Grew up on the Original, so that always has a place in my heart and forever will. I don't MIND the new stuff though. And according to that little interview from the link, Lucas wanted them this way. You can devils advocate it all you want, and he might even change it again down the road. He seemed pretty serious in that interview and it WAS from CNN (The most trusted name in news TRADEMARK). Tell me what you think? It was kinda weird seeing Hayden there...and the greedo shot still bugs me a bit....but I'm cool with everything else.... _______________ Be honorable, be friendly, be trustworthy. Who would miss? Lightning fast after it, you see Han Solo hitting Greedo. I've heard this scene was put together wrong, because Greedo does not shoot first. Some "pieces" are that way. Its really only something that can be seen by the artist that made it. Alot of ppl tell me that something I've drawn is Perfect the way it is. But when I look at it, I see things I wanna change. Not with all pieces but some. Series: A NJO series would be )(^#(&! awsome! My only question is why? Why does he care, why do we care, why? You don't see Stephen Kings going, hmm I think "The Stand", "Misery", or "It" should be a littel different, maybe the clown should be be different and have a blue nose!!!!! What I think would be uber is a few mini series. I don't mean like an ongoing drama (this ain't er or friends y'know!) but kinda like the band of brothers, each one is like a mini film. The original are good, but like he said, the work is ever complete. I still go back and work on drawing I've done years ago. Because I know I'm a better artist now, and the changes I make will be good ones. Same concept. The fact is, it Lucas's vision. We are all just watching and admiring. Every change Lucas has made to the movies has weakened them considerably. I want DVDs of the originals, in wide-screen format, as they appeared in the theaters. Yes, it's Lucas' call to change them as he wishes, but he's changed them from the greatest movies ever to something wholly mediocre. I hope your realize Plo that by doing his replacements like that, George Lucas is effectively screwing over the people who did the work. The actor to originally play anakin, the woman and voice actors that portrayed the emperor, and the man who did Boba Fett's original voice. I'm almost surprised Lucas did decide to digitally replace the Boba Fett armor with Jango armor slightly aged, making it seem like he's wearing his dad's old armor. _______________ When you are going through Hell, keep going. -Sir Winston Churchill. If George wants to release stuff the way he intended it, by all means. I don't dislike the new alterations (in fact, I think some stuff improves the 1997 Special Edition, like the removal of Luke's scream, the improved CG Jabba, better Han Shoots First scene, etc), but I don't think they really add anything. Lucas keeps pointing out how he thought the original edition was unfinished but the fact of the matter is most of the changes are very subtle. He added some computer graphics in scenes, which are okay but don't add to the atmosphere. He tweaked various really tiny stuff which is awesome (the new Imperial font, the longer Death Star Corridors). He changed some scenes which I don't mind but I don't think they improve the original (the new ESB scene with Palpatine, Boba's new voice), and he added some stuff which I think is totally redundant (the Jabba scene in Episode IV repeats exactly what Greedo said) but doesn't harm the films. Conclusion: The new editions aren't insulting us fans, and the polished look certainly does the film credit. It even puts the prequals in a bad light because the original trilogy still looks more real without all those computer generated graphics. But the new DVD editions don't add anything content-wise. If you don't have the movies yet, buy them on this DVD, the quality is astonishing. But if you buy them for the altered/added scenes you're going to feel slightly cheated. -Ken  |

I absolutely love the added scenes of the Special Edition Trilogy. The thing I don't like about the SE is the scenes that were completely changed. I actually prefer the originals. The special edition compared to the original release. Hummmmmmmmm. I like alot of the new images and c.g.i. but I don't know if I would say it made the movie any better. I liked some of the deleted footage like Jabba in episode 4, but it really wasn't needed. The end of episode 6 bothered me. Again, some of the added scenes were cool, but the original made it feel more festive and happy. I couldn't tell you which I would prefer to watch because they are both equally good to me. Both have their perks and drawbacks. The scene with Han and Greedo didn't need to be butchered for any reason, especially with old footage with added c.g.i.. It was fine the way it was although it does clear up the whole picture on what happened. I have to see it before i judge it, realy... but i dont mind it if its better, but the greedo shot is not realy that great i think. Seriously, why would he change it if han shot greedo first, i mean, its Han style  . and the hayden thing....i dont know about that subject realy... |
