We have been making a df map but not sure how to spawn npc's by push of a button. We have got it working to start a npc spawn's but it only seem's to work the once? We are also trying to find out how to put models in our map such as the trees any help would be greatfully received.

Thank You:D

For models and other entities, you need to use its Angle property. That's what the buttons with numbers on them in the Ent Properties window (when you press N, bottom left corner) are for - they automatically set an angle for you based on the direction you click. Very handy!

A word to the wise: DO NOT rotate models or entities by hand. If you already have, delete them and put them in again.

If you mean the effect fire, click here.

The location of the fire effect should be assets1.pk3\effects\env\ and the filename should start with small_fire. Choose one that you like, as there are a couple of .efx files starting in that name. :)

ah, yes, about the models, you will find them under miscellanous(mouse-right-click) sth like:
misc -> model -> (browser: set to *.glm instead of *.spr)

For adding models in the editor, .md3 is the correct extension.

By the way, the accepted way to add models to a map is to add them as a misc_model, get them setup the way you want, put rough physics_clip around their basic shape, and convert the ent to a misc_model_static so it doesn't take up any BSP space. Google for misc_model if you need clarification. ;)

Select the NPC in Radiant and bring up it's entity window (press N), then in the text field for "Key", you need to type "count" (without the quote marks) and in the "Value" field, you need to type "-1" (also without the quote marks).

That would have been the next thing I said. Yes. >.>

If you're already doing what tarpman has said (using a trigger_multiple instead of a trigger_once) and it still isn't working, then you need to do the following:

Select the NPC in Radiant and bring up it's entity window (press N), then in the text field for "Key", you need to type "count" (without the quote marks) and in the "Value" field, you need to type "-1" (also without the quote marks).

Basically, the "count" key functions sort of like 'Lives' or 'Respawns' for the NPC and the number you put as the value is, of course, how many times you want to be able to spawn the NPC by pressing the button. -1 means that you can spawn it an infinate amount of times. :)

Try a misc_model entity.
