Episode III DVD/ISO on the Internet (non-warez, etc.)

Now, this is not a "hey, it's out there, here's the link, go get some." This is meant to simply be a discussion on the fact that, well, there are DVD ISOs out there for this already.

Yes, there are also low-quality 600 MB files. Most people have those things that I guess look worse than VHS.

Here's the article:
http://www.cinematical.com/2005/05/16/episode-iii-hits-bit-torrent/

I will not have people HERE talking about how to get ahold of this. Yes, I know it can be figured out. Yes, I know it can be found if one looks hard enough. And yes, I know it's out there.

I take no responsibility if someone follows this and finds the file and makes DVDs for themselves.

So here's what I think:

It really is about time that the industry recognizes this. I mean, the DVD was out on the 13th or so, apparently.

Yet, the movie broke the box office opening-day record, on a Thursday, no less, with $50 million. So it really did not hurt the industry.

This was a case where the DVD was out before the movie, and yet the movie made a ton of money already.

I agree that with home theatre systems that are internet-capable, it may only be a matter of time before theatres go the way of the drive-in theatres. Someone should capitalize on this idea, as I think there is money to be made.

I think this being on DVD is the fault, or because of, the ease and power of home theatre systems. Really, home theatres can readily match or beat the picture and sound quality of the theatres. And a lot of times, the guy running the movie is some high-schooler (no offense to all high scholers). I've been to many a movie where the picture is not right, or the sound is not right. I went to Phantom of the Opera, and there was NO SURROUND SOUND. All of it, from the front center speaker. I was pissed.

And I can see, where getting a quality that can easily be matched at home, where people want to watch these movies AT HOME. Even with the prices.

So back to this. It is a great movie. It is one that could readily shine on a home theatre, so I can understand why people want to watch it on the home theatre.

Now, that is not to say it is right to steal it at all. And more than likely, all sorts of official people are all over this one, so I would really say not to touch it at all. Besides it being wrong, this is just a wrong that has "high risk" written all over it. It's like me saying "Don't rob a bank, and ESPECIALLY don't rob the bank that has a squad of armed marines in the lobby."

So bottom line: don't steal movies, and ESPECIALLY don't steal Episode III. Just, well, "I have a bad feeling about this."

Disclaimer: if any staff have difficulties with this post, or if the discussion leads to things that are not allowed, contact me and lock this. I will likely request deletion myself if the discussion leads to how to get the file. I just thought it discussion-worthy.

You did read my link right? Where a director is planning to do exactly that.

It is, sometimes, the moviegoing expereince that keeps people away. I can get to see movies in thatres for free, and even then, sometimes it is a waste of my time.

Simply because you have all sorts of things to contend with, like I said above, and inevitably the sound will sound like junk. I like how things sound at home, with the 5.1/6.1 setup.

There are preferences to both ways, but eventually, people will hold more preference to home theatres than to movie theatres. I'm just saying, that movie theatres used to have the great picture and great sound. Now one can get that at home. Eventually, it will be even more so.

And yes, I know of PPV and Video-on-Demand. VOD is something that people love, it's a movie being played from the servers, usually requiring a modern box from the cable company, like a DVR box (oh, and satellite can't do VOD, since satellite obviously sucks at internet speed inherently, hard to play video from the servers). I'm just thinking that it will be less and less time between movie release and when it shows up on services like this. And PPV is already moving to a "buy and record" option for DVR boxes. Saves it strictly to the DVR box.

I'm just thinking of the dates getting closer and closer, and I really do think there will be a day where you can go to the theatre opening day or watch it on your home theatre. I think that day will get here.

I do not believe movie theaters will go away. When one goes to the theater he's not just paying to see a film but for the whole moviegoing experience. And Star Wars needs to be experienced on a giant screen.

... perhaps, but then the cinemas are dead meat once people get 300 inch tv's in their houses. :>

An iVideo? Yes, in the very near future. In fact, it's here: Pay-per-view and Tivo.

Agreed. Stealing is stealing. I'm just pointing out how well Episode III did, and I think that with things like this, the industry may have to rethink their approach.

I'm more making commentary on the thought of movie theatres eventually going the way of the dodo.

Really, think about it: Napster allowed us to get mp3s for free, and in good quality. This grew and grew, and then we have iTunes service, where you pay .99 a song and you can put it to the iPod.

I use iTunes to support the idea. Yes, I can get them for free.

Does one think that there will be an iVideo in the future? I mean, hrm...$5 a pop to watch it on your internet capable home theatre system? Better than the movie theatre, but still watchable. It couldn't HURT the current situation. Even if only 20% of those that steal movies convert to just dropping the $5 a pop to watch it at home (whether saved strictly to their DVR or what), the industry would still make something. Same way they are dealing with mp3 theft.

Just a commentary. And my only bash, I just find it very amusing that the DVD ISO was on the internet before the movie was in the theatres. Good one.

I think our society needs to rethink some of how we protect intellectual property. I do think property rights, intellectual and otherwise, should be strongly protected, and of course we should all respect the laws as they currently exist. But I think it might be time for our lawmakers to look at some other possibilities.

Bootleg copies do hurt ticket sales. No, they don't make much of a difference when opening day sells in the tens of millions, but rationalizing it on that basis is just saying that it's okay to steal ten dollars because it's not like stealing a million. It's not okay to steal ten dollars.
