I didn't confirm what you said, Gradius.

The way I understood your comment was along the lines of "Yeah that's pretty cool, but let's use the money to look for a more useful place." Something like that.

No. Any new place we explore is worth the money, that's all I'm saying. :)

In closing, I want to say this:

Space is big. Man is small. We are only beginning to explore our own backyard. Imagine what it would be like to venture out the front door and explore the neighborhood, and maybe one day the entire town! :)

EDIT: Aratan, check your padawan list :P

I never said they went to Titan to look for a place to live either. Bubu just confirmed everything I said. :D

I never said they did
I just meant that what if we could find something terribly cool which could solve problems ...

If your comment wasn't aimed at me, never mind :P

LOL what a.. umm.. interesting discussion :P You guys sure know your astrobiology! :D

They didn't go to Titan to look for life or a place to live. There's no other habitable planet in our solar system and there is no way we can venture beyond it at this point. So relax, at this point in time it's pure science. The more knowledge the better, right?

I've been following this Huygens-Cassini thing for weeks now, and this article should fill you in nicely if you're interested. The only beef I have with them is that they refered to Titan as a planet.

Of all the moons around here, Titan is most like the Earth.. they went up there to try to get more knowledge about how the Earth was when it was way young.

I personally think the Moon - and Mars - are a waste of time. Boring places. More gasplanets, please!

I agree. What if we find some alternative source of gas out there, or something that we can use for the best of our planet.
Or perhaps a planet where a plant grows that cures Aids, or cancer. You never know what we're going to find!
Think of the possibilities :D

I don't see what the point of it was. I mean, yeah it's cool to go and explore these places. But it's not like the moon is inhabitable. -190 degrees celcius is pretty damn cold. I guess the atomospheric readings will tell us about any breathable air and whatnot, but I doubt it. Still, it is kinda cool to see these places that we couldn't before except through a telescope. But I think our money should be put towards more useful projects. Earth isn't going to be our home forever, we're destroying it like crazy. I guess these are just the first steps though. Sorry, not trying to start any debates or anything. Just what I was thinking about. :)
