him...baring in mind I'd only played the game for a week or so I'd decided that my best technique was to perpetually roll around the floor like some sort of force sensitive tumble weed. Thankfully I didn't test his patience too much...or if I did he never told me.

Xanatos: My JA bro, he'd always inspire me and push me to take chances and I've always found his humour to be as sharp as his lightsaber!

Jaina: I met Jaina very early on and my first memory was actually watching her duel with Virtue. I was thinking "how can they react to all this so fast". Jaina befriended me at a time where I almost very nearly got myself booted out of the academy...for the way I conducted myself and has always acted as a guide, moral compass and genuinely helped me find the person I am today.

I made so many friends in those first few months and found that no one had an agenda, other than to help you train and to make you feel welcome. I met such great people as Monty, Mike, Roan, Kueller, Aron, Jacen(solo & aratan), Smiley, Hardwired, Acey, Wolfwood, bart, The D'Kana and the Hats and probably so many more that i've forgotten to mention!

It was around this time that I got my first Master, the absolutely fabulous, patient and every wise Monty! Monty really took me under his wing and showed me the ropes during the transition between jk2 and jk3 and gave me a real push to try and actually learn something in game and made me explore all aspects, not just my deeply engrained red style...

Although this was a great match for me, it would be short lived as very soon I would be offered to join the D'Kana family and Monty agreed that the very best person for me to train under would be Jaina. Jaina was...has...is...the very best person I've ever met...and I've never really put my finger on exactly why. She's the sort of person that when you think you've figured her out, she pulls a blinder out of the bag. When I try to sum Jaina up I'd often say "If knowledge is power, to be unknown is the be invincible"...I've accepted that to THINK you know Jaina 100% is to prove that you really don't know her at all...I think...although I can't be certain.

(I've just realised this is turning into an autobiography...I digress)

Whilst life at TJA seemed peachy and I was enjoying my new found friendships I had also started to train really hard. 7-8 hour training sessions that would often finish at 3am would follow and whilst I'm sure psychologists would disagree I found it to be some of the most "peaceful" moments I can recall.

Unfortunately my world would crumble when my younger brother would develop Leukaemia. He became very ill very quickly and having once been a very outgoing social young man very quickly became frail and recluse. Confined to the house for extended periods of time due to the risk of infection and needing almost constant supervision.

TJA caught his eye on more than one occasion and eventually he stole my computer to set up his own account. He was very clear though that he didn't want any special treatment and NO ONE was to know that he knew me, or that he was sick...I think this is when I fell in love with this community. Anthony spent almost 3 years under different names in TJA visiting servers, speaking to different people and he was made to feel SO welcome. Nowhere have I found a better beacon for mankind than the experience my little brother had here during the hardest time of his life and instead of feeling isolated, ill and alone he'd almost always bombard me with the events of the day when I'd get home from school. YOU inspired him to keep on fighting and ultimately to be successful in defeating his cancer.

This is what inspired me to want to give something back and to progress up the JA ranks, as previously it wasn't something i'd wanted. But now i wanted to be in a position that allowed me to influence how this place worked. From my experience i realised that anyone could be like my brother and that everyone should have a similar experience.

Whilst training for my JAK trials Jaina introduced me to Dante who would become what I considered to be my "other master" he'd be a great source of wisdom and would challenge me on a number of levels. Between the time I spent with Dante, Jaina and Virtue training as well as my most recent friends Dash, Setementor, Laz, R2 I seemed to "woosh" up the ranks. I thoroughly enjoyed my time with those who served with me and I can't thank them enough for their patience, presence of mind and mindfulness.

During my later years at TJA I would take on and train two brilliant padawans and my only regret is that since going to University i've not been able to sustain my level of activity and training to maintain their training and some of the friendships i had here at TJA.

Despite this I often think about TJA on a near daily basis because it is from here that I developed the skills I use in my personal life and professional career. Characteristics such as Passion, Determination, Team work, Risk Taking, Creativity and Problem solving all developed in my 9 year adventure with you all and for that I will always be thankful :-D

This is an amazing community and that can only be because you are all amazing people. I think as long as we can continue to function as a community TJA's doors will always be open and changing people's lives whether we intend to or not.

It’s been about 10 years since I joined TJA. Where did the time go? I still have a lot of the old maps, even The Lost Temple. Now that was a fun map. I look in from time-to-time and post on the count thread, just to keep my membership active.

Last year my grandson and I went on the servers a few times when he was in town to visit for the summer. I remember when my son and I would get on here and play for hours. Those were good times.

