OK, this has been on my mind since I first saw episode 3... In Episode 6, Yoda says to Luke that he should "never underestimate the powers of the Emperor", or suffer his father's faith he will. Now that I've seen episode 3, I've gotten confirmation that he (Anakin) in fact does underestimate Palpatine's power. Here's my interpretation. *** SPOILER ALERT!!!!! *** When Anakin enters Palpatine's chambers, he sees Palpatine use Force lightning on Mace Windu. Mace deflects it, thus morphing Palpatine's face. Now here's what I think happened: Palpatine thought out this plan to get Anakin to kill Mace while he used lightning. He stopped using the lightning, knowing that Mace would try to kill him, even though he probably could've kept up his Force lightning for a while longer. Anakin thought Palpatine was in deep poop, thus underestimating his power, and attacked Mace Windu. However, Anakin overestimates Palpatine's power, too! Palpatine clearly implies that he knows how to cheat death, but he really doesn't. So I guess the fact that Anakin both overestimated and underestimated Palpatine made him fall to the Dark Side. Now...to quote the wisest jedi in Star Wars history: A thought? Hmmm? Anyone?  EDIT: How do you think the arrest of Palptine would've turned out if Mace let Anakin tag along? _______________ In the navy and LOVING it!

IMO, I agree with your idea of Palpatine bluffing that he "can't hold it any longer" ... I mean, just look how he reacts when mace has his hands removed by Annie. I think it sucked that Aaya Secura (spelling?) didn't even get her saber lit b4 she took 5 shots in the back. I was also hoping to see some of Adi Gillia's Reverse Grip style I have heard about. I agree not only yoda was stupid, but the jedi as a whole. 1. When they went to arrest palpatine they should have took like the entire council and like 10 others so they could just anihalate him. 2. They played their cards in the exact opposite way they should have with anakin. By holding him back, they turned him to the dark side. Had they not shown any hesitation by telling him he was the chosen one and letting him be a full fledged council member, he probably would have stayed good. 3. WTF is with 5 or 6 clones being able to take out a jedi!?!?!?!??!!? I mean seriously, not one of them could fend off a few clones? Not even any of the masters or council members could. Well Sidious is extrememly powerful in the force.That much is apparent. I think Sidious's apower of perssuasion and his ability of stradegy are VERY good. Is he more powerful then Yoda? In my oppinion, NO. I think Yoda is refering to the Emperor's power of persuasion. Anakin has good intentions(peace in the galaxy and saving his family) but is still seduced by the dark side. The lure of saving life and the appearance of a Jedi trying to assasinate the Emperor were the keys to his fall. _______________ Honor those better than you would yourself. |
