Serenity-The movie | |

What do you guys think of the movie? For those that don't know, Sci-Fi started a new show this summer called Firefly. Serenity is a movie that takes place after the Firefly episodes. The same characters that appear in the show also appear in the movie. For me, this movie gave some clarification into the background of Firefly. The introduction of the crew and the ship didn't seem right, but gradually the movie reverted back to the series feel, one crew united behind its captain who has a great love for his ship and each member of his crew. The "villain" of this movie was a new character to the series but quite an astounding performance. There have been rumors of a trilogy, would be great ![]() _______________ "Do or do not, there is no try" Jedi Master Yoda Dual Saberist This post was edited by R2D2 on Oct 01 2005 06:13am. |

Definitely a great movie. I am a big fan of Whedon's dry humor. It just fills in so nicely, and if you enjoy the type of humor that harrison ford put into Han Solo, then you'll like this stuff. Whedon seems to be in that mode all the time. _______________ When you are going through Hell, keep going. -Sir Winston Churchill. not to be "that guy" that adds on to someone else's post, but here it goes... ![]() you're buddy Joss Whedon's buddy Marita Grabiak (her name comes up in relation with Angel, Buffy, and Firefly), is also involved in the new Battlestar Galactica, along with Michael Rymer (who i think is the primary director). another class act of sci-fi to add to the list. heck, i'd go so far as to say it's one of the best dramas on TV. i'll have to check out the firefly stuff as well, since i've not been turned on to it yet. seems like fun though ![]() _______________ this is the internet, be serious damn it! Hey R2, not to be "that guy" that corrects people, but I just wanted to point out a few things about Firefly. Joss Whedon created Buffy and Angel, both were successful series but like all TV shows, they eventually come to an end. Circa now to 2002 and he created this show for FOX. It aired 9 episodes during that span of time and it became one of those cult classic hits, like that of it's predecessors Buffy and Angel. Unfortunately, the big dogs at the top didn't think it was good and cancelled the show early. The fans that had gathered during the 9 episodes were irate and caused a big ruckus regarding it. These are the same fans that caused a ruckus for Buffy and ended up with all its support getting it back on tv for one more season, so they actually have a powerbase of sort. They released the DVD set of Firefly not too long ago, I want to say 2003 or 2004, but I'm not sure. The DVD sets sold like hotcakes, and it was then that Joss saw that people wanted more Firefly. He's been working on this movie for a while now, and it actually came out in April. Special screenings were given for "Browncoats" which was the name given to those firefly fanatics at select screens. This helped gauge how well it would do in the market etc and the number were extremely nice. For Friday, it was the world release or at least statewide for Serenity, the wrap-up movie for the show. You did not have to watch Firefly beforehand to jump in, but if you had, you grew the fondness for the characters and had an attachment there when watching it on the big screen. R2 was right with it being shown on Sci-Fi channel, but these were just rebroadcasts to help pump up the movie and get those folks who hadn't seen it and hadn't bought the movie set to get their feet wet. I highly recommend taking the time to soak this piece of sci-fi up. It's basically a Space Western, you wouldn't think it would work on screen for TV or Film, but the writers really knew how to differentiate characters and make you fall for each of them. I feel they know how to write humor without it seeming like forced one-liners or stupid quotes. Definite 2 Steins up from me, check it out! _______________ Be honorable, be friendly, be trustworthy.
