Ain't you ever read a startrek physics book !

What do you think "Heisenberg compensators" are for !

DUH! :P

EDIT: Oh and if there were someway to power teleportation without any energy use then we can just drop summut huge into a teleporter so it goes back up and falls into it again and again and have that in our powerplants.

World energy shortage eat your heart out ! :P

Edit2: but im sure someone would make a sort of bomb out of it first :(

I personally believe that teleportation is impossible but I have been wrong before.

hehe good points made :)

yet in fact your angular velocity is higher at the aequator and lower near the poles. this is why rockets are launched as close to the aequator as possible, to gain "bonus" momentum ;)

anyway, you would need a tremendous sort of capacitor to "conserve" the energies involved in the process, and according to Heisenberg, its impossible anyway.
So one might be able to transfer some information, or pure elemental materials likewise, but not real "objects" imho.

Teleportation is just sci-fi :D

It has pretty serious problems, not the least of which is that there is a vast difference between "teleporting" photons in the way that has been described and transporting a human being.

There's also the matter of conservation of energy.

Suppose I want to teleport from Earth to a space station. My potential energy with respect to the Earth then increases manyfold. Where does that energy come from? It doesn't appear magically--by definition the energy it takes to teleport my into orbit is the same as the energy it takes to lift me up there with a rocket.

Now suppose I do the reverse, teleport down to Earth from orbit. My potential energy decreases by an enormous amount. In fact, it decreases by the amount that it would decrease if I fell from orbit. Where does that energy go? No place pleasant, I can tell you that. Again, conservation of energy guarantees that it doesn't just disappear. If I fell from orbit, it would change from potential energy to kinetic energy as I began to fall. More and more would be thusly converted as I picked up speed. As I entered the atmosphere the drag would slow me down, the kinetic energy changing into heat energy--a lot of it. I'd probably vaporize long before I hit the ground. Now if I teleported down from orbit that energy would still go somewhere. Perhaps I would instantly achieve the velocity as if I'd fallen the whole way unimpeded by the atmosphere, or perhaps I'd heat up by that amount. Or some other release of energy. Wherever the energy went, I wouldn't survive it.

Okay, suppose I don't want to teleport up or down but just to another part of the Earth, say from America to Australia, but some place the same altitude. But wait...Because of the rotation of the Earth I'm moving at considerable speed with respect to the place I'm going to land at, which means I'll have enormous kinetic energy when I get there. Again, there's no telling what my velocity will be when I materialize in Australia, but energy will definitely be conserved: Splat!

Teleportation is really not that far fetched if you can grasp the universe as being more than 3 divensional (and I'm not talking about time being the 4th)

Teleport light? It already moves at the speed of light. :P

Yeah, but the speed of light is still a finite speed. By "teleport" they mean move something in the same amount of time regardless of the distance moved.

It is possible to transport something, I read a article about this saying that it has something to do with Quantum Entanglement where all Atoms that share the same spins, charge, characteristics of each other can communicate with each other instantaniacly across vast airs.

They have been able to transport 2 Photon Particles 600 Meters, and I think it was a pair of Calcium Particles Across a table.

Psychc Teleportation is one of the stupidest things I've ever heard. How was the research conducted anyway?

Ozz is right on this one. Plus, the report seems to be delivered by consultants whose own scientific qualifications are highly questionable. The "teleporting" beam of light is interesting from a theoretical standpoint only, and I seriously doubt that the charlatans who were paid to produce the report understand anything at all about that research. This is just a scam on the taxpayers.

Think how many soldiers could have had body armor for the same money.

Read the article people: psychic teleportation. I mean, cmon seriously. The guys doing research in australia are using Physics, not psychics, to develop teleportation. And I might add they're not actually getting that far either. The amount of energy required to 'teleport' a beam of light is just absurd. Still, at least they've stayed in the real world with all of us, sortof.

Oh wait, this is a star-wars fan-site. :P

Hmm, new thought couldn't this be a nice alternative to fossil fuels? That would be really cool

EDIT: Although it would depend on how it worked I guess.

There is/was (I think he may have been english) guy doing research in australia in this feild, he made some astounding findings.

1st time I read an article on him, he had successfully site-to-site transported a beam of light. It traveled about 15 ft.

2nd Time was well over a year ago, he had increased this to almost 1 mile.

I havent heard much in a long time, personally I think this might be one of the most fascinating things that could happen in my lifetime. Imagine, how this would change "everything"

No need for roads, or even doors for that matter. If someone wants to come over you just bring them in through your teleporter.

The population would be able to spread themselves out more, towns an hour from New York City would be no more desirable than a town 5 hours away.

Im sure there are many more cool things I havent mentioned or even thought of but no matter this could be the one of the greatest inventions ever.
