This is no joke. According to NASA and other science organizations there will be a partial solar eclipse on the date of Pope John Paul II's funeral date. I will put a link below if I find it again but I have seen it on the news and on website news. Am I the only one that finds that weird?:alliance:

Here is the link---

What most people don't talk about is Pope John Paul the second has a Ph.D. in Philosophy, yes Philosophy, He is one of the few seriusly religius people to actually walk the frey unafraid of what they might learn, and I can seriusly respect him for that.

A lot of times though these natural occurences that bring about the warnings of major events occurred in the past. In a past where people weren't expecting the event to happen. Where they were only concerned about what was happening in their area. The only reason Eclipses even occur is because of the revolving of the moon. If it wasn't where it was you would have a solar eclipse every new moon and a lunar eclipse every full moon. There were earthquakes occuring in California hundreds of years ago that Europe was never aware of. Its simply a matter of using hindsight to say something proves that it was correct.

Um, solar eclipses don't happen every day, but they're not that uncommon either.

The problem with pointing out these "unlikely" events is that they get pointed out after the fact and touted as extraordinary. They're not.

Let's do a thought experiment: I'll shuffle a deck of cards, and you draw five cards in a row, noting the order in which you drew them. Now, no matter what cards you drew, what is the probability that you would draw those exact cards in that exact order? Is is exactly:
1 in 52x51x50x49x48

Wow! Something amazing must be going on here, right? No. No matter what cards you drew, the probability of drawing those exact cards in that exact order would be that. If you could predict in advance that it would be those exact cards, then I'd be impressed (more likely assume there's a trick). But what is know for sure is that some sequence of cards will be drawn, and that whatever it is will be an improbable one.

Now, to the Pope's death/eclipse thing. Suppose I draw up a list of 500 big events--huge earthquake, whatever--that each have about a 1% chance of happening on any given day. For any event, the probability that it will not happen is then 99%. So the probability that non of them will happen is (.99)^500 = about 0.66%, pretty slim. Now if I made up my list of improbable events in advance, you'd say big deal, of course one or more are likely to happen, we just don't know which ones. After the fact, when we know which ones, we can conveniently forget the long list of the ones that didn't happen and point to the ones that did, saying, "Look! What are the odds of that happening?" This is just like pointing to the 5 cards and observing how unlikely it was to draw them in that order.

Yeah I agree with Smily on this one. Looking into the future isn't allways the best thing to do, rather we should take things as they come and deal with them at that time.

Well they have the protocol of 15 days of mourning for the pope. He is buried usually at a range of so many days into the mourning. They knew that a lot of people would want to view JP2 before the funeral so they picked the last day that protocol typically allows. The eclipse won't be visible in Rome, or probably any of Europe.

You want to go all freaky, then you note that he was born on the day of a partial eclipse. And there's some Saint with a prophecy of the remaining number of popes being 112 from the time he lived. He supposedly gave each of them a certain characteristic. #110 having to deal with the sun. JP2 was #110. I'm pretty sure that this prophecy is total crap though. You know, like every other prophecy ever thought up.

:alliance:Actually the reason so many people are getting 'freaked' is because events such as these are seen as omens of great change. Could be good change, could be bad change, just depends on how you look at it I guess. Not neccesarily saying some great event is unfolding now but in alot of points of world history eclipses such as these preluded a historical event such as the crucifixion when the daytime skies became as black as midnight and the fall of the roman empire. Interesting though that during times like these another world event might be building up or maybe it is just total coincidence but I guess we won't know till everything falls in to place. Thanks for all the comments it shows people actually do read on here and have brains. Not all omens such as an eclipse point to some prophectic theory. Some of them signifiy deaths of kings, nobels and world leaders, change could be coming of course but it could just be nothing but coincidental timing. :alliance:

It's just the fact that it's happening on the Pope's funeral, that makes it look ... suspicious

The pope's funeral could have been between 4 to 6 days after this death.

If there's any reason to be suspicious of it, it's more likely because the Cardinals chose the date of the eclipse for the funeral. Not the other way around..
