People at work have been telling me that within a week gas prices in Michigan will be over 3.00/gallon USD. Many of my friends who are just students and working like 10 hours a week, have pretty much given up on ever leaving the city they go to college in. My friend just got married so when I drove to his wedding it cost me over $60.00 for gas thier and back. Are more people here driving less? Riding thier bike or walking places? I think the point was made that the prices just are not hitting the levels that everyone is freaking out about what they would be. No $4 or $5 a gallon. An additional tip I saw....try to pay in cash. The gas stations have to pay to process the CC payments, so it lowers their profit margins, and they need to raise the price then. I can understand using a Credit Card when you pump in $30 of gas. Really, if you are doing $20 or less, try going with cash if you can. They get better margins on the profit, and don't need to raise the price of gas overall. All the "pay at the pump" or "speedpass" things cost theim money to run, and that cost is passed onto us in the form of higher prices. Say no to that convinience, and the price may stay low or get lower. _______________ Jedi do not fight for peace. That's only a slogan, and is as misleading as slogans always are. In the USA they dont have a national health serive they have individual insurance i believe. Allright, so what if 38,3% of the gasprice is taxes? We still pay IT! it's still money! you get a certain amount of fuel with it, and you don't really care where the money goes, as long as you get that amount of fuel in exchange.. So it's WAY cheaper to live in the US and own a car, than it is in Europe.. I used to live in the US until 1991; I can't remember exactly how much gas was back then but it was definitely never more than a dollar a gallon. I'm in New York, and some of the places hear are at $3.80 a gallon! I drive with my mom to work, but I still have to pay for half of the gas she puts in the car. It's ridiculous what these people are doing...All because of the hurrican!? Well her its about 96p from about 79p or whatever it was at the begining of the year. The prices might bring another fuel strike to Britain like a few years ago. Everywhere will have no fuel and the government will take all the remaining and put it somewhere... |

That's estimated though too. State taxes fluctuate from state to state. Some states I believe even have a ridiculous floating tax where as the price of gas increases they increase the tax on it in order to keep getting money; their theory being that rising prices in gas means that fewer people will buy gas. The price of crude is the big hit. Here is some data (I did some searching couldn't find much of anything else to compare it to, though I'm sure I just didnt look hard enough) it seems fairly reliable. http://www.energy.ca.gov/gasoline/margins/ Distribution Costs, Marketing Costs and Profits $0.05 Crude Oil Cost $1.53 Refinery Cost and Profits $0.65 State and Local Sales Tax $0.21 State Excise Tax $0.18 Federal Excise Tax $0.15 Retail prices $2.77 So in the US the only difference should only be the state tax and profits right? Which means that in MI when gas was over $3.00 a gallon at that time, most likely my state has higher taxes on this. The Finnish Parlament is currently debating on cutting taxes from gas prices, not completely, but still lowering it majorly.. We have around the same price as the Netherlands so that's 7USD/Gallon or something.. Since when has driving been something for only the rich and wealthy people? With how the cities of today are built, you NEED a car no matter what.. At times like theese, I really hope I would've lived my primetime (18-30) in the 80's and 90's.. Good point, gas prices in Europe are sky-high and still rising. Over here in Holland driving a car is really getting ridiculously expensive. Good thing that students dont ahve to pay much for public transport |

If you think gas prices in the US are high, you should really come to Norway! Over here it costs you about 10 NOK for one litre of gasoline. Gas price per litre in Norway: ~10 NOK (it's more often that not higher than that) 1 gallon = 3.785411784 litres 1 gallon would therefore cost you 37.85411784 NOK. 37.85411784 NOK = 6.093904801 USD To sum it all up: We pay about 6 USD for 1 gallon of gasoline here, so stop whining, Americans! At least high gas prices are good for the environment (I mean, if people drive less because of them). _______________ In the navy and LOVING it!
