I've been wondering for some time... If the Jedi were powerful enough to lift rocks, other people, heck, even an X-Wing, why can't they lift themselves? I mean, with enough practice, they could surely learn to fly (Yoda would have no problem, since he's smaller and a lot more powerful than everybody else). I know it would be a bit corny (Matrix: Reloaded) but imagine epII, Anakin taking off into the air and flying to the Tusken Raiders encampment, or Obi Wan tailing the bounty hunter woman(don't remember name) in the skies of Coruscant. Ideas?

They can float pureply using force (like Yoda) but its too slow to give them an advantage thats why I think they have to combine it with jump to make them go faster gives them a starting energy to work on or something.

Jedi can fly, they just choose not to. :)

Look for the scene in Ep II where Obi-Wan is walking down a long hallway with Mace Windu and Yoda, discussing how he is worried that Anakin has become arrogant.

Notice that Yoday is sitting on a small pillow, floating down the corridoor alongside Obi-Wan and Mace. :)

It's 'Courtship of princess Leia'.

Luke uses the Force to slow the descent of his and Prince Isolder's bodies after their crafts were shot down in a fight in Dathomir's atmosphere.

No wonder why they call him Skywalker.

The only time that flying will ever be cool, is whenever Superman does it. That's all. Everyone else who does it is just corny and semi-retarded!

RIP Christopher Reeves.

EDIT: Other than that, I totally agree with Scythus, it would completely suck to be flying so slow :P

It maybe possible, although, it may cause him to land on his face, but it would be worth watching thats for sure :)

They do seem to use the force to increase the abilities of their leaps (force_jump :P), but yeah they don't seem to do much in the way of flying.

levitation does take a moment to set yourself. Anakin does it with ease because it was small objects he was lifting and he is the chosen one. If you notice all the other aspects, they are working hard to do it. Yoda is tired after lifting Luke's X-wing, as is Luke after trying. Also making yourself fly around everywhere is a pointless gesture of power which the jedi don't do, and it would require constant use of the Force, which would be very taxing.

Yeah, but with proper training, they would get great control at doing that. The Jedi don't train in lifting objects and moving them every day for 15-20 years now, don't they? But if they were to train a proper power like they train lightsaber combat, they'd become proficient with it in time.