This makes me feel incredible old, you know. I came to TJA by December of 2004, looking to expand my knowledge about the Jedi Academy, wanting to be you know, the best. I was always a competitive beast... :P

Think the very first people I met on the server were Setementor and his padawans. Or was it Wolfwood? D'oh. Well, they were doing the infamous trip mine training, which makes me giggle to even think about, you know, it involves a lot of explosions...

Also remembering meeting Virtue later on, through my time here at TJA. Met even the awesome Jaina, yes, yes, I so much looked up to her, she was an inspiration for me. Don't tell her though, that may stroke her ego :P

Can't forget Jaiko and his padawan, Illian D'Kana, both of them awesome and knowledgeable about JKA, had a great deal of admiration for them, both for that knowledge and these awesome, friendly personalities. Then I recall meeting Dash Starlight and Majno, these guys were just so awesome and funny to hang around...both of them later on being taken on as Virtue's padawans.

I can't not mention meeting Wolfwood, the guy, who amazed me with hys hybrid style back then, and who took me on as his padawan later on too. Good days, good days.

Also remembering Tido, yet another awesome guy, who I loved to spend time with. Not even going into the whole incident around him, just don't want to ruin this moment of recalling some awesome people I've met over the course of all these years...

Anyone remembering Gradius? We used to joke around each other a lot, he always said I had this red aerial h4x, which always killed him... kekeke... :D

Then, memorable moments with ozzcoz, lol, I once told him what his nickname, well, part of it, meant in Czech, and he had such a kick from that.. ahahah.. yeah, lol, I'm really old. Then there was Harwired, I still recall him complimenting my style after the first time we met and duelled against each other... :D

Of course, there's Sared, had some awesome runs with him as well... :D

Oh, all the late nights, when I'd sometimes fall asleep and then find myself in the old map's 'Sanctuary', if I only could remember the one who was pushing me there.. Lol.

Some good times with Masta during these times too, we both were in this ESL thing back then too. Such awesome and helpful personality, one could not just love him. :D

I quit JKA sometime later on, down the road, after becoming Czech #1; shamefully then, I was learning not so graceful style, when Wolfwood disappeared on me, and I just was still so thirsty for getting good at the game, so I resulted in doing, what most public server people were doing; so-called 'poke'. So, with that, after I reached that #1 in Czech, I quit, as I didn't feel that was really anything of commendation, due to the way I achieved it. <.<

I came back to TJA later, meeting some new people. Finding that the likes like Dash Starlight, Jaina, Masta and Setementor being still around. Awesome. :) Met some new people too, mentioned that. Laziana.. that guy, yeah, that guy, always so funny and awesome. His Radio shows, the beer sessions. He even said that I always drank beer in his classes, when I claimed, that each time when he used trips in his classes, it always happened to be when I was drinking beer... Think he married Trip mines later on too... rofl. :D

Sure, there are crazy folks like Maher and Cuthalion... Also, Hugo, who had quite a lot of knowledge, and I had the chance to learn stuff from him too. Good nights, long nights, challenges.

I also became Dash's padawan after some time. Good times. Was so proud. Loved all that time, wish that the old TJA would be back, blooming with activity and people thirsty for wanting knowledge about the game.

TJA is wonderful place, sometimes, I took steps away from it, but it's really like a home. There are paths and ways to be walked, but you always return. No matter where these paths take me, TJA is always here, when I want to see a great bunch of people. Who knows, maybe one day, there will be a way to bring something, to teach some wisdom; in whatever game that may be. :)

Keep being awesome, let's go for another 10 years at the very least. :)

(Warning - Extremely long post below. I haven't posted in years, so I'll try and sum it all up quickly.
Also, I apologize to those in advance if I offend anyone. It's not intended. If you read the whole thing you'll see it's actually just memory lane)

Man, has it really been 10 years?
I remember mostly everything...even now.
The Good, Bad, the confusing...and then there was LAMM..(it's own category entirely lol)

I know there's a good number of you newer padawan (is there even a plural form for that?? Padawans? Pada...wana? Padawunks? Lol who knows)

A lot of you never got a chance to see the earlier times.

