Looking for advice... | |
 - Student |
Hey everyone, i'm looking for advice concerning an interview in a few days, but let me give y'all a back-story first. Basically, about a month ago, I applied for the British Royal Navy. I did the aptitude test, and passed. This coming Wednesday morning I have to go for a formal interview and a medical, both of which decide whether or not i'm accepted, so it's a pretty big deal to me. Anyway, I haven't had a job interview for over a year, and i'm pretty nervous. Does anyone have any tips or suggestions about how I can prepare for this? Thanks. ![]() |

Yeah, what Smily said. ![]() _______________ For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. Rom. 1:16 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. Rom. 10:17 I love my babyface. Mike just tell them your Vincent Kennedy McMahon and if they dont hire you say, YOOOOOOOOURRRR FIIIIRRREEEEDDD!!!! Get out of my ring dammit!!! GEEET OUT!!! in a raspy voice. ![]() hehe But in all seriousness, i went to a job agency in white plains near me, and they gave me some advice for interviews. For one, think of all the possible things they can ask you as best as you can. Then with each of these questions, you want to come up with answers that will make them see your good characteristics. Like letting them know you work out daily and are in great shape, etc. You basically have to sell yourself to them. Make sure you are confident in your answers, make good eye contact, and have positive body language. ![]() I know you will do fine! ![]() GL mikiiizzzllee! ![]() _______________ RIP MOM 06/29/58-07/31/08 Married to Koyi Donita 4/30/11 |

What you need to do is grab the interviewer by the lapels, shove him up against the wall and get right up in his face screaming at him, "Listen to me you piece of ****, you gimme this ****ing job or I will kick your can clear across the country!" Maybe not. Seriously, though, I've done more job interviews than I can possibly remember. A job interview is a test of character. Don't be shy, but don't be so eager to have something to say that you trip over your own tongue. An interviewer is looking for someone who is competent, yes, but also someone who is honest and forthright. You say you've already passed a test, so this isn't a test of your intellect but an assessment of whether they think you're a good fit in other respects. Answer the questions completely and honestly, but without gushing to have a lot to say, and don't be afraid to say "I don't know" if you don't know. Also, if they ask you about something, and you don't know what it is, ask them to tell you what it is. Eagerness to learn impresses interviewers. And remember everything that Mom told you when you were a kid, and if you've got a girlfriend get her to do the last-minute inspection because women notice all this stuff: Shoes polished, back pockets tucked in, tie straight, buttons buttoned, everything neatly pressed. Sit up straight. Don't fidget. Hands out of your pockets. Look the man in the eye when you speak to him or he speaks to you. Listen carefully and speak clearly. Enunciate. Sound like this is all very basic stuff? It is, but you'd probably be amazed how many people go into a job interview and screw this stuff up, so you go in and be the guy who gets it all right. Good luck! I'm sure you'll do well. _______________ My signature is only one line. You're welcome. |

Erm most of interviewing skills are logical i guess. You have to make sure that you are giving the interviewer what they want in an "employee". So what do they want? That depends ![]() Sometimes, being yourself, as in, what you are normally like wouldn't cut it. Because, if i did that i would be slouching in the interviewee chair and scratching myself at regular intervals. And my usual 30 sec. attention span wouldn't be too good either. So, sometimes, you can't be urself! Be focused and eager. you're bascially selling yourself (:/). Beforehand, think of your characteristics (intelligence, dependibility, job experience, education etc.) and how you can link them into benefits for the company. The interview is for finding out whether an applicant can "contribute" to the company. So make their job easier for em. Also, keep things professional is a good way to go, which means it's best to not cite stuff from your personal life but rather give examples from your prior work experience or your schooling. Basically, Listen carefully to the questions they ask you, because due to the nerves, its quite possible that you hear a question wrong and therefore answer it in a way you would have rather not answered it. Other than that, be yourself, relax, enjoy it and make sure you tell the truth about everything. I Hope it helps ![]() _______________ ~ Honor is a fool's prize. Glory is of no use to the dead ~ |

Don't tell them you can't swim, they will dislike it in the Navy ![]() More seriously before to go there try to think what do those people needs. After finding this, think about what you can give them to fullfill their needs. So you could someway "sell" your skills. Oh and a little bit working your body language will surely help.
