Far Cry from A Jedi -Sared - Jul 04 07:20am | |||||
The pseudo-debate over whether or not the Q3 engine is capable of generating effective and fps-friendly terrain is one that is ended with this map. Sith-J-Cull has presented the world with his map, Far Cry of the Jedi. Perhaps some of you have heard of the game FarCry. While the author asks for there to be no comparison between his map and the game, this is unavoidable. Admittedly, the Q3 engine isn’t capable of what FarCry has produced, but mappers like Cull shows us that there are still things that Q3 is capable of that we haven’t tapped yet. The map is centered on a fairly big island with a volcano in it, and is offset by a medium island, with a small island in-between the two. There are inter-connecting cables that will push you from one island to another, leaving you free to take potshots at opposing players. One notable thing about this is that you are now able to charge the disruptor rifle while moving. On the large island, you will find an assorted collection of ordinance and architecture. This ranges from a small satellite platform, to an old beachfront wall, to an underground passageway underneath the volcano itself. A simple run through this passageway will peel off any aggressors, and equip you with some heavy-duty weaponry. Now the main focus of the map. The terrain. I swear it, Cull knows movement. He knows it well. The angle at which everything is set is perfect for optimizing strafe jumps and increasing your velocity. He has also angled a few spots near the top of each isle that are particularly hard to get to, but tactically rewarding if you can get to them. This is a very organic and natural-feeling level which provides for some great gunnery, and every better (gasp!) saber action. On a somewhat separate note, I have been talking to the powers-that-be about reactivating the jk3-Projects server. This time however, I would like to cycle quality maps like this one made by the JA community on it. Again, these are all in the discussion stages at the moment, but keep your eyes peeled for news about it in the future! |

That map owns, and I really think that it should be on the projects server, to see what would happen. |

I've had this map for a while, I'm a huge fan of SJC. I love the way the water just stretches on and on with this map. Cool stuff. What's all this about a projects server? I never knew anything about a profects server |

i like the idea of turning the projects server into a mish mash of maps and skins that we normally wouldnt use here. maybe we could add a few mods too? could add a great change of pace. _______________ "We keep odd hours...." ----------------------- They Live, We Sleep |
