It's not that hard to make a sphere using patch meshes O.o

I'd do it by adapting this technique here:

http://www.darthg.com/richdiesal/tutorials/cu201lsn1.html

Just make sure you flip the textured side :P

just checking, u are actually trying to make a reasonablly sized sphere right? Patch meshes aren't too wonderful when they are small, espcially spheres Oo

Bah, I hate patch meshes. I would recommend doing it like a sculptor - cut away a plane at a time until you have a spherish kind of thing with a decent number of faces.

The sphere tool in radiant doesn't make actual spheres. It simply cuts a brush to be *close* to the shape of a sphere. Problem is, anytime you let radiant cut a brush up it's own way, you run the risk of it making that brush REALLLLLLLLY buggy. And by "run the risk" I mean "almost guaruntee". Sounds like what your describing is a brush problem where radiant doesn't know where to draw the edges of the brush. So it just makes them outside the bounds of the maximum map size. Which doesn't work. Just mess around with it, try creating it different ways. When you get sick of that, you can try what I do, which is to cut the brush manually. This can also often lead to buggy brushes, so save often when you know it's ok. Or, if you want a more perfect sphere you can make it out of patch meshes. This will most likely eat your FPS on lower end machines, but will also give a better looking curved shape. Refer to Rishdiesals mapping tutorial and the section on making domes, that gives a rough idea of how to do it this way.
