I play jazz. Everything and anything associated with it. <plug>Tune into my Jazz Show on JA Radio!</plug> Name an instrument associated with jazz (EXCEPT guitar) and there's a strong chance I've performed successfully on it before. I'm playing mostly acoustic bass right now (my 8th year at it), trying to get my 2nd and 3rd fingers toughened up like the main one. Giving bass lessons to junior-high kids is an excellent income supplement, too. :D

Oh and Eica, did you mean that someone should invent a doubleneck with one neck a guitar and one a bass? Sorry to spoil your invention but those have been around for a long time. At least Ibanez had one in stock 6-7 years back, and I'm sure if you dig around a vintage collection you'll find lots of them.

If you meant a doubleneck bass guitar, those have been around long too (just watch Spinal Tap and you'll know what I mean :) ).

I've played guitar for many years (10+) now, currently in two bands, one a sure main stream success some day, and the other a hip blues jam band. I also started giving guitar lessons last year, and they turned out to be a blast so I'm still doing it.

I don't have any idols when it comes to style (or imitation), but I do get major kicks out of old blues farts like Robert Johnson, Son House, Freddie King, Muddy Waters etc. Django Rheinhardt is also a personal favourite, though not in the blues section. From jazz guitarists my favourite pick is (Django and) Charlie Christian.

From later players people like Duane Allman (Allman Bros.), Jimmy Page (Led Zeppelin, in the studio, NOT live), Eric Clapton (Bluesbreaker and Cream years), Steve Howe (YES), Robert Fripp (King Crimson, early stuff only), Paco DeLucia (amazing flamenco guitarist), John McLaughlin (Mahavishnu Orchestra), B.B. King (the early stuff, shouldn't really be here but in the "old farts" category), Lowell George (Little Feat), David Gilmour (Pink Floyd's psychedelia years), and many more, including some Finnish names that you most probably won't recognise but of whom some could play each and everyone previously mentioned off this planet.

I own a Gibson SG Custom '72, Fender American Ash Telecaster '04, Fender standard Stratocast (USA) 1973, Gibson Les Paul Goldtop '69 (modded with Bigsby tailpeace), Ibanez AK85 jazz guitar, Ibanez Artist 1980 (a beauty). Acoustics include: Gibson Hummingbird, Dobro (Hound Dog), Ibanez AW1500, Landola 12-string from the 70s, and a beautiful Alvarez MD95.

I currently have two amplifiers, an acoustic/monitor Marshall AS50R (for solo gigs), and my ever trustworthy Peavey Classic 30 (just about the best all-tube amp out there, this one is outfitted with Mesa tubes and a brand new speaker element, just the hum will melt your heart).

I also have quite a lot of guitar effects, most of which are needless to list here, but some jewels include Ibanez Tubescreamer TS-808 (the original), Ibanez Tube King (tube-amplified overdrive), Ibanez acoustic delay (an old one, maybe from the 70s), Dunlop Crybaby classic wah, etc.

Needless to say, I've spent (and will spend) a LOT of money on guitars, but I consider it to be a collecting hobby, just as good as say collecting panties from French waitresses.

Guitars = my life.

Guitar and Harmonica....
Currently playing in 2 bands, and involved in 2 big musical productions, 1 with a band, some blowers, violin cello etc... and 22 guitar students... (age 8 till 13) named Changes Edition 2005, the other project is with a choir and we're gonna do the traditional american christmas songs like... Oh Come All Ye Faithfull and that kind off stuff... only we bring it a little different... with Roaring and Screaming Guitars instead of only a piano in the background , this one's called Rockin' Eve

EDIT: I play a Gibson Les Paul Special Cherry Faded, Epiphone Les Paul Gothic and a Dean Traditional Accoustic. Amp: Marshall VS65R (unfortunately :(, i'm looking for a new amp... marshall has a too high voltage rock sound to it... I'm looking for something more vintage)

Favorite Guitarist: No doubt there... Frank Zappa the man who discovered Steve Vai :D
Favorite Harmonicalist: That's a little harder... Sonny Terry or John Mayall

Everyone in my family played music except me. So when we all got together they'd jam out and I'd end up playing warcraft II. :P A few years ago I decided screw this and picked up a guitar. I still can't play well, but thats mainly by choice. I also play bass and am trying to learn the drums. I sing sometimes too, and those that hear me on TS know what a joy that is!

I have no guitar idol, but Matt Freeman from Rancid or possibly the Ox from the Who are my bass playing idols.

When I was in Austin I was in a band. I played one show and sucked it up royally. Dropped pics, forgot notes, all that fun stuff. But I had a great time otherwise. If any of you are around dallas and like to play ska music with other people come find me and I will play ska music with you.

I do not and never have played guitar, unless you count that semester back in 7th grade... "guitar class"...
I used to play the violin, actually. I played for five years, and in 8th grade I was the third-best violinist in the school, though my conductor always placed me 4th chair. Bah. (To note, my city has a very large music department, so I wasn't fourth of five or anything. I think there were about 20 each first and second violins in the orchestra, so fourth was actually really good. Though I was really third.)
My forte (no pun intended) was mainly sightreading. I'd come in, there'd be music on the stands for us to start learning, and I'd just start playing it like I've had it for weeks. I liked the incredulous stares that got every single time :)
Yet sadly, when I went to high school, two things kept me from continuing. First, it doesn't have an orchestra, just a band (even though the music director tried to start a small string group, people kept leaving until it was just me and another, and eventually I was forced to stop as well), and second, to get to school I take a car, train, and bus (in that order), so lugging a violin all the way to school every day would have been far too much hassle-- and risky.

Still, I borrow a violin when I can, play some of my old music (not nearly as well as I did before) and remember the days when I was good.

Edit: Why is "strings" left out of the poll, yet "Bass" has an option all to itself!?

Awesome got two official threads of things I do the most, Martial arts and Music. I've been playing guitar for 4 years now and what inspired me to learn to play was Bruce Springsteen's song Thunder Road. One line goes "Well I got this guitar and I learned how to make it talk". I just had to learn to play after that. I like many artists and bands but The Boss, (Springsteen), seals the deal above all else. I've seen him four times and I'm going to see him again at the St. Pete Times Forum on november 4th, got some floor seats!.

I play a Fender Telecaster sunburst with a maple neck, and a big peavey classic 30 amp, and a small fender 15R amp. My acoustics are a yamaha, and an Ibanez. I've been so fascinated with open string tunings lately, like open G-tuning with a capo on the second or third fret. You can summon up an orchestra. That's why I'm saving up for a Takamine 12 string, model EF381C, this one to be exact.

Other then all that I play some harmonica w/guitar sometimes, and a little piano. :)
