It's hard to say... I would make a guess that Obi-Wan has had more experience fighting with a lightsaber due to the Clone Wars (though Jedi Knight Qui-Gon has probably had more experience in other Jedi stuff than Jedi Master (not Knight or Padawn) Obi-Wan). I think Jedi Master Obi-Wan might have defeated Darth Maul easier, possibly by himself, as well again due to his Clone War experiences, and that he has much experience fighting Sith because of this (he even goes so far as to claim they are his 'speciality'). I would say that Jedi Knight Obi-Wan might possibly win, and that Jedi Master Obi-Wan would most likely win. I wish Qui-Gon had lasted longer - he was one of my favourite Ep. I-III characters. it would be a very cool fight to see, master vs apprentice(umm epi 3 lol) i think they would be evenly matched at the time of epi 3 if qui gon did not die. qui gons style and experience and obi wans energy and speed would make them even. |

Aye, if Qui-gon had lived, remember that he'd be better as well, also being in battles of the Clone Wars. No doubt that he would have been much better as well. So pretty much you'd have to take 3 things into acount: 1. What stages in their experience are both of them? 2. Why are they fighting? If one of them has more of a reason to win, that passion might give them the upper hand. 3. Where are they fighting? The terrain and climate will effect the fight and their abilities allot. (Ex. Small rock in the middle of lava vs a giant freezing tundra with snow effecting visibility.) Qui-gon is as good as he was in episode 1, or Obiwan is much better than he was in episode one... Great Points about Obi-Wan Darth Carvous. If you look in the final duel in Ep III with Anakin you can see that Obi-Wan is on defense almost if not the entire fight. Until the end where Anakin messes up and Obi-Wan finally see his opening. Where as Qui-Gon in TDOF, attacked Darth Maul alot. And when he had to defend, well we all know what happened. Had he lived, I think a fight between the 2 would be a great site. But I still think that Obi-Wan would win. Kenyon brings up a good point and I will too once I finish discussing his. Let us not forget that Obi-Wan is now also a Jedi Master and has had extensive training in the field. Along the same lines, we mustn't forget that Qui-Gon has been a Jedi Master long enough to have three Padawans. It's safe to assume that, in this time, has has acquired much experience in his field. Having said that, I think Obi-Wan would win (which saddens me somewhat because I have much love for Qui-Gon). The reason is as follows: Qui-Gon studied a stylized form of lightsaber dueling which relied upon the Force to bolster your abilities. Obi-Wan, too, followed this style (as is to be expected in a Master-Padawan relationship). However, seeing his master cut down by Darth Maul led Obi-Wan to adjust his form to a more defensive style than Qui-Gon's so that he would never suffer the same fate. Because of this, Qui-Gon's knowledge of his stance and, supposedly, Obi-Wan's is not a factor as Obi-Wan's focus has gone into a stance that Qui-Gon had not mastered. That this stance is one focusing more on defense than offense, I believe it is safe to assume that Obi-Wan might be able to defeat his Master. However, in light of this information, we must also consider that Qui-Gon's style relies heavily upon the Force to bolster his physical abilities (sidenote: it is the same style which Yoda uses). This will give him a strong advantage over Qui-Gon's defensive stance. Blocking hits is all well and good, but how well can you block them when they overpower you or take you down with an attack you never saw coming? Take a look at Obi-Wan dueling with Dooku in Attack of the Clones. He blocked Dooku's attack, but Dooku was still able to overpower him (even though he is over twice Obi-Wan's age). In conclusion, the only reason I believe Obi-Wan would come out on top is simply because he is renowned as being one of the most skillful of the Jedi Knights, hence choosing him to go on a mission to confront General Grievous -- the murderer of many Jedi. This is also the only reason Obi-Wan was able to stand up to Anakin -- a Jedi with Force power surpassing Yoda's (this information is canon) that has tapped into the rage of the Dark Side. _______________ © |
