Rules of Engagement -Sared - Jun 14 05:15pm | |
Each game or activity has many aspects from which it can be approached. In fact, a good deal of the outcome depends greatly on our view upon it, rather than skill. I took the time to examine some of the 'codes of combat' found here at the academy. Survival. "I figure, if I cant get hit, then I cant lose the duel." -Virtue Avoidance. Hit-and-run. Playing cat and mouse with your opponent, and you are the mouse. Not a good code to follow if you are in close-quarters combat, as it becomes increasingly harder and harder to avoid your opponent outright. Not to mention his attacks. I remember using this style of conduct during a duel against JJ. After the first two rounds he declared: "Dueling Sared is like playing a game of tag." Immersion. "Move like water, surrounding your opponent, moving quickly enough to hit every angle at once." -FaDed This is extremely balls-to-the-walls. Fighting at close range and landing hit after hit after hit, while at all times, being able to be where you opponets lightsaber isn't. Sacrifice. "You must run the risk of getting killed in order to land the final blow." -Odan-Wei This will notwork very well if you are not absoloutly sure of what you are doing. This is usaully a last-ditch tactic for a duelist that is running low on health (unless you dueling Leif, in which case your running that risk no matter how much health you have. :cool This might also be called the gamblers style. You are betting the match on who is going to land that critical strike first. One who tries this is contually changing the beat, or the rythm of the duel, hopeing that his opponent will slip and show his hand. So what are your rules of engagement? Write it well and I will add it to this article. |

If you go into a duel thinking you will lose, you lose. mostly i just put on some music, turn off my brain, and fight by 'instinct' *shrugs* _______________ It takes courage to grow up, and become who you really are. i have two modes of fighting. 100/50 through 50 is my offensive time. Where i throw everything i mostly know. Jumps, aerials, kata's, 3 hit comobos. when i go 50 through 1 i move to defensive mostly using defensive hits and running backwards trying to doge the hits and not charging in. |

Persistence “Do not let vigilance be wasted on only the most trying times.” -Ranja You should always duel as if you have barely any health left. Too often people like myself will go around doing foolish things only to become cautious with less than 10 health left. Learn to fight with persistence as if you always have 10 health left. In fact I’ll take a page from FaDed’s book and say turn off your HUD entirely-you’d be amazed the difference after you learn to fight with persistence without changing your style due to your health. _______________ The Jedi formally known as Ranja. ---------------------- "I can list among my experience and skills: leadership, extensive travel, logistical organization, intimate understanding of firearms, and a knowledge of security measures at numerous banks." - Jesse James |

I'd call my style the "Saber Ballet." I prefer taking turns on attacking and defending. First I attack or my opponent starts, then we trade. Back and forth the attacks and defense goes. Its rhythmatic, like a dance. I like a lot of aerial saber motions (they look cool) and other cool looking moves. Not everything I do in a duel is for damage, sometimes I do moves just for the entertainment factor for myself and the spectators. What people say most about what I do is that it can take a long time. It only does if the other person won't dance or is afraid to. Movement is my strength and I use it to my advantage. _______________ Gone but hopefully not forgotten... |

gotta say i'm a mix of the three. I'm usually a 1 or 3. When i get pissed i'm a 2. All I can say is run; AT ME!!! I probably won't hit you either way. After reading all that I have to say I'm a blend between the 3. Sometimes I'm very evasive and concentrate on my survival. Balls-to-the-wall is my favorite way of fighting and I'm sure that's probably what most people think of me - but its not always the best thing to do. Having this in your aresenal is good though. I take risks. I can't resist! Sometimes in a flicker of an instant I see a sudden possibility for a powerplay. Sometimes I get it, sometimes I don't...but damn ain't it fun! |

Depends on alot of things (and another sweet article Sared). I know I vary it up for each and every person I fight. We all come to the tables with distinctive styles. I sort of transform to try and counter the style of play I'm fighting. I CAN admit that Faded's ballstothewalls and Odan's get hit to make hits styles mesh together for me. Staffers need to be aggressive but not stupid. I emphasize alot of my fighting into Timings. I used to be very defensive with the staff, almost an all Virtue style of tag going, but as you duel more and more, you learn, its what this game's all about in the Dueling department. Hopefully that's what you were looking for Sared. Sweet job. _______________ Be honorable, be friendly, be trustworthy. Show respect to all whom you meet. Don't forget you learn when you win AND when you lose. Be the first to admit mistake AND the first to correct it. Be the shoulder for someone to lean on. Always remember those that sacrificed time to help you. Thank you Odan Wei, Vladarion, 3th, Moridin, n00b, Motrec, Faded, Leif, and Tido, you will not be forgotten as the ones to make you remember, it's all about fun... |