Like actually seeing the founders kick the hell out of each other all signed on to the server (at the same time)

Or experiencing the very 1st class(which I believe I subbed in for...not sure what happened to the original trainer at the time...I didn't take em out I swear lol)

Even going through the games major Official patch changes
Dealing with an overpowered DFA, to an overpowered Backslash to...well..I guess what became mainstream for jka

The Maps being pushed out to the server on day one. Anxiously awaiting the download time snail to about 10kb a second because of all the people downloading it at once

Then there were the internal feuds. Boy was I ever the hot head at times.
Too many people to list (forgive me lol)
But I'll try
Phroot (my initial and probably most difficult rival)
Technology 10 years ago actually did play a factor in games like this. If you didn't at least have a cable or dsl line..well, let's just say you might as well have just close your eyes, hit your head against the keyboard a few times and hope something happens

Because of this, and my lack of knowledge of the game engine at the time, he was my biggest challenge
Knowledge really was power back then...
Kinda like it is now...ie: Dont feed JJ Chilli Dogs... Lol

Some of the others were
Jk13 - Various reasons. I guess our vibes just didn't click?
Good guy otherwise

Avalon - A very humble and honorable player whom for some reason turned sour on me the last we met. Still unknown to me after all these years. My best guess is my rep vs his?
If you're still around feel free to elaborate lol

JJ - Yes you. Punk lol. This guy was such an ass in the beginning. But once we got to know each other, it was like hulk hogan and macho man. It's just too bad it happened so late into my time with the JA

Jaina - Hmm...she may or may not remember. Being taught by yours truly when she'd practice all alone. Confidence near 0, no real incentive to compete. There was just something about her that just made me feel like she not only had potential, but the ability to impress. After some solid training as duel partners she started showing some ...rather interesting results.
Eventually, I suppose without getting too detailed, I failed to realize that not everyone can connect with you personally. People like their space. At the time I just couldn't understand that. Resented her for it even. To a point where I left the academy.
I remember her randomly showing up on my last clans server(under a disguised alias) I kept losing to her, over and over. Slowly realizing this person knew my weakness in gameplay. Knew my moves before I even DID them..
Alas, it was my former training partner.. seeking closure...on her own way.
Enraged beyond comprehension...I treated her poorly. For this I apologized for, and do once again today.
She really isn't a bad person at all. It was my immaturity years ago that just didn't allow me to understand what the situation was. That was my fault. Feel free to comment on this Jaina

Kain - Lol not really a rival. Kain was the very last person I competed against officially in a tournament. Granted, I had been very much out of practice and had been asked to come back...however, that last match took every ounce of my effort just to keep up. I lost in what was the closest match I had in some time.
In a different time, who knows how that match years ago would have ended.
This led me to finally understanding that I just didn't have it anymore. I never expressed this sentiment to him as I felt it just wasn't necessary. He fought extremely well, so well you could almost say he retired me for good.
It was reality smacking me in the face saying ..."hey...time to let it go.."

As for the others I crossed paths with
I have nothing but good memories
From Dancing to my Essa Rios music, to my random blurts about Roddymania

This place was a big part of my past that I could never forget

I can only hope that I had as big of an influence on it, as it did on me.

Here's the story about a newer member of the jka:

Somewhere in 2005/2006 I borrowed some games from someone. This really was a life changing moment for me in terms of gaming. One of those games was Morrowind, which I still consider to be one of the best games ever made. Another one was JKA. I played through the singleplayer and I enjoyed it a lot. When I finished it I started playing matches against bots. At that time I didn't play multiplayer games.

I decided Morrowind was awesome and went to buy it right away. They didn't have JKA in stores anymore though. In march 2008 I finally acquired a copy and played the singleplayer again. Although it was during the exam period I wanted more. So I just googled "Jedi Academy" or something like that and I came here. It seemed like a good place to expand my JKA experience so I signed up. I forgot about it for some time but got on the site again. I joined the server and enrolled for some classes.

One of the first people I met was Setementor together with ShadowJedi and Cuthalion. I think Setementor was very active at that moment and soon Cuthalion and ShadowJedi became his padawans. Later I met Dash, Laz and Joh and lots of other people. I followed classes with sete, dash and laz and learned a lot form it. I remember constantly practising advancing scissors although I ended up using red stance. Ultimately Setementor took me as a padawan in July 2008. It wasn't only the trainings I enjoyed but also the conversations.

I remember that Setementor wasn't that active for some time. By that time I also figured that I didn't really have a duelling style. Sauce was on the server alot those days. Although he confused me alot with his role-playing, he ended up teaching me some red. From then I've used mainly the red stance.

