As far as I remember, the weather is gonna get messed up en masse when the poles switch place, so why worry about global heating. :P

That's a story you hear lots, yes. But in fact that'd be quite odd as the temperature is rising 300% faster than it ought to do when you come out of an ice age. It might be true that that's a part of it but let's be honost: more Co2 in orbit = more kept warmth = global warming.

isn't that the point? We don't know what should be happening since weather records only go back 350 years. So when they say dryest/wettest/hottest wahtever since records began - it means nothing. We don't really have any idea what is going to happen, and to think we can stop global warming, which is a natural process is about as likely as the sun not comming up tomorrow morning.
The question is how do we adapt to new conditions?

When Mars stops warming up and we continue to heat, I'll believe that we could be having anything more than an insignificant amount to global warming.

So tell those martians to stop driving SUVs, and to jump.

I know this is not a scientificly correct way to put earth again humans as we are on earth, but I think this demo's the littleness of us clearly enough.

Actually, that's a fairly accurate representation of what we're worth against the Earth's inertia.

One thing the proponents of this idea don't seem to have thought of: if we assume that humans are spread out in a relatively uniform fashion over the Earth's surface, if they all jump and land at the same time, the force from each of them will all cancel out. :D

Maybe they're assuming that Americans will jump and Africans, who don't have Internet and thus haven't heard of this, won't.

Thad'd make it even work better as relatively Americans are like twice as heavy as Africans :P

my opinion instead of trying to get everyone to jump through interent ( even if the theory is correct it is way to wild for anyone to believe over the internet) they should go around gathering up a bunch of poor people and stuff like that and basicly pay them to all jump at teh same times. so what that will be no more than a billion dollars to reset the whole course of Earth's orbit? I mean there are projects where way more money is spent on by the US government.

Now let's see how much all people on earth weigh compared to earth itself.
Let's say there currently are 6.5 billion people (we're closer to 6.1 I believe, but in this case better over than under). Now let's say the average earthling ways 75 kg (this again is more than actual I think).
That'd mean that the weight of all people would be:
(6.5*10^9)*70kg = 4.55*10^11 kg.

Earth ways according to Wikipedia around 6,000 yottagrams which is 6,000*10^24 kg.

Now let's use the formula used for percentages which makes (4.55*10^11 kg * 100)/(6,000*10^24)= 7.583 / 10^12

That written out would make 0.000000000007583 %
So that number would be the percentage of weight, compared to earth, humans actually cause if they'd all jump at the very same spot... It is quite unlikely it'll shift the earth :P

ps: Yeah, I was bored... :P

edit:// I know this is not a scientificly correct way to put earth again humans as we are on earth, but I think this demo's the littleness of us clearly enough.

You of course have been out of an ice age before and know how fast it is to occur. Isn't it changing like just barely 1°C per 100 years.

Very funny, I base my post on research of elder groundlayers in which they found biological and geographycal evidence that the heating has gone extremely slow during other heating and cooling down sessions. Currently we are way too speedy.

Got it?

Edit:// Now I re-read my first post I could have just replaced the second 'you' with 'the world'...

Erm, you are aware that:

A. This is implausible. Not only is it impossile to even organize everyone to simultaneously jump at once it also will most likely not be a powerful enough effect to nudge the Earth into any direction let alone a new orbit.

B. If the Earth did move into a new orbit global warming would be the least of our problems. If you have taken any sort of astronomy then you should know that the Earth is pretty much perfect were it is. If it was not for the current orbit we circle and for the Moon giving us a tilt on our axis then life itself would not exist. We would have frozen oceans during the winter and a scorched desert during the summer. Also, if this did work (which it most certainly would not), there is no guarantee the Earth would even get a new orbit. It could end up on a gravitational pull towards another planet (Mars probably) or even get pulled in to the sun. Also the Moon would fly of it's own orbit with us and that would screw up our axis (killing everything), screw up our atmosphere (killing everything) and stop waves in the oceans (killing everything).

Haha, yeah, I've heard of it, not going to happen though. You'd need a much more powerful force than 100 billion people all jumping at once, especially considering we're all over the globe. If everyone on the planet jumped at once, and by some miracle it was enough to move the planet, it wouldn't go anywhere since half of the world is "pushing" in the opposite direction as the other half.
