Laws of Respect -Sared - Jul 14 02:43am | |
A while back, I was sitting down to lunch with my father when he looked up and asked me “Have I ever told you about Maxwell’s laws?” Now, my first reaction was to say yes, I had studied them in physics, but I refrained, because he had that special glimmer in his eye. Many years ago, when I was still in diapers, my father, Gary Maxwell, worked for ***** Corporation in Texas. This was one place where he can vow that the management was downright evil. They would sit around during lunch break and hold debates about how many rounds it would take from a high-powered rifle to improve the maximum number of lives in the company. Eventually, they narrowed it down to three heads in upper management that could be lined up in a row so that the bullet would go through all three evenly. During this time, there were few things he could take comfort in and just relax, one of which was his aquarium. He came home one night after one such debate, fed the fish, and watched them for a while, listening to the hum of the tank. In the tank were a goldfish, a couple of angelfish, a little ground-feeder, and three clownfish; a big one, a middle one, and a small one. Now for some time now, he noticed that the large clownfish abused the small clownfish incessantly. Constantly biting it and showing it around; the little one even had chunks missing out of his fins from all torture. After this particularly stressful day, he watched this for about five minutes before standing up, walking over to the tank, and knocking against the glass saying “You had better cut that out or I am going to tape a fork onto a stick and spear you outta there.” Now, the fish knew nothing more than this was the hand was fed him, and probably forgot about him moments later, but for that minute, he stopped picking on the smaller fish. The moment this happened, the middle fish started abusing and tormenting the smaller fish. At this moment, he formulated Maxwell’s First Law: When you take out @$$hole #1, @$$hole #2 gets a promotion. Years later, after my parents had divorced, he moved to Lincoln Nebraska. There he worked for a small software firm where the environment was the complete opposite. The management understood your problems and was willing to work with you to get your problems solved. The workforce, however, was made up mostly of government workers, the kind that can’t be fired and therefore come to work late, drunk, would hardly work, and were generally a pain to deal with. At one point, one of the managers suggested: “Why don’t we just crucify a few of them over the doorway and out front? Do you think that would get the message across?” Because of these government employees, the firm was forced to hire a good deal of outside contract work, which is what my father was. After seeing this environment, and comparing it to all the other working environment he had been in, he came to another realization, what he later called, Maxwell’s Second Law. The day that I go to work/school/etc. and do not intend to show the people I encounter the basic respect that they deserve as human beings, I become @$$hole #2. Just waiting in line for a promotion. Quite a pathetic existence if you ask me. I would ask that you keep these in mind in your dealing with other both here in this community, and elsewhere in the world, it can only make the world a better place to live. |

Quote: Your boss is only an asshole if he or she expects more out of you than you are willing to give. Unfortunately, this is necessary because the goal of business is to make money. What really sucks in my experience is people in management positions that are only there to achieve some status. Hopefully when that asshole gets taken out (and they always do,) the bigger fish controlling the whole thing avoids that happening again. People have to be given the benefit of the doubt. Asshole 2 might be a diamond in the rough or a failure. If he's next in line, most of the time there is no choice but to allow the person the opportunity to try. If they fail, down to asshole 3. At some point, it stops and you find the right personality. I'll add my law to Maxwell's: Always be happy with who you are and where you are. If you are happy with yourself, others will be happy when they are around you. Assholes won't be able to undertsnad your happiness and will try to mess with you. It never works because you make others happy and that is more important than anything. If you are happy with where you are, you will do what it takes to keep that happiness. Assholes won't get down on you for that, because they want you to do what it takes. We're all at work to work and be happy while we work. Those who don't make people happy while they get results will fail as leaders. _______________ {MOTS}Masters Of The Sith |

This is truely a most interesting article. I've often thought of myself as an (_!_) hole in the past and religiously in the present. Still, alot of ego, swollen head, pride, and other things remain and I don't like that at all. I wish I was truely humble and totally at peace with what I am, where I am, and where I am going. Oh how I really do. The work of my hands can't even save me and I do such great work when I put my heart into it. Kinda sad if you think about it. One can work his intire life wanting to better himself and his lot, but does he truely have any power to do so? Damn my ignorance and stupidity. Humbleness is the true way of happiness and maybe not eternal happiness from a willing man's point of view but nontheless happiness. So much evil in the world, in our country, in our states, in our cities and towns, in our every action and we can't even see it or know it. Can't embrace it or change it for it always is, was, and will be. O.o o.O Most of you probably think I'm off my rocker posting something like this but this is what flows into my mind as I read this article. What is life, why are we here, and what real power do any of us have? I will say this. In the end of days in whatever form it comes, I hope alot if not all of us will be together happy and living after death. Please have mercy Oh God. Please have mercy on us. Amen. _______________ For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. Rom. 1:16 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. Rom. 10:17 I love my babyface. Smilykrazy is my baby and I love her. ...Swimming through the void we hear the Word, we lose ourselves but we find it all... System Of A Down.
