Can anyone help me use a PNG in a skin? I'm having trouble with the transparency. _______________ Gladiators, I salute you. |

Wow. You're right - there are pngs. Thanks a lot for that info. Goodbye hated tga, hello beloved png! Uh...or do I still need the tgas for something? (I don't suppose there's mng support in there anywhere is there? Animated skins ahoy!) |

assets1.pk3 > models/players/jedi_hm - there are png files located in this directory in your base folder. |

JKA definitely uses PNG. The majority of the textures in basejka are in either PNG or JPG format. _______________ Saving the world, one kilobyte at a time. |

I don't think JA uses png either. I think you need 32 bit TGAs for transparency here. Photoshop can do it either by itself or with a plugin. Paint Shop Pro will only save 32 bit TGAs if you make the alpha channel with masking. But I just make a transparent PNG in PSP and then import it to Freehand then export it as TGA so if you want to send me some PNGs with alpha channels (ie 32 bit) I'll convert them for you. Not 1000s of them though hehe. |

IIRC to get decent transparency you need to start fiddling with shaders. Check out the textures and shaders Raven used on the Ragnos model for a sample. _______________ Saving the world, one kilobyte at a time. |

To change to 24-bit to 32-bit you might have to go to teh "image" tab at teh top. And you were talking about transparency. Are .PNG fiels teh only files in JKA that would allow transparency? So if i were to make a transparent skin- such as a jedi ghost, would that mean that i would have to use every files like "torso.jpg" (etc) and change them to like "torso.png"? _______________ Basic m**********r do you speak it? |

Photoshop CS also has problems with the transparency, it only shows one of the layers. Oddly enough, MSPaint does show both. _______________ Gladiators, I salute you. |

What program handles PNG files correctly for JA? I've tried Paint Shop Pro and it messes up the transparency. _______________ Gone but hopefully not forgotten... |

I've actually never used Photoshop. It'll be under the Save As... dialog though, probably under Options or Advanced or something like that once you set the format to PNG. _______________ Saving the world, one kilobyte at a time. |

Can you explain to me how to do that with Photoshop tarp? Can't seem to figure out how. _______________ Gladiators, I salute you. |

It's color depth. Save the file again in 24- or 32-bit color. _______________ Saving the world, one kilobyte at a time. |

Ooh, since it's talking about bits, maybe it could be something to do with the size. |

I really haven't used ModView before, nor had much too much experience skinning, so I'm quite out of ideas. I know you probably know of this already, but there's a ModView tutorial at JK2files. |

Are the width and height both a power of 2? |

Yeah, Academy allows PNG, the custom model textures are almost all png, its what allows you to change the color of their clothing. Their skin files still all end in .tga though so thats not it. The error I get when I try to put it in ModView says: Error parsing models/players/jedi_hm/jacket_arms.png; Image is not 24 or 32 bit. _______________ Gladiators, I salute you. |

I don't know if Jedi Academy will allow you to use PNG files. Anyway, try editing the .skin file and changing the ending of each line from .tga to .png, excluding the lines which include something along the lines of 'Stormtrooper/caps' in them. |
