Another note about power consumption: Do not daisy chain equipment. This means don't have one hub run to another hun which runs to another... etc. Have all the hubs run to a central one and only start makeing sub hubs once the main one is all full. The same thing is true for surge protectors. Run as many as you can directly into wall sockets, then fill the first strip with other strips before going any further. You should not have a strip into a strip into a strip into a stirp into a wall.

www.lanparty.com had a great guide that I think is still there.

When you consider a location, check the fuses and map out what outlets are on what fuses. You can do this by having one person at the fuse box and one person plugging a light into the outlet. Flip fuses on and off until the light goes out and you'll know which fuse that wall socket goes to. Figure max of 7 computers per 20 AMP fuse (fuses are normally either 20 or 15 amp but normally say it right on the switch).

Remeber a LAN party will be mostly but not entirely about gaming. It is (although people may not notice, a social event) so a lot of the same rules apply.

1.) Location

For gaming you will want a nice cool place, where you can control the lighting. This is usually a basement, so tell your guests or have an extra hoodie on hand for anyone who gets cold.

Since it will probably be a basement, make sure its clean and mostly dust free. Making your friends sneeze and cough isn't gonna make the LAN party better.

2.) Food and Drink.

Make sure you have plenty of caffine and water on hand, other than that, if they want it they can bring it. I would say Coke and Mountain Dew "usually" do the job, they are two of the most popular sodas and both have a solid does of caffine.

As for food, make sure you have snacks, and normally pizza will be fine.

3.) Hardware.

8 people 5 person hub???? that blows, or what if you dont get started until 2 am and your ethernet cable short, be prepared.

4.) Games!

This should be obvious but what are you gonna play? One game a lot? Many games? If many does everyone have them?

5.) Errata

If your like me (I prefer to hang at my place) Have a few extra keyboards, mice, and AA/AAA batteries laying around for unfortunate accidents.

6.) More Beverages

This should probably be abover, but whatever.

Alchol, can add fun to the gaming experience, if you are old enough. Also, If they drink they stay, take thier keys, have extra blankets and pillows. One of the best thing about getting all your friends loaded is, they will usually wake up and want to play more games, if you were smart you bought way to much soda, and extra pizza, breakfast of champions!
