Ok I'm guilty of not having gone back to the old episodes to see if this is true or not, but in the original episodes (4, 5, 6) the lightsaber blades seem to be totally straight (perhaps narrowing slightly towards the end), with a rounded end. With Ep. 3 just out on the giant cinema screen, I noticed the lightsabers seem to have a more pointed end, and bulge slightly at the base (like a piece of turned wood used for table legs, you know?). That I noticed on Anakins lightsaber (you get a good close-up of it being held still, so not blury) when he first finds out Chancellor Palpatine is Darth Sideous. It is the same saber given to Luke in A New Hope, and he holds it rather still at Obi-Wan's house on tatooine, so I will try to make a comparison there. I know the lightsabers have blade-length adjusters, but that is all I know. This post was edited by Matsky on Jun 13 2005 06:53am. |

It's as simple as this: Special effects are better today, therefore the blade in Episode 4 looks different from the blade in Episode 3. _______________ In the navy and LOVING it!

Not really anything to do with the movies, but I've read in the Jedi Apprentice book series that they had sabers shaped in the form of whips, a laser whip if you will. A bounty hunter used it against the Jedi. _______________ Brother to Luke Skywalker and (SKX) Dark Blade

I was watching EP4 last night and noticed that in my version (video tape 3 pack released before the last one) Anakin's old saber was pretty much white. Another funny note is, during the battle between Vader and Obi-Wan you can see when Obi-Wan strikes Vader's blade Obi's bends almost completely around Vader's. I'm sure the blade they used in the take broke but they kept it anyway!  _______________ Honor those better than you would yourself. |

Perhaps the colour change could be due to the lighting, seeing as it is a light-type blade. Who knows. But the shape has definately changed, and I think that Ep. 1-3, the sabres don't 'glow' as much as they do in the others? Anyway the actual blade itself is more defined, and does look more pointed and shaped to be thicker at the base than the straight, slightly narrowing, rounded-tip saber in the others. |

Lucas just has no respect for consistency. In the Falcon Luke's saber looks GREEN for a moment in episode iv. The rest of the time in there it looks almost completely white. By Empire its blue again. And they are right about the pointy sabers in the prequels. I would say its simply because the special effects technology allows them to show sharper blades. its faded because it has not been used for several years and im sure Obi Wan has tweeked with it some. But the saber change is mainly due to the fact that the original trilogys were made with older technology.  _______________ The Force is my ally, and a powerful ally it is. i say u are right and that the blu has either faded on anakins saber when lukes gets it because in ep3 its a strong blu and in ep4 its like a teal/cyan color...look at some pics ep4 saber ep3 saber if u look close enough at the 2nd pic at the lightsabers then u will see its pointed...kinda _______________ (\__/) (O.o ) (> < ) This is Bunny.