Later I hopped on the servers from time to time. Usually I just went on there to have a chat with someone, which I really enjoyed. Activity was low as ever but I still had training sessions with sete. Even though I was sad that I missed the moments of glory. These sessions were among the greatest moments I had in tja. We just duelled but it felt like we were having epic fights that even surpass the lightsaber fights in the Star Wars films by far.

I want to thank everyone for giving me such a great time in the academy. And that time is not over yet. Like always... May the academy stand forever!

okey I did come here September 2005 with my real life friend's account, which he created on my computer. Therefore I have had Pela Aladan as my username :D

and the account was inactive quite for while, until I decided to spice up my life a little bit and start to play with you guys.

zomg I was just 16 - 17 year old teen by then.
and tbh, I wasn't quite sure if this was a RP community or whatever this was... Because people were making so much drama over nothing :D

I remember how I admired JAK+ and people who were like having higher status in this community than me. But also I enjoyed from people, who were just "regular" beings in community.

and yeah I used to go by Maher Dakari gamename. uhm I kind of feel Cuthalion and Hugo's pain as not getting chance for JAK trial. For this same reason for example Senatu family was born, It was at first getting myself a mark of "I belong to some group and this group is awesome", but however how things did turn around -> Qin-Tay(Janitor) lost his interest to run Senatu Family anymore and I started to pay attention for my 'unoffical' padawans. Nowadays for example Elessar is one of my best friend and we are having a lot of great conversations whenever we meet on chat and hopefully in future we can arrange meeting in RL.

uhm however I started to think my ego and why I was so serious about everything what was happening in JA.net. For example, I remember how I got these mixed feelings when Laziana got into knighthood before me. Well ofcourse I followed my logic aka if I envy somebody so much, I need to get know this guy a little better before judging him -> So I ended to be his padawan and he's freaking most awesome guy ever! hahaha :D

Dash, Carrock, Yuken, Majno urgh I don't know where I would even start to praise these guys... <3

However Virtue has always been quite mysterious character to me like totally. I remember the feeling how I did admire him due to his padawans and all the maps what he did... etc and he was having like a god-status in my mind on JA.net :D
But then the first shock, He was like an total idiot when I first met him on MBU for real. Second shock he truly knows who he is and he doesn't need to pretend anything. Third Shock I actually like this guy, but he's still quite AN AWESOME jerk! <3 Which is when I relized why his padawans and other people like him so much :D

But holy mother of universe, Jaiko D'kana; this freaking guy is genious and he truly knows how to calm down people OVER the internet.

Jaina D'kana, what annoys me in this person... She always find a way where she can like totally enjoy on herself! She's like a cat who can just smoothly
adapt from one style to another...

Setementor; if you are looking from dictonary what analytic mind means, you will find Sete's picture on that explanition :D

Alex D'kana, Alexander The Great! I secretly raise my glass for him, every single time when I'm drinking!

Elessar, same thing as Alex.

Pink, same thing as Elessar

Amik, also the gal who never understands me or pick up wrong lines from whatever I'm saying :D

Rin_Mintaka, NJO goon! who just blasted his way to JA.net!

Luke, Praxeum goon!

SaZaBi, Chaotic mess :D <3

Ataris, my dear "enemy" who will never understand me! <3

DJ_Sith, Computer genious or something like that, yeah simply awesome.

Bubu, boobs!

Tarpman, yeah cool guy

Cloud, Calm down yourself sometimes and feel the patience!

Shuriyen, about the same as Cloud.

Kaelis, hurr hurr...

Lirael, I still love her singing voice!

Draco, Zeke = mad mappers! Like the mad hatter from Alice in Wonderland.

Eldor, Cookie! Hmm... yeah the freaking awesome musician!

Masta . <- Genious
Kain . <- Might be genious too...
Vision . <- Not sure, might be genious too... :D

Solitude... Feeling nothing but love towards this guy! He has some awesome logic! ^^

Plank... Same thing as Solitude

"Bohemia Rhapsody!" Hold dear this idea when you are reading my texts!
and you are on your way of understanding me :) also you need to handle my
finglish somehow... trololololo

However, I think I missed a lot of people from this list, because JA.net
had so many great people in it and yeah, I promise to raise my glass(when I'm drinking) always
for JA.net as what It has taught me about life, self-confident and everything :)

Thank you!

EDIT:

I forgot R2D2! ZOMG! well yeah this guy is so naturally awesome that you keep just missing him.
Seriously He's doing great job as being a US Guild Leader and He was great teacher back then in JK too!

Hmm which reminded me of another character! JANUS!

