So I did it again. Drove to DJ's house and came home too late, like an idiot. I gotta remind myself to stop doing that, especially because idiots riding motorcycles, fast and dangerous motorcycles come out at that time of night. Bloody nutcases. I was driving alongside an eighteen-wheeler when four of them passed me through the space between us. Scare me crapless why dont ya?  At least I don't have a decent stereo installed, that might have messed me up.  As happens in most cases, some fool said something while he was drunk and they took it seriously and turned it into a case study. Don't ask me why. They took three average, non game-playing people, (you know, the kind you never meet) and sat them all down to a session of some generic driving games. Study A was subjected to fast-paced, high-powered music. Study B was submitted to gentle, slow, soothing music. Study C played in complete silence. After numerous such sessions, it was concluded that, though the gentle, soothing music helped concentration and focus, Study C did not move at a very quick pace; the fast music did not improve focus, but did make Study A more 'jittery', and prone to fast action. Study C had no effects either way. This is one such case how such a thing as Music can affect your gameplay. Another that had been brought up a long time ago in the forums was that of alchohol/drugs affecting your game. DM_Rauc brings us his experience: I couldn't tell you how I play without caffeine, there isn't a moment where I don't have caffeine in my bloodstream. In JK2, when people got drunk, their skills increased most of the time. While it may increase skills at a twitch base game, it generally decreases their hospitality, so in the MMO-genre, getting drunk could lead to trouble. Later, he added this when the topic of playing D&D with friends on drugs... In general, they seemed much more detached. When they weren't high, they were getting into the game, using their imaginations, thinking everything through. After they were high, they barely paid attention, just said "I hit." or "Damn." when playing [lack-of-creativity], and they swung between compulsiveness and paranoia very abruptly. A third influence on gameplay as of late has been a good surge of CAFFINE!  You have your average joe like me. Likes caffine for a buzz, but isn't a total crackhead like Orion and has completely desensitized to it. Then there are some people like Rauc that just keep a steady stream of the stuff in thier system. People like Rauc are used to a constant level of energy, while people like me will end up fraying thier nervs anytime they OD on caffine and end up screwing thier game up. Does upbeat music give you a rythm to your duels? Does that extra boost of caffine help you solve a tactical situation better? |

well, I normally chill when Im on the servers and play some drum & bass / deep house chilly easy listening music. But when some duels/FFA whatever is getting intense, I switch to Heavy Metal/Hardcore style. I either go with Coffee, and lots of it. Or beer, but that makes me talk more and concentrate less. Pros & cons of Coffee :- There is a quick hit from coffee, but it does need to be sustained. I also read somewhere that you get more of a hit from apples, the acidity wakes you up almost instantly. Pros & cons of beer :- Well...inhibitions go out of the window, it is way easier to talk to peeps you don't know, but concentration declines too, but who cares. You are having So0o0o much fun!!!! Uncle great Article This is not good advice kids. I am old and have been drinking, not constantly, for a long time When i started I'd get really nervous, so started to have a drink or 2 to calm me down. I now often have a nice glass of wine next to me while on the servers. I have a few times, okay more than a few times, got back from a party and played drunk. The fights were fun, I'd have no style and spent more time typing/dancing than duelling. To quote my bro, Vax, "Too drunk to Funk!!" I very rarely listen to music but I do think it can help you remain calm/relaxed. I now like to get on TS where my Cous Linlei is the only drug I need. There are many others peeps that I like to chat to while playing I was going to start a list but worried about missing ppl off, but I like to give a big shout to "No voice" and "Naked". Caffeine. Lot's of it. And more of it. I rarely get really drunk, but I guess I drank a tad too much with some of the recent soccer matches. Playing definately is not too well then. But yeah....gaming, and especially CODING can just not be done without coffee. |

Lol! Great article Sared, you never let me down buddy ! Everytime I drink beer and play the game, it kinda shocks me how much it affects my reaction times. It doesn't change my style of gameplay, just makes it slower. I may realize that I'm about to get hit, I just can't do anything about it. Coffee definately speeds me up, but not in a good way. It makes me very jittery. I kinda look like I'm freaking out when I fight after drinking a bunch of coffee. Try to invision Howard Dean making one of his 'speeches' with a lightsaber .Unlike Bail, fatique is forever a losing battle for me. I think my reserve energy tank must have a leak in it. But if anyone is guilty of using 'Preformance Enhancing Substances', its me. I do have a secret weapon that I use that makes me like 150% better of a fighter. It's downstairs in the back of a little closet. I rarely ever use it, but when I know I have a big fight coming, and I need some kind of edge, I'll go downstairs and get some. It's truely magical stuff. Taking it relaxes me, but keeps me very focused. All of the sudden I see everything that's going on and can predict where my opponent will be. I've never taken any drug such as speed, but i wonder if this is what it would be like. Don't tell anyone, but my secret substance is green tea. Not the cold, pre-made kind. I'm talking about the real stuff. Get yourself a couple hot mugs of green tea, relax, watch a few fights, let it absorb into your system...and you'll be freaking superhuman . |

Omfg! jade! we use same time basis! im playing many times at day, and when it gets eve i play from eating dinner to 03:00 in the morning yup, also another thing. Once i was dueli´ng one of my students whoo actually werent student anymore becourse he had learned all i could teach him, so practicly, he could beat me at anytime. but that night i putted on some realy hectic starwars battle music and pwn3d the hell out of him...i dont know how that happend but sometimes it gives me a concentration boost. weird but kinda cool |
