Hullo, this be my first post at the academy. Anyways, last night i had a HUGE problem on my map, i kept getting a leaked entity or whatever thingy error. I had accidentally created a light outside of my skybox. The thing is, i couldn't select it! I tried for like 30 minutes from different angles. When i got to sleep, i had a dream of the stupid red lines that show where leaks are, chasing me around in my map. It was weird XD. Anyway, i somehow, clicking some weird buttons and whatnot got the light selected and deleted, but i never figured out how. So, if anyone knows how i might have done it, please tell me, incase i get another stupid unselectable light in the future. Edit: Great! Another unselectable thing! This time, it's a cone! How in the force am i supposed to select it? I meant 2d view as the editor and 3d view as the kind of "in-game" view. To make a brush Detail, select it, go to the selection menu and click "Make detail". |

Uh, after Googling The error, and reading around for a bit, i found out that i had to make the brushes inside my skybox into "Detail brushes".. Now all i need to find out is how to do it. _______________ Joined at about Apr 19 2005 12:52am Echuu's 600th comment, Mindrith's 500th comment, Piccolo's 99th commment, Mindrith's 1400th comment, Sazabi's 3500th comment gomgom This comment was edited by Takaru Averre on Apr 24 2005 07:30am. |

Quote: no offense but have you tried both grid and 3d mode. Quote: Um, Okay, i'll just check every day. ._. It's usually up and, as far as I'm aware, the most popular Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast mapping tutorial out there. (Yes, I know we are talking Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy here, but it works for both. ) Quote: In the mean time, How do i add vehicles to my map? =P As for vehicles, right-click in 2d view, go to NPC > NPC_Vehicle, close the model browse window (it's useless, as you cannot browse pk3s with it, which is where the ships are located), open your gamedata/base/assets1.pk3/models/map_objects directory and find a ship model you would like to use. For example, let's try models/map_objects/kejim/ravensclaw.md3 Select the NPC_Vehicle entity and press the n key, enter the key of "model" and the value of "models/map_objects/kejim/ravensclaw.md3" to have (by default) a model of the ravensclaw appear inplace of the NPC_Vehicle entity. Quote: Great! Another unselectable thing! This time, it's a cone! How in the force am i supposed to select it? Make sure that you do this in 3d view, and that when you attempt to select it, that you are not inside of the cone, but below it. If you need to, you can change your camera's view to face up towards it using the Z and A keys. Quote: ************ ERROR ************ MAX_MAP_VISIBILITY exceeded | | V Quote: You may get this error when making a very large map, and although the obvious thing to do is to downsize the map you can do other things such as use detail brushes more so the vis data is less complicated so then the vis data wont be so large. Also dont forget to use the caulk texture. Take into account the way the map is structurally made, it might not of given the error because the map is huge, but because its been made poorly in that you can see too much on screen at once and the view of whats on screen at once hasn't been taken into account well enough. |

Okay, i figured that one out. But um, now i get this error when compiling.. ************ ERROR ************ MAX_MAP_VISIBILITY exceeded I started getting it after making my skybox larger. But now, i made it even smaller then it was when it still used to work, But it still doesn't work now... _______________ Joined at about Apr 19 2005 12:52am Echuu's 600th comment, Mindrith's 500th comment, Piccolo's 99th commment, Mindrith's 1400th comment, Sazabi's 3500th comment gomgom |

Um, how do i delete patches? And how do i use a normal brush to make a curved ceiling type thing? _______________ Joined at about Apr 19 2005 12:52am Echuu's 600th comment, Mindrith's 500th comment, Piccolo's 99th commment, Mindrith's 1400th comment, Sazabi's 3500th comment gomgom |

A patch is a one sided infinitely thin brush used in curves. So basically, you probably have alot of curves in your map. The engine can only handle so much, so just delete some and use normal brushes. _______________ Padawan to the great Jacen Aratan! <Setementor> Scythus is a genius! Sorry, I just got that from a mapping site. I don't understand it fully, but I don't really know much about patches, either. Here's another quote found on several mapping sites: Quote: The visible brush face is being split too many times. Extra vertex points are created by q3map on visible face edges, where they are split by other visible face points (corners, or vertices). So if you have too many visible face points touching the edges of another face, that particular face will be split many times and have many vertex points. Note: This quote is supposed to hint on how to help solve the problem causing the error you are getting (MAX_PATCH_PLANES). This comment was edited by Setementor on Apr 20 2005 05:47am. |

Quote: Your using patch meshes which are too big, reduce their size. Use multiple patches for larger areas. **The visible brush face is being split too many times. Uh, i use GTK 1.4.0, everyone says it's better. And uh, i figured out a way to select the cone thingy. But! I think it's because i made it really really big, (I used it to create a fortress sized building) i get this stupid error when loading my map: "MAX_PATCH_PLANES" Or something. Any ideas? _______________ Joined at about Apr 19 2005 12:52am Echuu's 600th comment, Mindrith's 500th comment, Piccolo's 99th commment, Mindrith's 1400th comment, Sazabi's 3500th comment gomgom This comment was edited by Takaru Averre on Apr 19 2005 07:07pm. |

Provided you are using GTKRadiant 1.4.0, goto Edit > Entity Info > Light (its down arrow) and select each light until you get to the one you wish to be selected, then click select, or click select on all of them if you are unsure of which each one is. This option is probably available in other past and present versions of GTKRadiant, so be sure to check it out there, too. Also, GTKRadiant 1.5.0 is beta, so if you happen to be using it, I wouldn't be surprised why this happens. |
