If you're a martial arts fan, you may have already seen this movie with Jet Li when it was released in China over a year ago and in some places in Europe about 8 months ago. It was finally released in America last month with some help from Quentin Tarantino (contrary to some popular belief, Tarantino did not direct this movie). Some people may be turned away by the "corny" flying ninja stuff and the fact that the movie is spoken Chinese with subtitles. That was one of the main reasons that it was released so late in America, since a similar film "Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon" wasnt a big success. If you're looking for a nonstop martial arts action-fest, this isn't exactly the movie to see. I've seen it and I have to say that it is sheer art. Beautiful scenery that's perfect for the mood, dazzling martial arts and somewhat of a deep plot (although it's not the main focus of the movie). Where the visuals really shine is how specific colors are used to represent a theme in every scene. This, combined with the slow-mo camera angles of smaller details of the scenery up close is rather striking. The martial arts is well coordinated, but as said before a lot of people wouldn't like the flying and superhuman fighting. _______________ When great gentlemens come together in a place. It could happen. All these gentlemen are Howard's family. Everybody knows them, but nobody knows. Why they come together.......... Just play cards. |