Also Tigerclaw and Malak x)

I... yeah, well I'm ready for manbabies for these guys!

Nah but seriously... many great memories here, when I have more time I'll reminisce and note some down!

Finalfreak: nice to meet you, and it's good to hear you're enjoying your stay with us. :)

Saz: I couldn't say for sure, but I think so, yes. If I remember correctly, it was a double-elimination tournament and my partner and me had lost our initial round. We had to play an additional game in order to make it to the finale, where we met JK13 and yourself.

I love trips down memory lane.

A friend of mine, Spookey (who is also a member here) got me interested in JK:JA. We were doing some project for school at his place and when we were done, we played JK:JA via LAN at his place. I got hooked and soon after had the game myself.

I first joined a public FFA server with a JA+ mod. It was MP/FFA3, the Tatooine map. I noticed I was player #1234567890... or someting, thinking, wow, there are many players in this game. Heh. I noticed my nickname being 'Padawan', which made sense to me as a default name. I changed it, but not to Dash Starlight, as I only used that name later and stuck with it. I did use yellow right from the start.

I spent my initial few months mostly on the Hellmouth and Angel HQ servers where friends of mine played and that's where I met Dami3n and Carrock amongst many others. Then at one point I met someone nicknamed 'Padawan' on TLC, who turned out to be Jaina D'Kana. She directed me to the Jedi Academy as I told her I liked her yellow style and that I was interested in learning more.

I was amazed when I discovered this place. People were friendly, helpful and generally skilled to very skilled players. People told me back then my attitude stood out as I was 'nice', but hey, it's easy to be nice in such a friendly community.

My first class ever was KaTaN's, which was a lot of fun. I participated in many others as well over the years, including:
- PlooKoon's Basic and Advanced Red Stance classes (yes red! :P);
- PlooKoon and Lancer's Single vs. Duals/Staff;
- Virtue's Basic Medium Stance and Advanced Medium Stance;
- Luke's Lightsaber Training (advanced yellow) class;
- Leif's Hybrid Stance class.
And many, many others. Heck, I was even in that class by SmileyKrazy that SaZabi mentioned. He and JK13 won the Tag Team Tourney, me and my partner were the runner ups. I remember it was a VERY good final. Good games, guys. :)

I remember teaming up with Kenny Jowol and Majno as training partners. We'd practise what we had learned together, giving each other feedback and talking things through. That really helped me understand things better. What also helped, was the training I got from so many friends here: PlooKoon, Lancer007, illian D'Kana, Jaiko D'Kana, Jaina D'Kana, Virtue, Dacascos, JK13, Carda and many others.

Virtue took me under his wing as a Padawan and started helping me out with yellow, movement, force usage and basic gunning. Following the purge, I was toggled in the first batch of trialees and happened to become the first JAK after the purge. ('Happened', because it could really have been anyone from that batch.)

So yeah, then I got to focus on teaching and helping people out in their development, although I was still in the process of learning myself as well. (A process which *should* never end as long as one plays in my opinion.) I assisted classes, took on padawans and even got to cover a few classs. That was a lot of fun. I continued playing on public servers, such as Hellmouth, the Angels HQ, NJO and JLG, but also (base) public duel servers. The latter I played on, because people used styles which were rare inside the JA, but I felt I should be able to handle also. Experience isn't just playing a long time - it's also playing the widest variety of styles possible.

I was promoted to the rank of JAT a little over half a year of holding the JAK rank. This was great, because it gave me the opportunity to teach classes and additional admin abilities - all tools to be able to give back to this community more than before. I organized the Fifth Anniversary Tournament in honor of the JA's 5th year of existence. It was a JK:JO tourney won by Kain. Congrats! :D

I became a JAM after that. Sete and my accounts were closed as a joke, which caused some stirr here inside the JA. In the end no harm was done though. I remember people standing up for me, which I very much appreciate even today. Shows who your friends are. I retired during the summer of 2010 and became a JA Radio DJ. I hold a 'classic rock 'n roll show' called 'The Jukebox' whenever people are on and I feel like DJing. I wish I could say I'm still an active member, but I have barely played the game in months. I'm currently focussing on the Mass Effect games... it feels like I'm moving on. Although, I'll always come back to this game once in a while if I feel like it. And I certainly would never leave this community. :)

All in all, it has been a great run through the years. I came here to learn some yellow and found a great community with a special atmosphere, friendly people and a lot of knowledge and skills. I've had loads of fun here and I intent to continue to have fun. Thanks for all the memories, people!
