I have heard of a couple of laboratories working on matter transportation. I wasn't aware they had suceeded with actual matter though. I know they used the same theoretical technique to transport a laser emission, but that kinda different if you know what i mean. Then again, in quantum particulate matter and radiation are supposedly one and the same, soo ... i don't know. Do you have a link by any chance, or what was the journal?

By the way, the problem with "transporting" matter as in the Star Trek idea Squib said, is that theoretically nothing can exceed the speed of light. So how can they be transported across light years in a matter of seconds? Or are you referring to the matter transporters. Oh wait, you are. Yeh well thats just silly anyway, so ... STFU :P

I read this all in a Magazine they been doing this for the last 30 years Squi, and its only recently they transported this Ions, and they only need to look at 1 of the pare of ions they are transporting to know what the other ones are because they are exactly the same.

How do they know ?

Wouldn't any method of mesuring the atom/ions change them or somthing cause they so ickle (<-- not too smart :))

ya I know all of this I got the book to, not full know all the knowledge of how they actually do it, But remember this is real life not Star Trek, and they have Transportered Atoms/ions across a table and 600 metres.

I had a Star trek phisics book but i lent it to a friend :( ill get it back somtime

It said somthing like

It never says clearly wheather it makes a copy or moves the particles, but the person writting it thought moves ...

A) this avoids any complicated questions about souls etc.

B) It makes more sense based on the phisics specs and star trek books..

They heat the particles until they turn into energy and then move then store all the data and then move it to the new place through focusing devices (the matter stream)

The problem is this needs

A) The particles heated to a temperature over 1,000,000 the heat of the centre of our sun
B) A computer with more memory than 1,000,000 times what all the books in the world could hold
C) a lense bigger than the diameter of the earth.

Somthing like that :P Ill try and get the book back

Actually, what Star Trek transporters do is deconstruct you -- and then, where you end up, completely modify the particles already there in to exact copies of you. somehow, this encludes the thingies in your brain that make up thought synapses, memories, personality, and such. So when something was transported, but never put anywhere, basically it means that they deconstructed it, and could remake it wherever, but it's actually gone. That episode with the two Kirks (forget the name) was because the transporter messed up and reconstructed him TWICE - but only, it gave only certain parts of personality and stuff to each one.

I know this from various 'the making of star trek' books. They are in the bookcase downstairs, if you care to drop by and check the validity of it. :p

I do/did Physics, and i know a bit about Quantum mechanics, if you want to talk about it.

I understand the concept of quantum entanglement, but believe it (like most quantum) is still just a theory without much experimental backing yet.

Heres an online article I thought was interesting about Quantum Entanglement: http://www.cakes.mcmail.com/StarTrek/teleportation.htm.
If people find this stuff interesting in any way, I suggest looking around and reading articles, in your library, with google, wherever. Oh and post here too :D

Sub-Atomic Particles at ths same wave function, IE, Electrons, Protons and Neutrons at the Same wave Function meaning same speed same frequency etc etc. Can communicate with each other Instantly anywhere in the galaxy.
