The sad part is, I read this article right after sitting through a sociology class where one of the students defended Islam as a 'naturally peacefull religion'. Now, I don't want this to turn into a pissing contest, and I WILL make this thread dissapear if it does. Thoughts? Comments? Reactions? Here is the second article I read. This one has a bit more information, plus a verbatim translation of the video. _______________ I'm crazy, not stupid. This post was edited by Sared on Aug 31 2004 05:14pm. |

Sorry Sared, but could you clarify your point? The thing is that almost all religions have fundamentalist factions that are prone to violence and the like, to force their beliefs onto others. At this time in the history of the world, Islamic terrorists are in the spotlight for certain reasons, but that doesn't make all muslims wacko-terror types. To give another perspective, I met a muslim girl while i was at university. She didn't wear any kind of headscarfe, or pray 5 times a day, but she was firm in her philosphies on life and the universe. You could compare her to a christian of some denomination (and yes, there is more than one type of Islam) who believes in christ, and his teachings, but who may live outside the strict laws of the church such as church every sunday, no pre-marital sex etc. So please tell me you aren't putting all Muslims in the one box. I'm sure your not, but just humour me, OK? As for the links. The first website looks to me like a blatantly pro-Bush and pro-War on Terror website, which isn't nesasarilly a bad thing, but hardly makes them unbiased. I'm afraid the second site didn't make a lot of sense to me at first, but it does seem to be reporting some clear facts without all the political colour. Sorry for the long post, and the fact that this thread'll probably get closed now :/ _______________ A wizard did it. |

From the second article... Quote: "It is known that the jihad in Iraq has become the individual duty of every Muslim after the infidel enemy fell upon the land of Islam. It was the Sunni people and followers of the ancestors who raised the banner of jihad and acted in groups spontaneously, receiving their instructions from the Book of Allah and the Sunna of His Noble Prophet. They included clerics, shaykhs, and military. The task is great and the situation is momentous that concerns the nation's fate and the defeat of the occupation. The aim does not end with their defeat but with application of the shari'ah of Allah and His Prophet. It is amazing how the honorable Iraqis' blood was shed and then the agents of the Americans came to reap the fruits and apply their secular program so as to take us back to the era of the agent governments of the United States and Israel. Once bitten, twice shy. Because of this, a group of resistance fighters who have experience in the struggle against the infidels from north of Iraq to its south organized themselves on the basis of the shari'ah in the Koran and the Sunna and we called it the Ansar al-Sunnah Army. We call on everyone to join it so as to raise the Word of Allah and obliterate the word of the crusader and Jewish infidels. _______________ I'm crazy, not stupid. |

Edit: I read it all through pure interest Now, personally, I once knew a girl that was Islamic. Since I'm Christian, we had many a conversation about what our religions are about. Now personally, when she told me of her belief, I saw that there is not a lot of difference. Boy, what was I thinking? When she started talking about how their prophet Mohammed told them to live, I was just stunned. Personally, I have nothing against those hoods (don't know the correct English word, so I apologize to any Islamic girls in here). If you need to wear one for your religion, and you truly believe that this is right, then I agree as well. She also told me that the Islam was a religion of peace, and love, and etc... I almost believed her fully. Then she started talking about what actually happens if you break a rule. She told me the punishment Allah would have for you if you did this or that. How did she know? Because Mohammed says so... That's great... Even Jesus did not talk about Hell. Just a thought though. So next, she showed me a music video done by Islamic people, to inform people about the Islam, and what it's really about. I have nothing against Islam, I might add, but that video was pure brainwashing! It kept on saying "The Islam is not about terror. It's about love ... peace ... " or something like that. Now I really don't care if those are the lyrics, but to make them show up on screen a thousand times ... that's brainwashing. I almost repeated it after watching that. Next, we talked about Al Quaida and terrorist movements who claimed they are Islamic. She told me the Islam hates them as much as we do, but they can't fight their own religion, since that would make the religion crash. I remember replying that it's not that we ask them to fight their own people. But at least stop harbouring them in your countries... No reply came to this that I can remember. Then we came to talk about Iran. It was the time when the young woman who had comitted adultry was to be stoned. She told me the Islam does not allow it. But it can be interpreted very heavily if you read through the Koran (I think it was the Koran, not sure). _______________ Visit the Belouve Family Website!
