Not too sure where to put this, but this seemed liked the technical forum. Anyway, I occasionally run on my own server from my own PC (for fun, since I like being admin. ) I run it on these specs: 2.8 Ghz Intel 4 512 DDR RAM JA+ Mod JK2 Damage Map: Kotor Flight school The problem is, every once in a while, I spawn a hapless kyle or luke npc, and try out numerous methods of "fun." (no bad jokes ) However, at certain times, I will sometimes spawn luke, or kyle, or chewie, or any npc, and the game freezes. I get this error message: "Jedi Academy Multiplayer has encountered an error, and will shut down." As well, sometimes the game just crashes straight to desktop. My computer is so far, viri and spyware free. All my mods seem to work, (MB2, Old school, FM3, and JA+). The only problem I have is that when I run my own server, the game sometimes crashes when I spawn NPC's. (not always, which is why this is confusing) If anyone has any suggestions, please enlighten a troubled soul. Thank you in advance. _______________ "To become a greater man, you must be a lesser one first." |

Well, JK:JA isn't perfect, to say the least. |

another freaky thing happened. My server just crashed straight to desktop, but this time, my comp froze. I had to turn it off manually, and when I rebooted, something talked about my drive C being "dirty" Then they fixed some errors. This was completely freaky and unexpected, so I conducted a virus scan. No viri, PERIOD. I think perhaps it could be due to some kind of system error caused by JKA? _______________ "To become a greater man, you must be a lesser one first." |

My game's started randomly crashing recently too. It might be related, so I'll post here if I find anything out. _______________ Saving the world, one kilobyte at a time. |

thx for the help and tips guys. (RAMBooster is pretty cool :cool. The good thing is, it only happens sporadically, so I'll just take my time when spawning npc's. It doesn't really damage anything, so I guess I'm not too worried. Again, thanks for the help guys, but I guess I'll just have to live with this problem. (Besides, I'm too lazy to try out all that programming stuff ) _______________ "To become a greater man, you must be a lesser one first." |

If you're worried about RAM, I highly recommend this. It monitors how much free RAM there is. You can click the "Optimize" button to free up some RAM. |

I run it straight from my computer (i.e. if I exit, the server is gone. So it is NOT a dedicated server ) It is not dedicated. I think perhaps it could be a .pk3 file, but what really bugs me is that it happens sporadically, so I can actually spawn chewie sometimes, or luke, or kyle, or assassin droid, but then occasionally, if I spawn too quickly, then the game crashes. I think it has something to do with RAM, though. Just wondering, the crashing, could it be harmful to my computer, or is it just a RAM thing? _______________ "To become a greater man, you must be a lesser one first." It could be that you are overloading the memory that the game is using. Are you running the server dedicated? Assuming you are, you could try using the "+set com_hunkmegs x" variable when you start a dedicated server to allocate how many MBs of RAM for JA to use. The default is 56 (I think?) but if you have 512MB of RAM you would want to use more of it. Of course this all assumes you have the latest patch which I think is still 1.01 for the ordinary game, or 1.011 if you downloaded the dedicated server binaries. Sometimes of course, servers just crash for no good reason, but that doesn't sound like the case here. _______________ A wizard did it. |

Could be a file in your base folder messing with it. If there's a file you're not sure with, try removing it. Also, some NPCs do crash your game. I was spawning one whose name I do not know, and it crashed my game. I spawned some droid which turned out to look like a graph-type "thing". The moment I turned towards it and fired my pistol, the game crashed. So I guess it could be Jedi Academy, or our computer specs... |
