Grr i need a way to cut out a Tree ! | |

Ok I have a picture of grass and a picture of a tree on grass (flattend) I want a picture of the tree by itself so that i can put it on another background. I would use the magic wand tool to select the grass and just delete it, but the grass is multitone and so close in colour to that of the tree that selecting it would be very time consuming (multipul pictures to do this on aswell this is just an example) What i really want to do is compare the two pictures and select everything on the tree one that doesnt match... any way to do this ? (paint ,paint shop pro 7, photo shop 5) thanks in advance --Squibit _______________ Quote: fiZZe: its SIR Fizzy Fluffy :p Quote: FiZZ[JAK]: that was what I call a counter Ah, things you only ever expect to hear once ![]() |

100% with Odan: the extract tool rawks. Then some soft eraser with zoom will touch things up. /me high-fives Odan! |

alright, it sounds like to get rid of everything but the tree, you'll need patience because there is no automatic/simple way to do it. You can remove most stuff using either the lasso (I don't recommend that because it's time consuming and less clean than using the extract tool) or the extract tool. Then, for the tiny bits of grass, use the eraser and select its size to fit the areas you have to work on. ok, moooo, upload the picture to somewhere, eg the JA photo thingy WITHOUT compression, or upload a zip somewhere or whatnot, so we get an idea of what you are speaking ![]() _______________ One of the Belouve boys, founder of the mighty FiZZsters Midbie council #20 - Fizz - #1933 - Jan '03 - Aug '04 "Renfield, you idiot!" |

well, you could lasso those out as well, or if you use the method that i posted down below, just set the overall color all of the grass turns to a transparent color (PSP's color replace will do this). _______________ ~Dav Proud Former Padawan of 3th |

all fine ideas except the tree has branches and bits of the grass background showing through between leaves, cutting it out would have all the grass background "poking through" and that would also be on the new image right? or did i miss something? (Thanks for the ideas guys, keep em comming) _______________ Quote: fiZZe: its SIR Fizzy Fluffy :p Quote: FiZZ[JAK]: that was what I call a counter Ah, things you only ever expect to hear once ![]() |

Using photoshop 7+, you can use the "Extract" tool (dunno if it is present in previous versions). Using this tool will remove everything that wasn't selected. Selection is made using a rough brush and by filling the brush lines with a bucket like tool. once you hit ok, everything but the selected area is gone. Then you can remove the bits and pieces of stuff left, using a sharp eraser. I strongly suggest you duplicate the original layer before extracting. _______________ Padawan and brother to SmilyKrazy ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Virtue, Furi0us, Vladarion, Hardwired, Janus, Axion, D@RtHM@UL, Motrec, Mike , xAnAtOs , Luke Skywalker; Little bro to SilkMonkey ; Special kind of brother to Kenyon ; Sisters in-law: Rosered, Ain-Soph Aur] Photoshop works: click here This comment was edited by Odan-Wei Belouve on Nov 24 2004 10:00am. |

*cough* photoshop 5 *cough* ![]() duh, you will just have to play with the polygon lasso tool, and when you are about done with the selection u turn the selction to "feather" with a few pixels so you have no sharp borders. alternatively you can "rubber" the corners to transparency on the tree layer.... _______________ One of the Belouve boys, founder of the mighty FiZZsters Midbie council #20 - Fizz - #1933 - Jan '03 - Aug '04 "Renfield, you idiot!" |

place the picture of the tree and grass on a layer, and the picture of the grass on another. turn the blending mode on the upper layer to "difference" or "exclusion". use magic wand to select the non-tree area (which is now a solid color due to zero difference). then use that selection to cut the tree out of the tree+grass layer. _______________ ~Dav Proud Former Padawan of 3th |

Layer mask and manually brush out the grass, perhaps? |
