I was suprised to come to the site and see nothing about the hurricane. If there is something somewhere else let me know, I think, we as a community need to come together, and do something for the hurricane. Some kind of donation processes. It would look good for the Academy, it would show the public that gamers aren't all lazy/bad losers, and most importantly, it would help out the ppl in New Orleans/other towns greatly. What do you people think? If we could get something like what bungie's doing, that would be awesome. They are selling a halo related t-shirt, that also goes along with the situation, for 19.95. $15 goes directly to the Red Cross, the rest goes to the cost of actually making the shirt. No ones making a dime. I dunno how we as a relativly small community can help, but I really believe we should. I think, never before has our exsistance been so important, we can make a difference. Viva La Academia!, but more importantly, Viva La Katrina survivors!! -Dice _______________ Dicemaster |

So far though the only ones that have really done any corrections is the federal government. Bush actually removed the inept head of FEMA from his role, and hopefully he'll get fired. You've still got the Mayor of NOLA and the governor of Louisiana, who prevented the red cross and salvation army from going to the superdome and convention centers in NOLA. That along with the governor saying she wouldn't have the resources under her(The National Guard) helping with the now mandatory evacuation of New Orleans. And both of your numbers are wrong on that. Horrible things happen all over the world and they happen all the time. The United States may be the richest country in the world but that doesn't mean much when 90% of the riches are in the hands of the 10% of the people. You can be sure that those top 10% are giving money, up to the maximum tax deductible amount. I am an American and as such I know the responsibility of being such. Even though I live from paycheck to paycheck and drive a $1500 dented up car to and from work. I buy lunch occasionally and once in a while take my kid to see a movie I was able to kick $50 to the Red Cross. Not out of guilt, not because of the destruction in the gulf coast, not to feed empoverished children, not to get medicine to dying people in africa. I did it because I could and the Katrina disaster reminded me I should. Even if it means that my family doesn't get to go to Black Angus but stays home and eats Macaroni and Cheese and hot dogs. That is what being an American is about. Kensei - your proportion is actually perspective Your perspective is that of someone who does not open thier eyes. Sorry but you are blinded by your opinion of America and not the way it actually is here. The American Government, and by association the American People inject billions of dollars into the economies of nearly every nation on the globe. We do this in the form of trade, tourism and aid. For our money we expect little in return, we expect fair trade, safe passage and the continued "pursuit of happiness" for the people that would gladly do business with Americans. For those that won't well to each their own. If anyone asked you for money for relief of the victims of Hurricane Katrina they were asking for the people that don't have anything anymore. These people aren't waiting for a goddamn insurance check, they have nothing. They experience worse conditions everyday they you can imagine in your worst dreams. Your response to which is "let Americans take care of Americans" I wish we could be so liberal when people are killed by nothing more than mother nature. Well we don't have that option, we can't just look away and say "well nothing we can do" cuz we can do something, so can you. When you choose not to do something leave it at that don't point out America as able to take care of itself, cuz this is about people of this world not just people of the greatest country on earth, you live here too and if your country was engulfed by natural disaster I would help without pointing out your governments shortcomings. _______________ “Arguing on the internet is like competing in the Special Olympics. Well remember a few things. New Orleans, despite being a big focus on everything is only a small area of the land devestated. The total area is something the size of kansas. And the state that took the really big hit is Mississippi, no Louisiana. Also, the person in charge of the evacuation of NOLA is currently the governor of LA. Bush has urged her to request federal takeover of the recovery efforts in NO. You know that would mean she's not doing a very good job. She's the one that's only deployed half of Louisiana's National Guard, and took her time in doing so. Its also not any easy thing to get people into a flooded area. Helicopters are about the only option. There were no runways cleared, that might have changed now, but it takes time, so no planes could land. Roads are still flooded so there are many areas unreachable by foot or by bus. Its also not donating money to America. Its donating money to charity groups that are out to help people who have lost everything. You want your proportion? Africa has 3 times the population of the US. The deaths there are about equal to deaths in the US proportionally. If your heart goes out to these people you shouldn't be trying to put it in perspective. _______________ When you are going through Hell, keep going. -Sir Winston Churchill. I'm going to be brief. My heart goes out to all who are mourning loss of family members, and to those who have been affected by Hurricane Katrina. The looting stuff is stupid. By all means, loot for food and water (i.e. for survival). But stealing electronics, jewlery and other items that are of no use at the moment is - well - unforgiveable at a time like this. You really don't need an XBox, 20 pairs of Nike's and a brand new gold necklace to survive, now do you? And what's up with shooting at rescue forces? And raping? Raping of CHILDREN? That's just not acceptable, whatever the circumstances, especially in a first world country. However, I do not see the need for donating money to America - the richest nation on Earth and the world's only current super-power should be able to take care of itself in that regard. However, moral support is always a good thing. There should have been much better measures in place to deal with an event like this beforehand. Its not hard to notice that somewhere below sea-level, on a coast, and in an ideal position for hurricanes would suffer something like this sooner or later. Funny how Iraq could be 'taken' in three weeks, but its taken nearly a week to make much of a difference in New Orleans - and that's a lot closer than Iraq. Now, not trying to detract from the suffering, but maybe it'd be nice to have as much enthusiasm or hot-necked debate and demanding about, say, Africa? Where there are more people dying in a week from starvation alone (and more than 3 times more from AIDS), than Katrina has killed thus far. Just putting it in proprtion. And, as I said at the top of this post, my heart goes out to all who have been affected. _______________ Website |

If you want to do something to help with the recovery, then go to a charity and donate. That's the fastest most efficient way for you to help. The American Red Cross, the Salvation Army, Catholic Charities. All of them are good groups to contribute money too. Even the humane society needs donations to help with rescuing animals. Its out there for you to help with. This is the same recommendations that we had for the tsunami. The reason I haven't said anything is that what is happening right now is devestating and showing that many of the affected areas were not prepared for this. From people placing blame on this to the president; claiming he didn't arrive on scene fast enough and also complaining about him being there at all, to those making accusations of racial discrimination; Jesse Jackson even complained that there aren't enough blacks in the top positions for relief aid, to the images of 250 flooded school busses in new orleans that the mayor did not think to utilize to remove people before the storm hit, to them later saying they need busses to evacuate people from the area, and even those pieces of filth down there that have shot at rescue helicopters. There's also that moronic German minister that said its Bush's fault because he didn't sign the Kyoto protocol, demonstrating that people who believe humans are the cause of global warming believe 6 months of following a garbage document can affect the weather. Its all sad, from the devestation, to the deaths, to the loss of homes, to the worthless scum that politicize this event. _______________ When you are going through Hell, keep going. -Sir Winston Churchill. Those who seek power and control of others, no matter the level, no matter the intentions, should never be given it. |
