Saber Hilt Problem | |

I'm a little new to milkshape and making skins for JA, but I did make one. Everything seemed to work fine, however once I put the saber in game, it didn't appear quite right. It's a little hard to explain, but when viewing the saber, it seems like the front side is see-through. You can see the inside of it... and I'm not sure why. Anyone know how to fix it? Or even just some general tips on making a decent skin? I'll post the files at my site if anyone cares to take a look. Thanks for the help! How can I check that? When I viewed the model in Milkshape all textured, it look normal. Thanks for the help! _______________ "To Love and Protect" ~Fox -AJ- To all my friends and trainers: TYFYT! (Thank You For Your Time!) Projects: Onasi Temple Map |

I dont really know much about skinning in JK, but I know some about 3d-modelling in general, and it could be problems with normal directions. If you defined the inside of the saber as "outwards" in MilkShape, the effect would be that you could see through the outside of the hilt and see the backside (or rather the inside, but the effect would be the same). Just a thought, since I'm wrestling with the same problem on industrial models right now _______________ The triangular wheel was an improvement over the square one: There was one less bump. |

I was just thinking, and I wonder... In Milkshape, I used the Texture Coordinate Editor to align my textures. Is it possible that somehow using that, I made them all backwards or something? Just a thought. Hope we can this thing working! _______________ "To Love and Protect" ~Fox -AJ- To all my friends and trainers: TYFYT! (Thank You For Your Time!) Projects: Onasi Temple Map |

Well, some progress. The skins work, however, I'm having that translucent saber problem with the "Kasip" saber now. Maybe it is because I adjusted something wrong in Milkshape on the skin? I've seen other translucent sabers, that were like that on purpose. Any thoughts on that? (Oh and I have updated the files. They are the same links from the earlier post.) Also, before I forget, any general tips on skins? I'm pretty good with photoshop, I just haven't spent alot of time on the skins yet. And again, thanks for all your help, Virtue! _______________ "To Love and Protect" ~Fox -AJ- To all my friends and trainers: TYFYT! (Thank You For Your Time!) Projects: Onasi Temple Map |

Nope, the names are fine. The skin file is needed, so at least you got that out of the way before you ran into another problem. Anyways, I just looked at the file again and I know what the problem is. You need to resize the saber_w.jpg to 512x256. JK3 textures only work if the proportions of the images are to the power of two, so the dimensions you currently have are giving you skin errors, thus the Saber hilt is appearing grey. Just resize it to 512x256 and all should work fine. - Virtue. _______________ Academy Architect |

Kasip's Saber pk3 Kasip's Milkshape Save Well, I tried adding the skin file, and that didn't seem to make a difference. The model was still there, but it was all dark dark grey. I tried recompiling everything and made the whole saber a single mesh (there were three before) and tried it, and it still didn't work. Any other ideas? Maybe I named something wrong... (which I checked but couldn't find anything) So, I reposted the new files I changed. Thanks for the help! _______________ "To Love and Protect" ~Fox -AJ- To all my friends and trainers: TYFYT! The problem is that you don't have a .SKIN file to actually tell the model which .jpg file to use to skin it. Open up notepad, copy and paste this line into it: saber_w,models/weapons2/saber_kasip/saber_w.jpg Save it as "saber_w.skin" and place it in the models/weapons2/saber_kasip folder. Then pk3 it again. Should work after that. - Virtue. _______________ Academy Architect |

I made another saber, hoping I would have better luck, and got just the opposite... Now, the skin didn't work at all, and I have no idea why... I got a big feeling I'm missing some little thing I need to do... Please Help! Thanks for any help!
