Well, first I wanna say that I'm a big fan of the book. I think it's one of the funnier pieces of literature out there, and if you haven't gotten the chance to read it yet you definetly should.

That being said, I'm skeptical about the movie. I honestly don't think film can do the book justice, but this is just my opinion. How does everyone else feel about this movie?

I really didn't see the point of it. Then again I should not be able to state my opinion since I was with my girlfriend during the movie, so I didn't get to see the ENTIRE movie. ;)

I really, really liked the Hitchhiker movie. I'd read all the books (and then some) beforehand (long beforehand, not just as prep for the movie) and I went in there knowing they could change details around, already knowing they were adding something, and so on.
Perhaps it was just that it appealed to my sense of humor. For instance, there was one scene that my row of seats (full of teenaged boys, like me! :D) started laughing simply because I burst into hysterical giggling. I don't think half of them knew what they were laughing at; the rest of the theater surely didn't, as we were the only ones laughing, and all because of me.
And really, anybody who would complain that the movie deviated from the books, or it didn't represent them well enough, think of this: every incarnation of the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy has been different. How did it start? Not as books, no. As a radio show. The show is different from the little TV thingie is different from the books is different from, now, the movie. I suggest reading the radio script all the way through, and then comparing it to the books. Thing happen differently, and in a different order. Truth to the books, in that regard, was not even on my mind when I saw the movie.

I have seen Hitchhiker and the movie is kinda campy, which means most of it is unbelievable. Not in the "thats UNBELIVBALE!!" sense but more in teh, "huh, what" sense. If you have read the book, Guide, Restaurant, Life the Universe, and So Long. You owe it to yourself to see this movie. Doug Adams died during pre-productions and that really made this flick difficult to get to the silver screen, withs main creative force having passed away mid project.

I saw the movie, but I had no idea what the thought behind it was..To be honest I don't think it was a great movie as it not really kept me watching.. It was weird, but funny in a way, certainly not one on my favorites though.

And for the book, I never read it, so I can't say anything about it :)

I just saw a trailer for this movie (isn't out yet in my country, don't know if it is in yours)

The trailer was actually great.
It was a kind of trailer that I had never seen before, and I loved every minute of it.

I'm definitely going to see this when it finally arrives here :D

It's really funny? The movie trailer just doesn't do anything for me. It looks funny in parts, but I'm really waiting for people to say it's a must see who aren't fans of the books. Otherwise, I might find myself watching another Evolution. Now that movie was funny and a good watch, but not a necessary one. :)

So I saw it last night. It was reall good. Very funny, but not wholly accurate to the books unfortunately. There was a lot of stuff that they added and a lot they removed, but overall I liked it. They finished it with a setup for a sequel (obviously) so there's undoubtedly more to come. If you liked the original books, I reccomend this to you with the understanding that it's not the same thing.

Sam Rockwell gives an awesome perfomance as Zaphod Beeblebrox, he really gets into the character and plays it up. I don't think Martin Freeman played Arthur as well as Simon Jones from the '81 BBC version (Mr. Jones actually had a cameo in the film, as well as the original Marvin the Robot, Wee!), but he was very good none the less. And Mos Def was a perfect Prefect (:P).

There was obviously a lot that was cut, undoubtedly for time, and even so it was a full 2 hours long (and 3 minutes) so I'm looking forward to a gargantuan DVD version that will be somewhat more accurate to the books.
Well that's my take on it.
Bottom line: Go see it. :D

Looks like fun. I doubt it will stay completely true to the books, and to expect that from a mainstream movie would be silly. But I do think I will enjoy a couple of hours watching this some time in the next month or so. :)

I don't think I'm going to enjoy this one. I love sci-fi movies too and this one looks like it could be funny in parts, but it doesn't look that good to me. :/

I enjoy the entire series, it was funny and pretty well written. The problem I see is that, from the previews they are trying to make it seem like an action movie. I really hope this isn't the case.

Have you seen the version of the trailer where they make fun of movie trailers in general? It's more indicative of Adams' humor, I love it. Oh yeah, I'm also a big fan. Got the omnibus as well. Very curious to see what they're going to do with the movie!

Read all 5 books (+ the short story) and am going to see the movie on friday with a couple of friends :) Douglas Adams was, in my opinion, a genius, so there's no way I could not go see it, even if they did modify the screenplay a bit from what he wrote.

I also don't really know if most people will really care for it. The whole "towel" thing and the Infinite Improbably Machine, that some pretty geeky stuff.
