mp3s are fine, theres no reason to demand a change to .ogg or .flac even if the formats better. fact is, mp3 is the currency of exchange as its flexible, its supported and theres no copy protection on it. .ogg is outdated ,) if you want to look to the future try flac. the Creative Zen, which ataris recommended should be avoided at all costs. ![]() bad software, unstable when transferring large amounts, slow, poor interface the player does NOT support directories, ie everything is on the drive and unorganised due to this, all tracks MUST be named how they want to prevent conflicts, ie songs cannot have the same name i could go on, but i cba ![]() _______________ Joined 16 October 2004 | Retired 10 April 2005 | Returned 05 June 2008 | Made Staff 27 June 2008 | Made Council 18 January 2009 Padawan To Odan-Wei Belouve | Adopted into the Belouve family | Twin to xAnAtOs | Owner of the 4th Quesi sexy badge ![]() Owner Of Virtue's 1000th profile comment, Mr. Doobie's 1000th profile comment, Gradius' 2500th comment, xAnAtOs' 2500th comment, Rosered's 1500th comment, Laziana's 900th comment, Scythus' 500th comment and Echuu's 100th comment |

How can you recommend anything that doesn't support OGG? MP3's are OLD and OBOSOLETE let them die. The iRiver is really nice, I am am looking for a new MP3 player and I think this is going to be it. 1.) Supports OGG 2.) Supports "Plays For Sure" Plays For Sure, isn't anything all that fancy, but if you used iTunes, the songs you download will be in .m4p (the windows extension) format, which means you can't just put them on any mp3 player and listen to them, this is pretty much the best way to prevent piracey for now. So if you get the iPod you will use iTunes to buy digital music. If you get the iRiver you will use Napster (yes napster has a legit music purchasing service) musicmatch, windows media player, etc. All of these companies use the same format comparable to .m4p and will not just play on any mp3 player. _______________ Silent Bob (Kevin Smith): You know, there's a million fine looking women in the world, dude. I heard a news report about iPods I believe from apple stating that once you buy one, your damned! Not damned as in going to hell, but damn as in the battery in it eventually needs replacing and most will turn to apple once this happens. Apple at first wasn't offering battery replacement so you had to go out and buy a whole new ipod. Now they do, but what they don't clearly tell you is you get a refurbished ipod, not the original you sent them. You lose all the music you had on there and most likely you'll get some beat up piece of crap that is defective. Seems like apple wants people to pay hundreds of dollars for new ipods instead of taking care of their customers. It was said that they were build with the idea of becoming obsolete where new ones would have to be purchased. I don't know if anybody else has any real experience with this one that they could share. I'm only passing along what I've heard and it seemed reliable and trustworthy. In my opinion, if you have thousands of dollars you can piss away without a thought, might be the perfect player for you, but for most of use with just enough or less money, you want quality for what you purchase. I would stay clear away from this one but this is only my opinion. I hope it helps you out with your decision. ![]() Also, I think Napster was advertising some type of music device which was insanely cheap and stored tons of music in. I don't know if that is the iriver thing or not. Maybe want to do some research into that one. Make sure that battery replacements are possible too. ![]() _______________ For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. fizz, it might not play those file types....but you use iTunes to synch with your iPod....(it automatically puts everything in your iTunes library onto your iPod, unless you tell it otherwise) Now itunes, being the intelligent program it is, will take that wma or ogg, and convert it to a file type compatible with your iPod, in the background so you don't even know its doing this unless you check and whatch it. Sure the iPod doesn't have a recording set up, but honestly, when do you use that? personally i have never pulled out my iPod and thought "man i wish i could record the audio of whats going on right now" I dunno thats just me I guess -Dice _______________ Dicemaster |
Fizz of Belouve - Student ![]() |
yeah Dice, I have sought for months and months of what to get. I like the snazzy iPod too, but it has two disadvantages: - it doesnt play ogg, or wma files - no decent recording capabilities I then checked out the iRiver H320, also, 20gig HD driven player, about the same size as the iPod, and costs the same. - plays ogg, wma, mp3, etc. - mic and line in and records up to 320kbps stereo mp3s - color display displays jpeg, bmp and Xvid ![]() ok, that xvid feature is really a feature i discovered when I already had it, and its just a show-off thingy anywho. but its nice ![]() I've picked it up from best buy in december for like 320$, so it might be a lot cheaper by now. as the iPod, this thingy registers with your PC as "mass storage dev", so u can just drag and drop ur files over there. the downside, compared to the iPod is of course less "cool" design, and less usuability. the control & stuff of the iRiver deffo takes some getting used to, but since it also offers more configuration options and more features, this is a tradeoff I can well account for. regards - FiZZ Belouve _______________ One of the Belouve boys, founder of the mighty FiZZsters Midbie council #20 - Fizz - #1933 - Jan '03 - Aug '04 "Renfield, you idiot!" |

i have an iPod, and i LOVE IT. it has the best organization of any MP3 player i've seen, all of my friends have been able to pick it up and figure out the basic features (scrolling songs, scrolling menus, playing songs, messing with the EQ settings) within seconds, EASIEST to use i've ever seen. the learning curve on this thing is so easy i think i could teach my dad how to use it (i had to show him how to check his email about 8 times) anyway i love it, if you browse around you can find them relativly cheap, although i do recommend going direct from there site, splugring a little extra and getting apple care. This will run you about 340 for the 20 gig, but my band direct has had his second generation iPod since it was released, and has never had a problem with it (3-4 years roughly) they last forever and are great -Dice _______________ Dicemaster |
