An interview with Janus! -Â - Aug 05 05:33am | |
Mike, our very own metalhead Scottie Knight, was kind enough to interview and submit an interview with Janus, a student and all around cool guy. Read on! It's nice to get a student's perspective on this place every now and then. I, King Mike, your benevolent and SEXY pal, was lucky enough to score an interview with that Stein swillin,' Iron pumpin' son of a gun... the one and only Janus! How does Janus feel about the Academy? How was his first visit to the Academy? What's his favourite milkshake? Read on, and learn! Mike: Hey Janus, thanks for taking the time to talk! Janus: No problem! I'm honored to be asked to talk Mike: First of all, when did you first join the Academy? Janus: I'm not sure of my exact date, but it was about a week after Jedi Academy came out for the PC, somewhere in mid october or so. Mike: Awesome, and how did you discover the academy? Janus: I was actually sick, after playing for a week, of the pubs and what they had to offer. I just happened to be looking up Jedi Academy on google for possible servers like in jk2 where you could fight without interruption, when this site popped up and had me intrigued. I signed up and within a day or so, I was officially a member. When I say interrupted, I mean to hold a duel with another without a third party interfering, which was common on pubs. Mike: I see. What was your first impression of the Academy when you became active? Janus: I wasn't at all sure as to what to expect, but when I came on, I was greeted by about 3 - 5 people. A warm greeting like that made a solid first impression. Once I got going with the rules and knowing what to do, what not to do, I really liked coming here as a place to hang out, have some saber fun, and just plain have a good ol' time. Mike: Awesome. Do you feel the Academy manages to maintain it's academic aspects alongside the community? Janus: For sure! I haven't actually gotten to partake in the classes due to time constraints, but from what I've heard, they're great! I see the list and am amazed by the amount of options available for academy members to choose from. On top of that, the academy has it's own libary aka The Holocron, filled with info, and pretty much it's own School-Like team in the Aurochs. Mike: Could you tell us a little bit about your own training? Janus: Oh wow, digging back here on this one . Well, I was always a Darth Maul fan, but was 100% jedi type, so staff and light-side I knew was my way to go. How to use the staff came about in a humerous fashion. I was actually trying to fight with it, doing terrible with it, and a fellow by the name of n00b shows me the basics behind it. I've done nothing but go off of that and expand it on my own. Also, I've tried to fight as many duels as I could early on, that helped to broaden my knowledge on all the sabers. Mike: I see, that's awesome. How do you feel about the work done by the Knights, Trainers, Staff and Council? Janus: Well for one, I know they are constantly working their tail off to provide for the rest of us. Whether classes, special events (prom and r2d2soccer!), maintaining the site or what not, they are always looking out for the academy. Just looking at the map for the jk3home server shows the kind of effort given. Mike: I see. What kind of things would you like to see in the future, here at the Academy? Janus: For an Academy, having the classes, a school to go too(with the academy map), I've been pretty happy with what I've seen. I do know that sometimes some items of importance seem to lose focus, like the Aurochs and Holocron. I think both of those are essential keys to the school. I would like to see expansion of the Aurochs from TFFA and CTF to DUELS as well. I don't know baby steps. If I remember correctly, Virtue was working on a new academy map, that will be cool to see implemented. I also think Dynamic Events would be beneficial for the Academy. Mike: Dynamic events? Janus: I hate to tangent, but in Massive Online Role-Playing Games (more commonly called MMORPGs), you do the same consistant thing over and over, and it can get monotonous. The companies then hold events during holidays or seasons and such that they write code for specifically for that event. Coming back to the JA, being here for the Prom was important, it was something different, a new map was created, and a good time was had by all. It was a stray from the norm, and it was very successful. Not to say the norm was bad, just to have something change for a few days was really really cool. When I say Dynamic Events, that can be synonymous with monthly events or something along those lines. I tend to babble a lot, forgive me. Mike: That's totally cool. I like the idea. Ok, we'll wrap things up with a bit of word association. I give you a word or two, and you say the first thing that comes to mind, or give an opinion. Ready? Janus: Heh, sure thing, let's see how I do Mike: Hehe, alright. Mike: Classes? Janus: Important Mike: Forums? Janus: Community Mike: Knights? Janus: Leaders Mike: Trainers? Janus: Educators Mike: DJ Sith? Janus: (multi-word association) Needs to sit down at Mune's and join you and I for a pint of guinness. Mike: Absolutely. Janus: Amen! Mike: Ok Janus, thanks very much for your time. See ya around, champ! Janus: No problem, thanks for having me for the interview, take care bro! Mike: You too, buddy. |
