I just played the demo on my old system (Pentium 1.4ghz, 512MB RAM and an ATI Radeon 9200) and it runs fluently. The action is incredible, the engine is something you've never seen before, trust me. The characters move fluently and realistically and the lip sync is great. I sure wish they'd release JK4 on this baby. I'm getting the full version for Christmas.

Did any of you play it? What are your thoughts on the game? I'm surprised it ran smoothly on my somewhat dated system, but it did - well programmed.

EDIT: Woot, I'm getting the Collector's Edition for Christmas!

Yeah, force push would finally be pretty lifelike... but imagine if someone was crazy enough to build a lightsaber in the Source engine with the enhanced Havoc physics - what would happen when a saber hit another saber? Real time physics. WOW. :D

I have the limited edition where HL2 can be installed from one DVD. :)

If I couldn make a suggestion, people who bought the game online seem to have an advantage over those who bought it in the shops, as they do not need to use the CD for installation.

If you have a good connection speed I would recommend that :P.

EDIT : Just read your edit, so I guess it isn't an option :P.

WTF, Christmas is tomorrow. STOP CONFUSING ME!!!!!
:P

AND Star wars Mod: Force Push would be awesome, all the little things would move :).

Well, I'm getting the game tomorrow (Collector's Edition) - and indeed I'm looking forward to the mods as well. Maybe even a Star Wars mod... now THAT would be awesome. :D

Expect good things from Half Life 2, and look forward to the mods. It is probably the best SDK ever released by a Producer to support their game.

Well...im not sure if all this banishment has brought piracy to its knees...or even close to that point.

Im sure that most of the ppl who were using the illegal version of Half-Life2, never had Steam installed on their computer before.

So in that case...the banishment is pretty much useless for all the ppl who dont use steam at all.

But yea...its something new...

Really, that is the only thing I can't complain about. If they are stopping piracy, that means lower prices and less pushing dates back.

I can deal with the hastle for that.

Um looks like steam is doing a good job, they have banned about 60,000 illegal users from steam since the release of hl2.

And im sure that there are certainly better solutions to increase the amount of bought games then investing tons of cash in new types of anti-piracy-protection which will be cracked in the end anyway.

But were getting off topic here ^^

In my opinion...valve managed to create another GotY title.
Half-Life 2 leaves pretty much every other FPS behind (closly followed by Doom3 though). It let me go like: O_O and !!!!!!!!! all to often lol

Word, I just don't like steam b/c it feels like instead of owning an actual copy to play, it feels like I am borrowing the game from Valve.

steam is a good way to stop piracy, the only reason these 'drastic' measures have to be taken is to stop the piraters.

Sinestro it's actually completely the opposite, as you can download the files onto any computer and play regardless of where you are, as long as you have your steam login.

the only real problem with it is just the whole steam thing.
Nobody mentioned before it came out that you HAD to use steam to register and upgrade before you could actually play.

It seems like a backdoor way of making you only install it on one computer

Its all about the textures and lighting in a game. Just because a game uses X's Engine doesn't mean its going to look like the game that company made to show off its engine. Each game holds its own with good textures and lighting. I think jk4 on a D3 engine will be very nice. id alwasy designes its engines for the latest and greatest. While Valve took the scaleable approach. So valve has the upper hand on when DX10 comes out or they want to add OpenGL Support for them it would be very easy, just plug in a new rendering interface to the engine. Valve took a C++ design approach to their engine while id took the old c approach. Both are good ways but valve makes there technology easily upgraded so the source engine can be around for a long time.

oh btw, the source engien is good but their shadows are all wong, not realistic at all :P

Then again, the Doom3 engine is less friendly to lower-end systems. :)

The Doom 3 engine might well be better than Source. Before you disagree, think about what an engine is. Valve are certainly better texture artists, character animators and level designers, but anyone could come along and match their efforts in the Doom 3 engine, if they knew their stuff well enough. So it's all fine and dandy for JK4 to be made in the Doom 3 engine.

Oh, and HL2 does indeed rock. It staggers the mind to think that this was made in a mere half-decade. It seems like it should have taken much longer.

HL2 rocks bad indeed... However the unimaginable happened
I ACTUALLY GOT BORED WITH THE SP:eek:

Some parts of the singleplayer missions just take
so incredebily long.

*extremely small spoiler*
For example the part in the hovercraft and the
buggy. It's just waaay to timeconsuming!!!

is that good or bad? I heard D3 is pretty good and all, especially with graphics, so yeah, that's good I suppose? (besides half of us not buying it because we won't be able to play it :P)
