It does take the force to wield a lightsaber with Jedi grace. its a weapon. you dont need force to be able to use it. General greivous uses sabers, and no force, Han solo used a saber in ep. 5 (as a cutting tool yes, but he still used it), in the X-Wing series Corran Horn uses a lightsaber without any force training.
