I recently made up a bunch of quick skins for the custom player. Now, I'm really confused as to how to get them to show up in-game.

I have three files, the png for the skin and the icon, and the .skin file. I put them in models\players\jedi_hm yet they didn't show up at all. I looked at some other skins that people have added and can't find what's different about their's and mine.

I just tweaked the original skins -added a little logo is all. So the size and depth shouldn't be the problem. In the .skin file I just changed the torso to the name of my torso.png.

Does anyone know what the problem is? Thanks for the help

One thing you may have to do, invert the colors on the selected region and then make it transparent.

Ok, so I'm using Adobe Photoshop 7.0, and I make the areas I want transparent. However, when I go to save, it won't let me save the alpha channels.

The checkbox is there, but it won't let me check it. Any clue as to why it's like this?

Thanks again

Of course, all image editors have different ways to do this. For GIMP, I tried a good bit of options and never got it to work. However, with MSN Picture it, it was a breeze to make the layers transparent and actually work in-game. Figuring out what to do with your respective image editor is the biggest part in this process.

To add to what R2D2 said:

The area to change colours shouldn't be white, it should be *transparent*. Transparency is usually done by selecting a single colour and designating that as the transparent colour, e.g. flat white. :P The recommended format for these transparent images is PNG, which Photoshop supports nicely, as far as I am told. When saving your image, you need to make sure it's set to save the alpha channel with the image (the alpha channel contains transparency data).

Yea, making them change colors is real tricky. You have to select a region to change colors and then make that region transparent, either by first making that region black and white and then making it transparent or just making it transparent and see what happens. Make sure your shader files are done correctly too. Then, in the menu.str file you have to give the options to allow different colors, if its a new species, which I think this is just a jaden add-on, but just fyi when you do :)

Ok, so I got the skins in the game. Now I have another small problem.

I tried setting up the skins so you can choose your desired color, like with the default vests and such. So, all I did was cut my logo out from the vests in the png files.
Now, when I try to use them, the parts I cut out will only work as white, no matter which color I use. (You can still see the texture on the cut out areas, it's not just plain flat white.)

I've done some editing with the character customization. Explaining exactly what you would need to do would take a while, therefore I will provide you with two very useful links that I used to aid me. :)

Feel free to IM me on MSN or AIM if you have any questions. It would be helpful to get all the details of what you have done and such. Like you, I learned how to set up a jaden add-on through good examples. :)
