ok. to be totaly honest i have no major reason of doing this post. but parkour has grown very close to my heart and has changed my life for the best. just thought id run over what parkour is with you guys. just for the hell of it =) ok. enjoy:

parkours basic meaning. (not a direct translation): to get to a - b without being contained or kept by a set path. so basicly. getting there quickly. by forming your own way to get there.

there are many meanings to parkour. some people do it for fun. some for proffesional reasons (adverts ect) some for exercise. and the list goes on. but the basic fundemental is getting from a to b as quickly and easily as possible. although harder than it seems as of the massive risk of hurting yourself. which is also the main reason people are hesitant to start doing it or have to avoid doing certain movments.

some people would say its the art of movment. meaning there would be no way to correctly do this. there are a set of 'movments' to help get over certain objects but most people who do this . would say there is no exactly right way to get over any object. as its all about personal preferance and how you move.

there are two main types of parkour. freestyle parkour. and what you could call "original" parkour. freestyle parkour is attemtping to add "flair" or style to the movments. such as spins. original is the fundemental reason with no fancy things. here to there.

if you need any more info i only touched the surface. im pretty sure plookoon does parkour so im sure il hear from him in this topic ;)

Pure Parkour would be the correct term.
Freestyle Parkour was basically made to stop the constant arguments of 'Flips aren't Parkour nub'.

Most people take the piss out of freestyle, cos its such a sh*tty name.

An example of the difference between Pure Parkour and FRPK would be that:
Some people like ice cream with some strawberry sauce on top(FRPK) and Others just like the ice cream with no sauce.

Parkour is named 'the art of movement' because of the Philosophy of it. best site to find that out is www.parkour.com

Should be 'getting from A-b in the most fluid and efficient way.

tbh. ive done karate. cappoera and a few bits of oher random fighting styles. and tbh. its takes just as much if not more focus while practicing. if your sparing youd wear contact pafs (on some occasions) and if you got a deck in the face you wouldnt get a massive cut or serious wound just aa "omg owie" and youd carry on. in parkour if you go for a vault over a rail. and this has happened to me. you get your foot caught as you come over. your going to go head first into solid concrete, its takes SO much disciplin and focus to manage.

ye but u said "tbh that didnt hurt" :o

I began learning parkour or free running, ever since I saw a video of a bunch of highly skilled martial arts experts running around doing some sweet flips off of some roofs.

My first goal in the process of learning to free run: To do the splits!

youd be suprised how handy it is and can be. its also said to be "the art of escape" if your getting chased by someone whow ants to steal all your money would youy run through a gate in a wall? no. you would go over it.

i totally agree :)
parkour does rock, and after a while of doing, you can feel the difference. your muscles become more refined, you become more focuses ect. its also great fun it do. Just hanging out with sum mates and doing sum vaults and jumps and stuff ^^ its good fun trust me :)
now this may sound weird (it does sound wierd*) but parkour has a spiritual side to it aswell, i wont bore you with all of it but it's kinda like when you learn a martial arts, if u know what i mean :P

If you ask me, I don't quite see the point. Yeah, challenging and whatever, but WHY!? It looks cool and stuff, but I'd never try it - for me that would constitute wasting time I could spend doing PHP code :P :D
