well for xmas I got myself a sapphire radeon 9600pro but its and advan edition which means im up with the XT lot in performance few (but still cheaper) the thing is im still lagging behind in some areas, my hard drive is only 40GB and games are getting bigger and bigger! i also only have an old 2.4ghz celeron (not a celeron-D type)
so thats slowing me down as well i have 512MB of main ram and 128 on my gcard though so thats pretty good! Well I'm probably gonna get a external hard drive soon, will that make a big difference or will i have to shell out for one of the cheaper Athlon 64 chips to replace the celeron? I'm no comp expert but i know some of you know your stuff, so i'd like some advice if you have some to spare! :D
P.S. make sure you no what your on about! :P

hehe id agreewith fizz and monty

However, if u replace the procesor to an amd , youll need a new motherboard as well.

Cheap upgrade: Ram and harddrive (can be resused a bit in the future)

Medium: Socket A motherboard + sempron

Best (if u can afford it :D): Socket 939 mobo and an amd athlon 64

hehe grand-patzy :)
first, what kind of budget are we talking about ?
u'll be fine with the 9600.
512MB is fine too.
your HD and CPU are the bottleneck, definetly.

if you buy a new CPU, you will need a new mainboard, and new RAM too, at a high probability. so do the math, its expensive.
so you can deffo go for an Atlhon 64+ CPU. Id recommend it.
I am with Monty on the AMD/Intel issue. and for gaming, AMD is the best choice anyway.

what would be cheaper, is getting a new powerful HD, plus more ram.
it fo shizzle wont give you that speed boost, but you can keep the HD anyway, and RAM is cheap these days, and more RAM is never bad.
if your board is capable of serial ATA / S-ATA, go for that. if not, buy the fastest P-ATA (IDE) disk available.
check magazines or review sites like anandtech or tresh's firingsquad for HD reviews.

a fast HD considerably speeds up loading times, OS booting, etc etc.

It really depends on what you are doing. If you plan on overclocking, the AMD processors get way to hot. But, if you are into affordibility, go with AMD.

get a new MB, i dont rate pentium at all, and get a AMD athlon xp 3200+ cpu, real cheap now days. i would advise gettin a new hd, the ram is ok so long as u dont play anything like SWG or so, SWG likes 1024 minimum really heh.

Got nothing against Pentiums, i just think AMD are the same for cheaper price.

I would spent my cash on a new processor as well...but erm...if i ever upgrade my comp, then im upgrading it in such a way that i dont need to upgrade it for the next year or something.
So...i would recommend buying some really heavy stuff once...instead of buying low power stuff over and over again.

I wouldnt get a new HDD (with the exception that yours is running with ~5000rpms...which is a slow down) because ive been living with a 30gb HDD for 3 years without complaining about "not sufficient disk space".

Your RAM and GFX-card are both mediocre...so its like in the middle...you can definately play newer games decendly on mid-low settings.
My oppinion at least...

Take Care

sounds like a new processor would be the first thing to upgrade. or maybe even a new motherboard and processor. celerons aren't so hot as for as processors go, but i don't think you need to waste the money on the 64 bit processors yet (which would mean you probably would HAVE to get a new mobo if you switch from intel to amd). just my opinion :)
