i used to have one almost exactly like this one. had a removable stock so you could have the lightweight extened stock, or go ghetto and rock it from the hip :D

but that was like close to 20 years ago. i remember them being called "soft-air" guns. shot plastic pellets that looked like large BB's. had plastic "casings" that the pellets went into and the casings ejected from the gun when you fired it. it was pretty cool, i don't remember it costing $285 though!?! it had to have been less than $80 (or is that normal inflation? :P), i think we got it at Bass Pro of all places. was made of metal mostly, but the front cocking mechanism was plastic. made for sweet times playing "war." horribly inaccurate though, not any fun for target practice. oh and that was the good old days before everything had to have red or orange tips on it so the cops wouldn't shoot ya! :P

kinda curious if these things are close to what i used to have at all.

by the way, this kind of stuff should go in general discussion. :)
