Well first of all id like to wish the best of luck to Tido in building his pc  I've also decided to build a new PC as my current one seems to have lost alot of its speed from re-formating the hard drive too much. Problem is i cant salvage any of the parts for my new one because its still my families PC and i dont work for anywhere i could get free hardware :/At the moment im thinking of a budget of around £600 ($1100 US) which i want to use to make a pretty powerful PC out of. Of course all the top of the line SLi and dual cpu stuff is way out of my reach. It will probably be a very similar PC to Tidos. Ok anyway heres my current plan. Id like to thank solitude alot for helping me pick some of these things. Remember i picked out these parts with a little knowledge of what i was doing and i havent showed my latest plan to anyone yet, im sure alot of it will change. If ive missed anything out or if you have better suggestions please help ^_^ alot of the parts im buying come with warranty so i think ill sign up for alot of that. I've looked on Newegg a few times before and im definatly sure they dont deliver to the UK. They are setting up a UK division sometime soon acording to some sites but not in time. Anyway ive found what i think is the best deal i can find. Used Froogle for the first time and its actually pretty useful. Well now I've bought all the components that pretty much cant go wrong. I kinda got the urge to spend more than i should have though with sound systems and gaming ram tempting me...but i got it all for really good prices. Anyway! about £400 left to buy and its all the essential equipment: CPU, mobo, hdd and graphics card. Im gonna definatly have it made before xmas and what i have soo far looks great! Im ordering the CPU, mobo and hdd from Dabs because theyre the cheapest i can find. I also was gonna buy an Gigabyte Nvidia 6800 256mb PCI-E graphics card from there to which was an amazing deal but unfortunatly they discountinued it recently. It was gonna cost £138 and i cant find anywhere which can come close to that price. Searched for soo long on Google. Can you guys please help me find one thats no more than £150ish? I dont mind if it isnt Gigabyte (though they are good) just make sure it isnt value or something  |

Well i've just been told the money i was meant to recieve isnt coming anymore. I have about £230 and im also selling some of my oldish games on ebay (not gonna sell anything valuable to me) which could get me at least over £50 id say maybe £70. Well im gonna get a job so i can pay for the rest which might take about 2 months if i dont spend much of it while im saving. So it wont set me back to far on schedule. I dont want to risk buying all the parts seperatly just incase they dont work and i have to return them. Hopefully some prices will have dropped by then and i wont have to work as hard Ill keep you all updated when i have my money |

Can someone explain just incase i decide on another processor? >_< basically, even at a lower clockspeed, amd processors are capable of more calculations a second. so amd adopted an equivical numbering system, with 3500+ being comparable to an intel 3500 mhz plus. or 3.5 ghz processor. after this, intel decided to adopt a system which uses a 3 digit speed indicator, wtih 660 > 430 for example, but this has little meaning. you need to compare the clock speed of the intel vs the scaled up amd one (which is done accurately). I didnt notice that one. Thanks for finding it Only £6 more, dont think ill get a second hand one, who knows whats been on it... Also i was wondering if someone could actually explain the clock speed of AMD processors. I know its a really stupid question but what exactly is the equivalent of say and AMD 64 3500 to a Pentium processor. I know its 2.2Ghz but AMD make it better and more complicated somehow. Ok, I know it will work with a 350w PSU but i really dont wanna risk it especially when soo many people are telling me not to risk it Ive managed to save some money by buying a "Gigabyte" version of the same gfx card so i thought id replace it with a cheap yet reliable 500w PSU. That way theres absolutly no way it can go wrong. It also includes two fans in this model and is supposed to be low noised. New Gfx card (same specs) GeForce 6800 256MB PCI-E DVI-I £145.99 New PSU: Ebuyer Blue 500w Dual fan PSU £10.57 I'm still looking round for cheaper prices and im sure ill be able to bring down my total. |

Well i first of all looked up the reliability of I-cute PSUs and alot of people seem to like them and i used a wattage caluclator which gives you a rough estimate of how big PSU you'll need. It worked out that i need a wattage 277w minimum to work my system. I also added alot of other options i wont be getting for my pc that take up alot of wattage and it reached about 302. So even if i got a top of the range PC with an AMD 64 FX processor i could still run it on a 350w PSU. I'm sure everything will run ok on it and also upgrades in the future but ill check them first. I was thinking about getting another cpu but the site im using supplies the fan and heat sink with them for a good price. the next one down is only £20 cheaper and the 3000 is another £20 cheaper. I think ill stick to the cpu im using  |

350W should be OK, but I, personally, would play it on the safe side and get a 400W if you can. But better a solid 350 than a dodgy 400 IMO. _______________ Website |

You also could probably stand to dial down your processor just a tab if you're still over budget. 350w *should* be fine for what you're building but the hairs on my neck stand up at the mentioning of iffy PSUs . |

Yea i could really tell what PSU it has. the specs on that site are very vague and it just said 400w. You cant even see a picture of it and in the past that usually ends up me not getting what i ordered. I also dont really like the look of that case and it comes with no chasis fans at all... Anyway i found another one which i like the look of alot and it comes with the PSU and 3 fans. Ive also bought stuff from this company before so i know they can be trusted. Only problem is that the PSU is only 350w like alot of cases are atm, but a saving of over £60 is great. Im pretty sure i could rely on a 350w PSU because none of my components are top of the line. Ive checked what they require aswell and i see no problems...except the name of the case. I-CUTE Gaming Case with 350w PSU Gallery Includes the PSU £35.24 Also i found a cheaper power cord. Saving of 69p EDIT: Also solitude has found me a better mobo which is 2000mhz and at a great price! I think this is a definate. Ok i finally found a cheap case provided with a 400w PSU. All of them seem to be 300w...but i found one! which looks alright too! http://www.savastore.com/productinfo/product.aspx?catalog_name=Savastore&product_id=10281734&pid=207 Thats ones in silver but they provide a black one aswell which a picture isnt provided for but it come with the PSU! can someone tell me if this will do? Also i found this motherboard http://www.savastore.com/productinfo/product.aspx?catalog_name=Savastore&product_id=10278401&pid=207&rstrat=3130 Its quite a bit cheaper and is very similar to the other one. Yea i was wondering about not getting a floppy and i wasnt certain about the case because its very costly. I can rip a floppy disk out of our win 95 pc if i really need one but i can always send a file to this one if i need it. I do like the look of the case but i dont want it to make me go over budget....Speaking of budget i know i said £600 but thats only appoximatly i could go up to about £700 maximum but id rather try and get everything cheaper. |

Since your overbudget, you might want to consider getting a case that has a PSU already in it. The con is it might not be the greatest PSU but there are lots of people who go this route and never have an issue. Also since you're not going to be loading any RAID drivers, you won't need that floppy. |
